This channel is chronicling my journey from Senior Vice President to Truck Driver. After decades building a career in management, it no longer brought me joy. I spent three hours a day commuting just to work on budgets, have meetings, develop plans, grow revenue, and cut expenses. My phone always rang and there was no turning off the job.
It was time for a change. After some long conversations with my wife and a lot of internet research, I decided to become a truck driver. I guess, at the same time, I also decided to become a blogger/vlogger/RUclipsr.

Is per diem offered at Cheeseman?
Can you get the ultimate at a truck stop?
In one of your videos you had a magnetic rear facing camera, what was the make/model?
This is the one that I’m using. amzn.to/4eHCdOF
Wow, you’re definitely going to hit six figures this year. I hope new drivers get to see these kinds of videos and realize what is possible. It does take a lot of hard work and a lot of research to be with the right company but if you do those things it’s very possible for any driver.👍
Love how they pay for a safety video
They pay for 1 hour for the quarterly safety video plus 1¢ per mile. They really itemize things.
Nice back up...Always back up off the drivers side if possible. It always works out better
Wow! Do you ever go home or do you live out of your truck. Makes a huge difference!
It’s a short video, not even three minutes. I literally show the home time that I’ve taken through this pay period. Start and end times, total hours, total days. I stay out between 14 and 20 days depending upon when the weekend falls.
New Zealand?
Probably not…. But thanks for guessing.
Don’t buy this fridge the compressor makes to much noise and it will brake in 3 months
I published that video in March 2022. I still have that fridge and it’s still working.
Looks like your average year to date is creeping upwards! Great job
It goes up a little, down a little but stays pretty steady.
Much respect
Im thinking of lease with christenson are they decent? Why did u leave?
They are decent. They have nice equipment and my home time was great. I got a lot of loads that would be 500-600 miles but pick up one morning deliver the next night. That just didn’t fit with my way of running. I made way more money as a company driver. I left and returned to the carrier where I’ve spent 42 months of my 5 year trucking career. If I’m going to be a lease operator, I want to be making more than a company driver. I evaluate a carrier based upon; Culture, Home Time, Equipment, Compensation, and Knowledge.
Only mistake he made was not bending it enough. He had all the room he needed. But that place is typically hella busy. People backed up on the street honking while you’re trying to a difficult back is what sucks.
this is a bad stream
Good ole Alabama!
this place really doesn't seem that big.
Isn't there a Flying J or another Pilot that is surprisingly empty near (outside of) Columbus? I stayed at one.. can't remember which one
Meanwhile me avoiding a spot like that with a simple car.. 😂
i heard that!! me too!!
Is this an old clip? I see an International behind you, not a Pete.
I traded back to an International but a 2023.
I’ve not been to that one. Looks new.
It is new. Georgia. Love’s across the street.
I avoid this Pilot. I admire your fortitude!
Worse back up I’ve seen.
Seems there was room enough to get straight but didn’t occur to the driver. Truckers in general are quite stupid. Look at the helper. Is he even helping. Robots will be better than humans
wow.. so positive!
They try to help other drivers, that's great, that's the real unity
Gotta say, that was ridiculous. They have way too many trailers just sitting there. They need another lot off site to store what I'm guessing are empties.
That's risky, I would fo a different way
Bradenton is always an adventure.
Thanks for your Transparency im considering joining the team but trying to rap my head on how much it would impact 5year old I live in Atlanta
We have low turnover and very few open trucks. HOWEVER, you said you live in Atlanta. Call Monday. Don’t wait. I happen to know they are looking for a driver to be based out of Atlanta. As for family time, as a truck driver. The whole time my daughter was growing up I was working my way up the corporate ladder. I was “home” every night. I left before she work up, and I got home maybe an hour before she went to bed. I spent a lot of my time on the phone. One of the reasons I’m with Cheeseman is the home time. Out of Atlanta you’ll be able to get home for 3+ days every 2 weeks. Depending upon where in Atlanta, you might get an extra visit in passing through. Most of the places we deliver to aren’t open on weekends and holidays. When you park the truck, you are truly off. My Google Voice number is 706-418-5717, text first. I’m on home time until Monday.
You are killing it.
I’m loving it. But I’m several weeks behind on videos.
Great job! Keep it up!
