Hey! I was looking up WCU reviews becuase im thinking about enrolling. I have one question and I hope that you can answer. Ive read online that hospitals dont really like to hire graduates from WCU. Is this true?
@@vicentevelasquez9284 1000% NOT true. As long as the school you’re enrolled in is accredited hospitals will hire you. What gets you hired is how well you do in your interviews.
What accreditation do we need to look out for when searching for schools?
Is there any way to contact you?
i love the part that you mentioned to have fun 🎉🎉🎉
As someone who has my Pre reqs and GEs done I want to know how much less the tuition is. I know right now it says 153k but with these GEs and pre req what would the difference be
what's the difference between los angeles location and orange county
How long did you have to go to school since you've completed the bulk of the pre-nursing pre-reqs
I heard private schools typically don't fail people out their program like how public schools do. Is this true?
Can a dwi conviction prevent me from joining WCU nursing program?
Some will fail or quit school and still have to pay thise loans. Also most new nurses are already wanting to get out of the field after their first year working and struggling with burn out and mental health. Imagine having this massive loan and not being able to quit, and you got your loved ones to co-sign so if you deafault then they are at risk of being garnished or sued for their assets too. So many in this situation. What a nightmare. Nursing is not a "dream job" anyone should be paying more than six figures for. You are paying to suffer and be exploited it's not worth it.
If you are spanish speaker, go to puerto rico. Total cost $14 K for BSN. Universidad adventista de las antillas !!!
Cool lol it’s like a hack
Hopefully someone can help. Should I keep waiting around to get accepted into a ADN program at a CC or just apply at WCU ?
I think you should wait depending on how long you’re willing to wait because I don’t think the price is worth it when you can pay really nothing at a CC or have financial aid cover it without debt. ☺️ How has it been going these months? Did you get into a CC?
Hi Dez, just wondering just wanted to surprise my gf with a pair of stethoscopes! Doesn’t west coast supply the stethoscope ?
Hello. They do supply you with one but its a very cheap version. You can barely hear anything especially with the mannequins we use. I personally use a littmann stethoscope. It’s very durable and the most popular brand tbh.
@@dez.janelle4979 thank you so much ! I will definitely be getting her some new ones!
you attend which location, the one in texas? did you tour the school? is it comparative to other public private nursing schools? ive been to the dental clinic, its so slick and professional and well ran.
Hey Dez! I appreciate this video for clarifying up most of my concerns, i have one question, is it possible to have a part time job while in school or do you have to dedicate your entire time to west coast? Im concerned about meeting my living expenses such as rent, ETC! Thank you in advance for answering this question!
Hello ray sorry for such a late reply. Schools been pretty hectic lately. But working is doable at WCU a lot of people work full time jobs have kids etc. to each their own so my biggest advice is to ask yourself how committed you are if you do work because doing both is extremely draining. If possible I would not work for the first half or even quarter of your nursing core. 1. To get accustom to the work flow and see if you can really handle it. And 2. Because the first half I would say is very time consuming there’s a lot of days you need to obligate actually being in theory, clinical, skills lab, and sims. So those can take up 3-4 days of your week. But after the first half the you usually have one theory class and clinical and then your other class is asynchronous. So the rest is all time management really. It’s a long reply but hope this help :)
Can you talk about what classes you took at a CC?
So all prerequisites have to be done within 5 years not just the sciences like other nursing programs?
Mainly the sciences because they do expire for sure in 5 years! The others may have longer time to expire
I thought it was just the sciences !
Hi Dez, I am interested in attending west coast university. Is it accredited? like any other state college? like if I chose to go for my masters after Bachelors?
