Good eye -- or rather, good ear :) This is the first video I've published with the new microphone setup I came up with in the late summer. So the sound is very different from all my previous videos up until now (except one, which I published 4 months ago). There is much less wind noise and more clarity, as well as a pretty distinct stereo perspective. This is the setup I landed on after testing a few different setups. The microphone is a Sony ECM-LV1 attached to my custom chesty just below the camera and covered by a fairly solid deadcat. I use the GoPro mic adapter to connect it to the GoPro.

With a 1.33x lens, which is what I used here, this is the correct look and aspect ratio after desqueezing :)

@@snokefilmmedia I was asking cuz I use an anamorphic adaptor from slr magic it's called the anamorphot 1.33X and when i desqueez it it looks very different from what you get here. But I never used anamorphic in a Gopro so mabe it's this the look. Was expecting something more wide after desqueezing it. it looks like normal 16:9. Thanks for the info.

1.33x lens on a 4:3 or 16:9 sensor will look dramatically different from 1.33x lens on a 8:7 sensor, which is the case here.

This anamorphic lens gives very interesting results for sure. It gives a much more true-to-life impression of steepness in the terrain. But when you put it on, there is a huuge vignette that you need to crop out. You get rid of most of it "automatically by running the footage through Gyroflow. But since the raw footage is only 5.3k, you are left with a grainy looking image. It would be a lot better if the GoPro could film in 8K so you could have plenty of resolution left for noise reduction etc. after stabilizing/cropping. I use a custom chest mount that I made myself to make the camera properly stable. Any chesty you can buy is literally garbage in any but the best conditions. You need a strong and stiff chesty that you can strap down with a backpack to get really good and stable footage. I would liked to have used a chin mount, but my neck can't take the load after a decade of overlanding on motorcycle and wearing my neck down really bad :/ If you're going to upgrade, a used GP11 with new batteries can be a good choice. It has the same sensor as GP13, and with GoPro Labs firmware you can get fantastic results that is unmatched by any of GoPro's competitors :)

@snokefilmmedia But I see low light performance isn't that good on Gopro. But issue with the Chinese brands is potential security risks. So lots of people don't like that. Hero 7 isn't great in the dark even with Exposure Sixpack mk9 light. I saw a newer go pro i think it was 10, similar or same light and as bad results. But don't think I've seen 11 and newer but seen those compared to competition in various dark scenerio and they beat Gopro 13. Also would be nice if Gopro added different sounding peeps so one knows if camera is turning on or off.

Yes of course, I'm using EXPX=90 and max ISO is set to 1600. In post-production in Davinci (just before rendering) I set the project resolution to 5312x2988. This gives the noise reduction algorithms better data to work with. I use both spatial and temporal noise reduction. It takes much longer to render though, even on my watercooled 5950X+6900XTX rig 😅

Unfortunately no, the Max only supports a very small subset of GoPro labs functionality. You can't use NR01, EXPX or GCMP, for example.

@@snokefilmmedia Yep. only EXPT and BITR was the only two option that is useful for GoproMax, for now. Hopefully they do something to make it available for Max, since it was capable of shooting on Hero mode.

This summer was fantastic in middle and northern Norway, but southern Norway had a lot of rain :) The MTB season lasted all the way from March up until just a few days ago. Lots of snow fell here in the last few days, but we should have workable conditions for snow riding in a week or so.

Agreed, unfortunately I only have a single GoPro 11 at the moment. With regards to field of view I believe that the FOV using this lens is comparable to a standard GoPro lens. A max lens should be wider. The benefit of this anamorphic lens is not really a wider FOV, but improved terrain perception due to less distortion. The downside to using this anamorphic lens is that you have to crop out large amounts of the frame due to the extreme vignette from the lens, even after stabilization. So you end up with the somewhat "rough" look you see in this video, where ISO noise, microvibrations etc. become more visible. When the GoPro 13 anamorphic lens arrives I will consider upgrading, depending on what the independent reviews say :)

The crop is actually done by the camera profile I use in GyroFlow (it's an included one, called "GoPro HERO11 Black 6k 3:2 Wide + Neewer Anamorphic 1.33x 5.3k 8:7 10-bit NO-EIS 7065x4648 23.98 fps"). Exactly how much it crops is difficult to tell, but here's a screenshot of the un-cropped/unstabilized footage: i.imgur.com/bom2wuC.png

That's my impression as well, you get a stronger sense of the steepness :)

The built-in stabilization appears to have som smart logic built-in to "point" the field of view in the direction that the camera is moving/turning. GyroFlow does not do that, but maybe there's a setting for it. I consider GoPro's built in stabilization to be supreme -- but there is quite a substantial power saving by turning it off :)

I bought the 12 with 2 batteries and never run out yet but I don't record constantly. Improvement in 11 and 12 in terms of battery consumption has been significant.

The GP13 anamorphic lens will give you less distortion for sure, but it looks quite heavy from the photos I've seen. Also I'm curious which video modes it will actually support. I hope there will be a away to record stabilized, unsqueezed footage, preferably in 5.3k and 8:7 (even with visible vignetting). Will just have to wait and see :)