Thanks, I’m still enjoying every day at work. Working on catching up the videos, too.
$15/hr is min wage. Wegmans pays that to kids collecting shopping carts
That $15 per hour is for every hour away from home. I don’t expect to be paid for hours I’m not working. Show me a kid collecting carts making $100k per year plus. Do you expect to be paid for sleeping? Going shopping? Working on videos?
But those kids aren’t making $100k plus a year either. I’m in a hotel away from home 3 to maybe 4 nights a week. I don’t get paid while sleeping. On the 34 hour resets (paid $100) you go adventure around. It’s all about if you are enjoying what you are doing. If so then it’s really not work.
@@bbbb1024 I need to do more “adventure around” videos.
@ that would be great! 😊
100 agree with you on this company I called them about working there and when they told me how it works I left at them told them good luck and hung up
It’s not that they are a bad carrier for which to work, they just aren’t the best carrier for me. I made money but less than I make as a company driver.
@MidlifeTrucker-ThomBell the only nice thing it looks like is the trucks
I have been looking into getting a drone but was holding off as it seems that the law prohibits you from flying just about everywhere. In practice does it seem like drones are mostly ignored?
Get your Part 107. You can then get permission with just a few clicks from LAANC.
Yup time to call the broker and ask for more money 🤣😂🤣😂
This isn’t a broker load but a load from one of our regular contract customers to an import export place. I’m used to it by now. I usually back in.
Absolutely ridiculous. That customer needs to find another lot to put some of those trailers in or provide a yard dog to dock your trailer for you.
Yup would never had even risked it. Yard dog.....
Are u still with cheeseman transport and if so is the pay good
I’m still with Cheeseman. I’m here until retirement. I show every pay statement. I show the logs and miles. I even break it down so you can see the home time. I think it’s very good for the industry.
@@MidlifeTrucker-ThomBell so is the pay and miles still faily good. Like whats the average weekly pay
@@_kashytwin_5275 - I know this is a silly question but did you watch the video? That is literally what the video is about. I show the logs, the pay statement, the home time, even compare it to a regular job and if I were paid for every hour in the truck. It’s a short video, like 4 minutes.
Birds Eye view is a great training tool Watching all the mistakes I like to make
Wish I had a bird’s eye view when I was actually backing.
You’re are doing awesome!! Keep it it!
Lt. is luxury touring
Not quite, but good guess.
This was a great video
Very nice
Thanks
When you are unsure, it is always best to not do a blindside back!!! when that option is available, of course
This is true. But practice can make the blind side easier.
Which Flying J is that? I need to know so I can stay vvvvvvvery far away! :-)
That would be Carlisle, Pennsylvania. I try to give the location and number near the beginning.
@@MidlifeTrucker-ThomBell I've been there a few times but I've never had to park there. Those service plazas in PA are calmer 🤣
A guy cooking Motorola chicken fried steak doctor Queen 😊😢
I've got a George Foreman electric grill and I love cooking steak, pork chops, hamburgers, and such on the back deck of my semi.
That Loves is so disfuntional.
I don't know this for sure but I'm betting the shop was added and that made that rear parking a lot more difficult.
That particular truckstop is a zoo! We have a customer close by and if I need parking I try to bobtail into that place.
It is a good location to get backing video footage from a drone, though.
Hey Thom I’ve developed software for owner-operators and carriers that helps manage expenses and track fleet finances. I think you’d find it valuable. Let’s connect and discuss a potential collaboration! Thanks and keep creating amazing content!
While I'm not an owner operator, I'm a nerd, so I do like tech and numbers. My contact info is always in the description.
I believe I saw you in Kinston late last week. If it wasn’t you it was a Cheeseman truck.
I do go to Kinston frequently but I wasn’t there last week. There are about 300 Cheeseman trucks.
at 1:30 the 5th one on the bottom from the left didn't want anybody next to him
Some do not like company.
Did that guy just really steal his spot he was trying to get into 🤦
The reason you are called an Owner Operator/Independent Contractor @any company is because that is legally what you are in the government eyes. It doesn’t matter what you think or what social media thinks! That’s what you are. I don’t get why people have a problem with this. Don’t sign a contract if you don’t believe in your title! This is why so many fail. They don’t believe in what they’re doing! Insane