Yes WCU IS accredited EX: california board exam
Hi Dez! I was wondering what the TEAS exam consist of ? What score do you need to get to be accepted ? And is the TEAS exam difficult ? I currently just finished all my pre-reqs at a CC , I just finished advanced physiology here I’m just pretty worried on failing out of WCU
Hey! So I can’t remember exactly what was on the TEAS cause it’s been so long but basically it’s a placement exam that consist of Math, English (grammar, reading, writing), science (if I’m not mistaken it’s mainly biology and some basic anatomy/physiology) and I think you need like a 69% to pass? I could be wrong. But look on the WCU website and it should say. The TEAS can be difficult if you’ve been out of school for awhile and haven’t been in a big comprehensive test setting. You can always buy a “TEAS for dummies” book and study from there. Now failing out of WCU you have 2 chances and honestly as long as you put in the work and use all your resources such the many different forms of tutoring WCU offers and you’ll be fine! Goodluck to you!
@@dez.janelle4979 thank you so much for replying to me and the recommendations and information! This made me feel more confident! Good luck and blessing on your nursing path 😊
It's nursing for me
Appreciate the insight. I notice there is a career service specialist did they help you during the schooling? If not how cud they have helped.
I am currently looking for a private loan. Is it normal that the interest is more than the money you’ll borrow? I already took my prereqs in CC. They won’t tell me if they’ll credit the courses I took, not until I get my loan.
Hello. I’m not an expert at loan but from my understanding your interest is higher than the loan itself because your APR or interest rate is high. Meaning it would be best to get a co-signer who has better credit to be approved for a lower interest rate. An interest rate below 7% is considered good. As for your courses they should give you a proposed schedule with the classes you took to see how many units you’ll be taking at WCU it is unfair for them to tell you to get a loan first because you need to know the exact amount of classes you’ll be taking to even apply for a loan amount. You can’t apply for a loan amount with a guess amount. Once your schedule is set your financial advisors will give you the loan amount to ask for. Hope this helps!
Can math 108 college mathematics be waived upon taking the entrance exam or is it a mandatory class you need to take before transferring to WCU
If you’ve taken any GE courses outside of west coast it will transfer as long as the course matches their requirement and is within 5years
@@dez.janelle4979 al the prerequisites have to be within 5 yrs or just the sciences?
Do they offer guaranteed admission to the nursing program?
I would like to say yes as long as you pass the requirements like not failing previous nursing courses, passing the hesi or the teas, etc. you can always call the school and see what they require.
Sorry for the delay everyone! This past term has been hectic but I will post a new video soon!! Thank you all for watching and subscribing!! 🤍🤍🤍
I have a question, I'm starting west coast June 2022 term and was wondering how many times you had clinical in person on Sundays? I know it changes for everyone but I'd love to hear from you (:
Honestly, I’ve never had a Sunday clinical. Knock on wood I don’t get one because weekdays work best for me. There are a lot of options for you to get placed in a weekday clinical. And if you do get a weekend. Some students are willing to switch because it works better for them. I’ve only had one lecture class on a weekend which wasn’t too bad. Hope this helps :)
I’m planning on starting in June as well! But I’m from NorCal!
I heard they lost hospital contracts Only nursing homes
thats true here in LA County@@TheMaleNurse777
Thanks for the information. Do you recommend buying the books from WestCoast ($7450) or buying them from somewhere else?
Honestly I have no bought any books.. they provide you with the ATI books you need. But every other book there are PDF files previous students are willing to share. And if you’re old school like me who needs hard copies you can either find cheap used ones or other nursing students who sell books. Even from other nursing programs not just WCU. save your money if you can.
As I soon as I saw the “Los Angeles,” I understood 😂. I’m in California too, it’s extremely impacted and competitive for RN. I completed RN prerequisites at a CC with 3.9 GPA and 89.3 TEAS score and still didn’t get accepted into any RN programs, I applied to 5. Some schools give more points for experience, which I didn’t have unfortunately. Now I’m a CNA and in LVN school, then I’ll try again for RN. It’s frustrating ngl
Oh man just reading this makes me frustrated for you!! I had a decent GPA as well and no CC was accepting me so I had to settle for WCU and just get this journey going. Lol Goodluck on your journey tho!
