Night Nurse - Nik Cockshott

This is about the in depth philosophical concerns thrown up by watching Terry Nation's Survivors for the first time (and not at all about having a sordid one night stand with a nurse). I was so terribly confused in those days...

One of my many attempts to disguise writing a song about my total failure in the amorous department with members of the sex I prefer as a song about BBC science fiction. The (blatant) reasons for the failures were in there all the time of course...

From the album Typical, 1995 by Flitwick based band The Spores. Yes it's sort of about The Jagaroth but not just that.

You know when New Order went on about only having written Blue Monday to try out new electronic equipment? Well I wrote this to test the capabilities of a basically toy-level sampling keyboard I'd just got from Cash Converters in the mid 90s. Obviously I managed to wrangle a Doctor Who connection into the title but otherwise...? Definitely more meaningless than Blue Monday.

A song I wrote about being made to feel inadequate at school in 1982 by someone who then went on to work at a small greengrocers in Bedford bus station (yes I know it sounds like Pulp, I wrote it on the way to work in 1995). Like fresh chicory, I'm not bitter...

This was the first band i ever saw live; I was 15 (1993) the venue was Slim’s in San Francisco, with Girls vs. Boys and Brainiac as support. I was completely transfixed and blown away. I will never forget it- Anyone know where to find any vids/pics for that show? I would be eternally grateful!!! I ❤️ JL
love these guys
I've only just found this. I was there. Great gig.

How come no one knows about this band? Where did they go?
They were one of Kurt Cobain's favorite bands and arguably one of the most powerful bands that I've ever seen. Cant fucking wait to see them in Chicago in a few weeks
Saw them at the Reading Festival one month before this gig…but nothing as intense and crazy as this…festival gigs are just not the same.
I was at that Paradise Club gig, and it was as great as it looks.
This interview was recorded in dobley audio
Knicker wetting? Oh yes.
Intense, amazing show. The crowd is right at the edge of chaos I wonder if Duane and David Wm are ever like "Hey Yow, keep your loogies off my part of the stage"?
is that Jeff Buckley in the music video with Blixa?
First time I've seen it performed with the ballet. Cool!
I'm collecting the magazine nowadays.
just discovered this band within the past year on fire - great album..
😂😂😂😂😂
Relatable.
Cockshott?
Best bar band ever
Reptilian eyes 😀
Went onto shellac which was the business. Man had the legs and produced so much good shite. Rip Steve. You were the man for sure in a pretty stable rock world.....
Great band with catchy grooves but the singer ruins it. Iggy Pop screams too but at least there is some melodies.
You are deaf as a bat
That's some punk rock spinal tap, the singer pulled with the crowd surfing thing around the 3rd song.
this kind of energy will never happen again. bands seem to be too concerned with their video projections, their in-ear monitors, their click tracks, 18 channels of backing tracks of studio stems, etc to even put on a show like this
Not in our lifetime it won’t. Things will need to cycle out and that’s not going to happen soon. You are so right …
Robin hasn't aged much
It was always a better show when yow wasn't totally shitfaced drunk before hand
This is comedic gold. I remember watching this at the time.
the cantancarous bustards didnt play the Mardi Gras in nottingham, which was also Paul Smiths and my hometown...the band went home instead and split up ....i had a bloomin ticket lined up, sorry to hear of Steves passing....
The Iggy Pop of our generation...awesome band ...❤
Was this The Garage in downtown Columbus, Ohio?
No, Highbury & Islington in London, England.
RIP Graeme.
53:27 David Yow's body double
the intelligence of Rob Wright is above of the average, that's why NMN made music much above the average.
I used to squat in one of those towers in the late 80's. brought my motorcycle up in the lift. Happy days!
Twenty years later and we are building more infernal tower blocks in urban areas like London! In 2024, they call them luxury apartments!
They have got to call them luxury where part of the accommodation only is 'affordable' the rest on the free market for renting or sale. Planning permission would rarely be given otherwise.
I'm pretty certain i was at this gig , great fun
I knew Karin. She was smarter and cooler than me, by some considerable margin.
👁El ojo
is this the Garage in London?
Yes.
freaking setlist
Why can't you share the Arkive video on Facebook? Apparently, it's against Facebook Community Standards. Why TF is that?
hmmmm. pretty much think Smith picked them because she's just that fetching.
🙌
RIP Jimmy
I was at this gig at the Hammersmith Clarendon (long gone, due to Tube station expansion). I think I saw Big Black there again another time, and a few other Blast First bands on other occassions, and one or two or three other things. Somewhere in there, probably before this gig, I met Paul Smith briefly.
I was at the Clarendon gig. Head of David & AC Temple supported 👍
@@fromthecentreButtholes and Meat Puppets both played the Clarendon within a few months in 87. The year before Big Black played at ULU. The Surfers played the Ambulance Station on Old Kent Road amongst other places. The Meat Puppets had never been over before.
Love love love
Even plainclothes Alison looks like a Victorian portrait come to life.
Who is that guy? His GF must have eaten some Slim Jims with the Gold Raping still on it.
The best Scottish band since Josef K
Overrated band.
