A collection of clips I put together while under stay-at-home orders here in Nevada. The California Zephyr is suspended west of Denver for the time being... there is no passenger rail service in Reno at this time. The last clip I was able to get of the CZ before the order was issued is at 02:16- it is also my favorite in the video.

At approximately 10am on the morning of February 20th 2020 Amtrak’s California Zephyr #5 struck a cement truck 20 miles east of Reno, NV. Managed to catch UP4014 twice while it was pulling the RailGiants Passenger Excursion through Southern California. First as it was arriving in Barstow and then while passing through Victorville on its way to Los Angeles.

Assorted video and photos from my March 2019 trip aboard the CZ. The trip was planned to celebrate both my 30th birthday and the 150th anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad. Due to extreme weather conditions in Nebraska and Iowa at the time the CZ was not able to run east of Lincoln. Mixed in are clips of the CZ in western Nevada during 2019.
The new Siemens charger windows are way too low down for the engineer. In the p42s, the front windows were much higher up to avoid injury in the cab.
The SC-44s shouldn't have been leading in the first place. They aren't meant for long distance passenger routes...

They should at least add track barrier cate and track switch can be similar to uk cuz uk the track crossing gate thing close before train so train have time to stop in case

We had the pleasure of traveling from Chicago to Reno and back on the Zephyr. WE quite enjoyed the trip, and I'm happy to see some great views of what it looked like when seen from outside.

can that up locomotive control those amtrak locomotives ? and can it run at passenger train speeds ?
Yes it can! PTC is what keeps those locos from going much faster than 70 mph on a usual basis, but if it is reset for non-revenue, the governor is turned to safety limits only and thereby allows that Loco to hit its top speed when the engineer wants it to. As far as being able to attach to and control the amtrak locos, the FRA requires that all locomotives have identical coupling, power and air lines for emergency purposes like this.