Omg! I’m in the same situation. I have a 4.0, 82 on teas, and work in a hospital as a CNA, but got rejected at 4 Los Angeles ADN programs, and got 2 alternate. Sadly most schools are lottery here in LA. I’m going to WCU in Jan
@@jessicaftw9564 why not try going for lvn then do the bridge program at cc since you already have all the necessary requirements you’ll have a higher chance of getting in that way & you’ll have experience on the floor when it’s time to apply for an rn job :)
@@k.g7856 update: I got in as a alternate!! I start the adn program in 2 weeks. Thank goodness 😭

You are 100!!!! Thank u! Love this video such good information! And a real life explanation of what a transition, is especially in this covid pandemic
Hey dez.janelle ! Great video but I am starting at West Coast in April. In the comments people were talking about online classes. In regards to the classes how are the tests? Are the online classes well taught ? At my community college, because of the sudden change some professors didn’t transition well and made some tests extremely difficult. Do you feel like that’s the case at west coast? Thank you hope you keep making videos!

Thanks for the video! My son will finish his AA from MSJC in May of 22. They have a contract with West Coast and his classes will be transferrable. When should he start the Application process at West Coast so he can start the Fall after he graduates from MSJC?
There’s fall 1 which usually starts in august and ends at the end of October and fall 2 which usually starts in November. I would suggest starting the application process about 1-2 terms before. Each terms are 10 weeks so if he knows the start date count 10-20 weeks before. The earlier the better to give you more time to get all your documents done. You can always tell them the exact start date you want even if you apply 2-3 terms early. Hope this helps! And Goodluck to your son! :)
@@dez.janelle4979 Thanks again!
Hi! I just started this November and already about to finish the term but I start nursing core in April I believe and I wanted to know how long are clinical hours? I’ve been debating about attending an out of state college for much cheaper but everything is online and from what I hear their clinicals are only about 2 weeks total. I feel like that’s not enough to prepare someone so I’m really curious about Wcu’s clinical hours.
Usually their hours are 7-7 or 7-5 from what I’ve seen. I start core next term and when we were choosing our top 5 preferences they had those hours but first term of core is only lab and skills idk if those hours change once your actually go clinical sites
Soo clinicals are mostly 12 hrs shift 1day a week. The only 8 hour clinical is your mental health rotation. Your first term has a 11hr clinicals shift but your first 5 weeks is 11hr skills lab instead of being on a clinical site. The shifts usually are 0630-1830 or some could be graveyard. Hope that helps :)
Hey Janelle! Thank you so much for this informative video! Im actually going to start West coast in June 2022! I just had a quick question/need help. Today I had my FAFSA appointment with the advisor and I pretty much need to get a loan to pay 30K for the year. I don't know what loan to get and wanted to ask if you had any recommendations?? I need help and fast since like you mentioned, they really don't give you enough time lol.
Hey! Thank you for watching! For loans I personally like acent. It’s one of the choices they give you. It really doesn’t matter which loan you go for. As long as you and your co signer have good credit. But I would recommend doing a fixed loan which means your interest rate doesn’t change throughout the years you’re in school and paying for the loan. Also deferred which means you don’t have to make payments until you’re down with school. So it’s a little less stress when you’re in the program. I hope that helps!
@@dez.janelle4979 Thank you soooooo much! This was definitely helpful! I appreciate it! That’s honestly what I was scared of, finding a loan provider that wouldn’t let me pause payment until after I graduated. I definitely will be applying today, thank you for the help 😊 🙏🏼

Hi Danica , I’m actually looking to go too WCU too I’m just really nervous, if you don’t mind me asking how is it so far ?
@@briannamonzon3920 Hi Brianna! I'm currently in my 2nd term and so far all of my professors have been amazing! As of right now my experience with the school has been very positive!
