My great grandfather fought with the 38th division ww1 4th division, Lewis machine gunner, his brother died Aug. 31, 1916, when an artillery shell hit his nest he was with the 33rd Battalion 1st division , my great grandfather fought from the somme all the way to Passchendaele Ridge not sure if he continued fighting until He came home in 1918. and lived to the age 92 when he passed in 1989 was born 1896. They have a book out on him and his brother called The Fighting Freeman's of Elgin County in the war museum. He signed up to be with the 25th Battalion but was sent to 38th Battalion before being sent to war in 1916. His name is author freeman and was a Sargent his brothers name is Robert freeman.
