    Thank you for showing us behind the scenes. It was amazing. I do understand that chasing grades should not be the sole purpose of climbing, atleast its not for me. However I am curious and wanted to know if this is the only blue tape thats V3/ are all the blue tapes V3ish. What would be an ideal range for the blue tapes at Up the Bloc from your perspective.

    • @jacqweeeee
      @jacqweeeee 22 дня назад

      Yayyy! Thanks for watching. Each tape grade contains a range of grades. I'd say blues range from V3 to V4. We tend not to talk in V-grades while setting (but I think in V-grades, to be honest).

    I still cant understand why so many gyms have adopted arbitrary tape circuits when we all know that behind the scenes the setters have a grade or at least grade range in mind when setting a boulder. Tape circuits with grade ranges assigned (like GRR) make a lot more sense to me, what do you think?

    • @jacqweeeee
      @jacqweeeee Месяц назад

      I think the idea is that circuit ranges allow more room for interpretation and subjectivity as opposed to the V-grades. Gyms also feel like it takes ego out of climbing and climbers can try more climbs without being as influenced by the grade. Circuits have been around for a long time, way before climbing gyms existed (1947), so it's not like it is a new made-up way of grading climbs. Most gyms have V-grade ranges in each of their tape circuits, but most don't necessarily advertise it to the members. I wish there was a more objective way to measure difficulty in climbing because even V-grades don't make a whole lot of sense. Isn't it all kind of arbitrary in the end? I think the most important thing is that the grades are consistent in the gym and there is a logical progression in difficulty within the gym's chosen grading scale.

    • @kram14490
      @kram14490 29 дней назад

      @@jacqweeeee well thats why I think its a big funny, rather than climbers in the gym chasing one subjective metric (V grade) we instead just chase another subjective metric (tape color). So may as well just give us the grade we know the setters are using and although subjective, in theory has some consistency with other gyms 🙂
