An intro... And How I Finally Made a Channel
Просмотров 2132 года назад
Hi I'm Jacob! Even though this is a simple video, this is a huge milestone for me. I hope you can join me along this journey!
Wow!! I remember PokemonGirlDawn being VERY active in the chat, I also remember your hotel and messaging you asking for a house. There are a lot of crazy coincidences in our experiences with ChallenegeYou. I thought I remembered your username, and the moment you showed the houses level it clicked.
ChallengeYou was my introduction to the online world as a kid, I was searching for websites where you could make games. My username was Jackener, I made such garbage but I had a blast.
i wanted that red elite mask so bad, i still think about it till this day.
omg this game was such a big impact on my life and no one knows of this website...
Can't believe they sent a musician into Gerald's Moderation.
I was TOILET! So neat to see my old username in a video I came to for a little nostalgia. I’ll never forget the tiny little corner on the internet that we got to carve out on challenge you. Truly a vibe. And I certainly won’t be throwing any stones living in a glass house lol
Such a fair review. And it’s nice not to be slammed with some proprietary cynicism, per the previous three reviews I read/watched.
Thank you so much! I've been quite a fan of Collier's previous works, and I definitely wanted to keep it honest here! I appreciate the watch!
Just released my first album. It’s a Lo-fi Americana album with just a touch of some pop and jazz sprinkled in. Feel free to check it out. Perhaps an “amateur album”review could be an interesting addition to your channel. 😉👍 ruclips.net/video/3hqyi6m1_7M/видео.htmlsi=5Uy-Y0eHGnpkC88D
❤
I just love how you can feel that you’re getting closer and closer back to home the further down you listen through this album
I’m gonna say it… Moon River, In The Bleak Mid-Winter, and You And I are all WORLDS better than Bridge over Troubled Water. This album was a huge disappointment. Dude needs to find that energy he had with ‘in my room’ and ‘vol 2’ again because almost everything he’s done since has been “target ad music” smh
Little Blue is so beautiful
Yay!
my favourites: OVER YOU obviously, Wherever I Go, A Rock Somewhere, Witness Me <3
No summer rain slander will be tolerated here
I need to give this one a few more listens for sure, I'm sure in time it will grow on me!
Will or will not 😂
Fix your hair before going on camera
Woah woah woah, Jd-Tg1ox, pump the brakes for a sec! Are you feeling a little grumpy today? That's okay, sometimes everyone does! But remember, our friends love it when we use gentle words and share our toys. Sharing makes everyone happy, just like sunshine on our faces! Let's try using nice words like "happy" and "thank you" instead. Maybe you can even give your friend a big hug? That will surely make them smile from ear to ear!
lmfao
Fix your attitude.
A great review. Thanks for making this video. I enjoyed hearing your thoughts and you were very well spoken.
A Rock Somewhere is my current favorite, as impressive as Bridge Over Troubled Waters is. The only song I was meh about was Mir Corazon and I'm a little conflicted about the Box of Stars 1 & 2 which to be fair, I haven't given the same attention. I wasn't really aware of JC much until I went to see him with a full orchestra and a choir at the Kennedy Center in September. One of the highlights of the evening was the world premiere of World O World. The audience choir was another. I wouldn't have thought it possible. He sang a Bach duet with the NSO orchestra and Suzie Collier on violin and the song DJesse and In the Early Morning were also nice. It was ALL great and easily the best concert I've ever been to. Also largely agree with your review.
That sounds like an amazing time! I would absolutely love to see Jacob live at some point, It always seems like such a lively experience!
Yes! I was at the Kennedy center, too!, on the first night. World Oh World was overwhelmingly gorgeous! I also loved the Bach with his mom and I was humming Wild Mountain Thyme for days.❤
A Rock Somewhere is an absolute gem.
Excellent review. I agree with a lot of what you said, especially in regards to your opinions on the songs.
I appreciate that, thanks for watching!
I used to draw Batman and Mario comics on the floor of my mother's office. Still have them. Might have to share them. Solid video, bro!
That's awesome you still have them! Would love to see a similar video from you if you end up sharing them. Appreciate it bro!
Hey QueQueQueQue! And everyone else that left a comment. I am (was) "ChallengeYou" I remember many of you. My 16 year old daughter just found this and the emulator. I haven't gotten it to work yet, but it looks incredible. Thanks for making this video. It meant a lot to me. ChallengeYou and its members were a really important part of my life too.
FOR FREE!?
The feeling this game gives off is very similar to the vibe of Super Mario 64!
I never realized I could go back and play my old levels! My name is Necro_Dragon, yours sounded familiar. Just went back and played all of my published levels (although I have way too many that were never published), super cool. Thanks for bringing me back down memory lane - what 10+ years ago? jeeesh!
I absolutely loved this game as a kid. I played it just as much as Battle for Bikini Bottom and the Movie Game. It feels differently than any other game almost like you are in a dream like state. It has a very eerie and lonely feeling which at times I kinda liked. My favorite part was delivering orders for Mr. Krabs because I took it so seriously and did my best to make sure everyone got their orders on time 😂😂😂😂😂 such nostalgia
That's what I'm saying with the delivery mission!! Haha, appreciate the watch and the comment my friend!!
i remember this! man, the good old days!
response video coming
Great video! Found the game the exact same way you did! Haha!