@@danicaxmakeupp Thats so amazing! If you don’t mind me asking which location do you attend ? What classes are you currently taking and do the classes feel overwhelming? I’m sorry for all the questions I’m just a bit nervous and I’m trying to gather all the info I can (:
@@briannamonzon3920 No worries, I'm happy to help! I attend the LA location and so far all of my classes have been online via zoom. I was able to transfer most of my pre-reqs, but I did decide to take Anatomy and Physiology at WCU and I'm so glad I did because those two classes are pretty much the foundation in nursing. I also want to mention that it is required to take 4 classes in WCU before you start nursing core (First year seminar, critical reasoning, pathophysiology, and GE Capstone). I'm taking Physiology and Critical Reasoning right now and working 24 hours a week and don't feel overwhelmed at all. But I also did need to develop good time management skills. I can't say how overwhelming nursing core is, but I do know some people who are in nursing core and still manage to work full-time.
Is there an exact number of dollars you saved from taking gen Ed at community? Much love!
About 50,000
That’s how much I saved & all my my prerequisites weren’t even completed
It’s hard to give an exact number because they change the tuition so often. But an estimate I would say like 50-70k depending how much GE and pre reqs you got done. Hope that helps! :)
@@taryndupuy9714 yass girl I’m glad you saved something!! These loans are no joke 😭
@@taryndupuy9714 hi! How many prerequisites did you complete?
How much does it actually cost at WCU after u have done your pre reqs in Community College? Like estimate? And how long would it be?
Umm an estimate without your interest I want to say about 70-80k. It’s hard to give an exact number because they don’t bill you all at once it’s by semester (2 terms)
And it’s about 5 semesters for nursing core
@@dez.janelle4979 it’s now 130,000
I paid $145k fall ‘23
@@TheMaleNurse777is this the cost including prerequisite courses or with them finished? I’m thinking of applying but not sure since I will have to factor in the costs for moving/rent
Love coming across new videos about West Coast! I know that no one is happy gaining debt but overall would you say that you’re happy with your decision to attend WCU or do you regret it?
Ive been trying to get into a nursing program for so long and started to feel defeated when I couldn’t get in a program. Which is what led me to WCU so even tho it sucks having debt I would say I am happy with my decision and I’m glad I didn’t give up on nursing. :)

Thanks so much for the video! I’m actually starting west coast in April 2022. Just wondering… for your first term, were your classes in person or online?
Yes for the first few terms I’m online. Even with nursing core I’m online for lecture. I think most WCU are only allowing students to go on campus for skills and sims lab. Or some theory classes but with limited capacity. Goodluck to you!! I’m here if you need any help or advice <3
Hi Karlynne, what campus are you going to start? Did you take test to enter the program already?
@@raquelmartinez2787 Hey Raquel I’m going to be at the Anaheim campus. Are you going there too? And for the entrance exam are you referring to the TEAS exam? That was the only exam I took so far.

How long is the nursing program at West Coast University? How are the classes for you?
Hi tiana! Depending on how many classes you’ve got done before your core classes it can take anywhere between 2-3.5 years. But the nursing core itself is a little under 2 years. There’s so much to say about nursing classes lol I can make a video talking about what nursing classes are like at WCU if you’re interested.
@@dez.janelle4979 Yes, if you can please do! I'm done with all my core classes, I'm just looking into programs right now and possibly considering West Coast. However, I want to make sure the program itself is good. Also, can you give an estimate of how much the nursing classes may be in total for 2 years? Please, and thank you so much!!
@@taniaflores430 an estimate I want to say about 70-80k don’t quote me because they raise pricing pretty often so it all depends on when you’d like to start. But I can try and get a video out for you soon. Leave a comment on some of the topics you’d want me to cover. If you specific questions regarding the program and I’ll do my best to answer them :)
I’d double check bc they just raised the prices for new coming students starting April. They said it was like a 10% raise but I’d say yes, it’s about 80k going in with all prereqs done. But with loan interest the amount due I’ll owe will probably be closer to 100k 😭
