he's locked himself into the communication room, turned scientists and xen on his tail, pistol in hand as the guard he was with finally slumps dead against the wall. try as he might he can't communicate anywhere outside the compound, too much damage and interference. frantically he tries as many frequencies as possible both in and out of the facility with no response, either due to all the destruction and chaos or there simply being too few people left to properly respond. the little music player on the desk quietly ends its current song and My Way the instrumental comes on. the scientist listens to it for a bit before making up his mind. the banging outside the door is getting louder, an explosion in the distance no longer scares him. he stops it and rewinds the CD. turning it up to max, he turns on the speakers to the facility to play his last song. looking back at his dead guard to say goodbye, a small tear rolling down his face, clears his throat. he doesn't know if anyone is even left to hear it, or if anyone can hear it at all, but he's finishing this on a high note. the music begins and he starts singing. as he plays, his mind relaxes. nothing happening outside seems to matter anymore. as the banging reaches the door, he just sings louder, the music and his voice drowning out everything else, nothing left to fear. even as the explosions draw closer, gunshots echoing in the halls, the wails of friends long gone and beings from another dimension don't phase him. near the end his voice starts to give out but he refuses to stop, pushing through it to finish his last hurrah. and as the song finally comes to an end, the noises outside of the door seemingly vanishing for but a moment, he puts the barrel to his head. looking at his dead friend slumped against the wall, for one last time, pulled the trigger, going out his way.