Awesome video! My thoughts exactly on To Pimp a Butterfly!
Media...sphere? Um, I see no orbs?
allow me to refer you to The Beholder by an artist I know called um .. Nameless .. something
How can I google nothing? Pfft, okay, "Hey google,........"
this list freaking sucks where is AJR ..
well 2023 isn't over yet so...
Oh man, this was my childhood. I knew Kevin. Guy was funny, friendly and professional. He was an overall cool dude, and loved everyones maps I miss challengeyou now as a 27 year old. I knew the maps of Haakson, my maps i made (Builderss was my name). This was the minecraft before Minecraft. Heck, i think i remember you.
That's amazing! Well hey, I'm glad you found this video! So cool to see how many others remember this game. If you made any levels I'll have to check them out!
Thanks for this video! I just went back and had a huge wave of nostalgia with my old levels.
I'm in a prison, call it a Criminal Space, yo.
Promo*SM 😭
OMG THIS IS SO AWESOME I LOVE LIMINAL SPACES!!!!!!!
Are there any tier lists out there you want to hear my thoughts on? Let me know!! P.S. I would recommend watching this video in full screen to get the full scope of the images!
Can you do a tier list of silly gooses? Pretty please with a strawberry on top?
@@InsaneMan456 That sounds silly. So why not!!
I really enjoy the color pallette used in this, it's weirdly vibrant, but also adds to how foreboding and surreal everything feels
I encourage you to look deeper into the story behind this game's development. It's actually a story of very passionate developers who were in the wrong place at the wrong time when crap hit the fan. A very interesting tale that, if I'm remembering correctly, led to the eventual shutdown of the dev team. Great video btw.
That's right I do remember reading about that! Kind of a sad ordeal all things considered... I thought about making a mention of that somewhere in this video but had a different focus in mind. Appreciate the comment!!
I agree with you, this game does NOT capture the essence of SpongeBob at all. 😅
im glad im not the only person in the world who thought this game looked.. strange.. i never owned this game but i have memories going to this video rental store near us (usually got games for the wii there, but i really wanted battle for bikini bottom at the time) and going there to try and find a copy, unfortunately this was the only game they had and i dont quite remember if i rented or not, but i do remember researching it and feeling a sense of "uncanniness" and it was sort of strange.
Another odd thing about this game is the lighting. 4:22 Look at how *dark* the ground and sky are in this shot, and how bright the buildings and the mountains are. Combined with how everything is enclosed by tall cliffs, it makes you feel really... TRAPPED, for lack of a better word. Like sunlight and warmth are within sight, but you're constantly being overshadowed by the walls that hold you.
Really good way to describe it - looking back on this there are lots of moments lighting could have made a huge difference! Thanks for the insights!
I love Spanglebop
We luv sponge 💛

It was SO long ago that I might be fabricating this memory, but the name Quequequeque does feel familiar. Either I chatted to you on the site, played some of your levels, or just saw your name around on the billboards of other people's levels. I can't remember what name I'd have chosen, probably KrazyK095, but maybe KayBlue10. I miss that site! Edit: Woah okay I left that comment before getting to that YACY part. Definitely checking that out! Thanks for letting us know about it
first person ive seen to actually know about this game
Wow its sad :(
Jesus, what a throwback. I'm still friends with some people I met there in like 2007. I thought nobody remembered that site haha, makes me want to make a video about it. Need to check out that revival project. Thanks!
Underrated af this is a really important topic and noones talking about it! Plus I just rlly relate to the way you explain it
Thank you so much! I'm glad I can have a space to talk about these topics, and it's even more reassuring when people like you understand it!
i get frequent reminders of how privileged I was when I hear something like, "played games on the library internet" when I always had perfect access to a functioning PC and wifi at home. Props to anyone who had to push harder to do these activities. anyways, ChallengeYou was a huuuge part of my childhood/teenage years, absolutely underrated & popular game. I don't know why but it feels like it was basically the precursor to Minecraft. there has to be a lost Notch interview where he said something about ChallengeYou. I remember playing Minecraft when it first came out and I felt VERY cool putting it on a flash drive and playing it on the school computers >:) didn't really show anyone or show off, but I played it. I LOVE that you showed your first maps, it's hella interesting. This video gave me ridiculous amounts of nostalgia, so thank you! It's also a reminder that NONE of us had a unique experience lmao, like I keep seeing TikToks where people show their experiences; your ideas as a kid, and how you represented them in the games you made, are pretty much IDENTICAL to mine. I would've thought I was sooo unique with that reasoning as to why your house was empty; "mom said we're moving, so the house is empty! i'll just go to my room" is just too relatable. Chrome stopped me from downloading the itch.io link cuz chrome flagged it as risky, so I haven't downloaded it, but I realllly want to see my old maps. I'll dowload it if it's safe, just too tired to look it up or download it on a whim right now.
Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to leave this comment! It really means a lot! That's one of the things I love about bringing these seemingly unique and unheard of games to the surface. Bringing people together who have that shared unique experience is really something special and I'm glad I can help in that. There's a discord server for the ChallengeYou revival that you should be able to find on the reddit page for ChallengeYou. You can ask questions about the file there. I'm just hoping to spread the word for those who have similar memories as you and I :)
