Prelude / Angry Young Man - Billy Joel
Просмотров 637Год назад
Today, I'm redoing a cover of "Prelude / Angry Young Man" by Billy Joel from his 1976 album, Turnstiles. This is one of my favorite Billy Joel songs, and it's the song that made me want to learn how to play the piano. I am playing it transposed a half step down as Billy has done since 2006. I have tried my best to replicate some of the riffs from the live versions. This version is much better t...
Bennie and the Jets (In the Mood) - Elton John
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.Год назад
It's been a while since I've uploaded a new Elton John cover, so today, I'm redoing "Bennie and the Jets," this time with the "In the Mood" boogie-woogie segment at the end that Elton would add during live shows in the 1980s, as well as his solo shows in the 1990s and 2000s. My cover from nearly three years ago is not as good as this. I'm planning on redoing more of my covers from 2020, as they...
RIP Jerry Lee Lewis 🎹🕊️
Просмотров 5 тыс.Год назад
This is my small tribute to a larger than life performer. Jerry Lee Lewis is a major influence on the way I play the piano. While he made a multitude of questionable decisions in his personal life, he was still one of the best to ever do it. He paved the way for other favorites of mine to exist. Thank you, Jerry Lee. May your music live on forever.
Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind This Time) - The Delfonics
Просмотров 6972 года назад
Today, I’m not performing a song by Billy Joel or Elton John, but one of my favorite songs of all time called, “Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind This Time)” by The Delfonics. Ever since I was a child, I’ve loved the sound of Philadelphia. Artists like The O’Jays, The Delfonics, and Daryl Hall & John Oates are some of my favorite musical artists ever! This song was released in 1970, and I consider it to...
52nd Street - Billy Joel
Просмотров 6062 года назад
Today, I'm performing "52nd Street," from Billy Joel's 1978 album of the same name. This is a really good song. I love Billy's Ray Charles-esque vocal, the piano riffs he plays, and the really jazzy seventh and ninth chords. My only complaint about this song is that it's too damn' short! This would be even more terrific than it already is if it had a longer jam session with more piano frills at...
Ticking - Elton John
Просмотров 4642 года назад
Today, I am performing "Ticking," a phenomenal obscure cut from Elton John's 1974 album, Caribou. This song depicts a deeply troubled adolescent that goes to a local bar and opens fire on unsuspecting patrons, which sadly, sounds all too familiar. Oh, and did I mention this song was written in 1974? When you actually listen to the lyrics, it's wild and upsetting how this exact scenario happens ...

Souvenir - Billy Joel
Просмотров 3412 года назад
Being that 2021 is coming to a close, what better than to play Souvenir from Billy Joel's 1974 album, Streetlife Serenade. It is a very short song, but it contains an incredibly poignant and poetic lyric about how the memories we make fade from one year to the next. This song has been performed live by Billy Joel at all of his New Year's Eve concerts, and it was not uncommon for it to be the cl...
Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting) - Elton John (Played on a Steinway)
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.3 года назад
Today, I'm performing "Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)" from Elton John's 1973 album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road on a Steinway piano at my college! This is the third cover I've uploaded of this song to RUclips, and it's slightly different than the other two, so I hope you enjoy it!
Playing on a Steinway!
Просмотров 3873 года назад
I apologize that this is my first upload since May. I’m long overdue to upload a video of my piano playing, and the cool part is that this upload is something quite special. I wandered into the empty recital hall at my college and I decided to set my phone down and begin recording myself playing a grand piano. This was my second time EVER playing a grand piano, and I believe my very first time ...
Two Thousand Years - Billy Joel
Просмотров 6843 года назад
Today, I'm doing a second rendition of "Two Thousand Years" by Billy Joel. This time, however, WITH VOCALS!!! I ended up purchasing a Shure Beta 58A and a small audio interface, and I have to say, this mic sounds great! I find its sound to be far superior to the SM58. This song came from Billy's 1993 album, River of Dreams and I find it to be one of the strongest tracks on the album. I'm playin...
Dixie Lily - Elton John
Просмотров 4113 года назад
Today, I’m performing “Dixie Lily,” from Elton John’s 1974 album, Caribou. This song has a real country vibe to it. It's pretty short and it was not a hit by any stretch, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad song. In fact, it’s a really fun tune! Elton performed this in concert a few times in 1974, a handful of times in 1982, quite a few times on the Made In England tour in 1995, and a handful of t...
You're My Home - Billy Joel
Просмотров 7663 года назад
Today, I'm performing "You're My Home" by Billy Joel from his 1973 album, Piano Man. This is one of my favorite songs off the album. This is a great love song. Billy takes an age-old metaphor for one's significant other and creates a fantastically timeless song using it. Billy performed this live quite frequently in the '70s. He played it once in 1980, which is the version that would end up on ...
Grey Seal - Elton John
Просмотров 2 тыс.3 года назад
Today, I'm playing "Grey Seal" by Elton John from his 1973 album, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Three years prior to the album version, the song was recorded in a slightly different arrangement for the B-side of the Rock and Roll Madonna single in 1970. When they re-recorded it in 1973, they changed the arrangement to a sparkly-funk sound, and it is really terrific. It was not a charting hit eithe...
Keeping the Faith - Billy Joel
Просмотров 5753 года назад
Today, I'm performing "Keeping the Faith" from Billy Joel's 1983 album, An Innocent Man. This song was released as a single and hit #18 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #3 on the Adult Contemporary charts. I first heard this song on Billy Joel's Greatest Hits Vol. III CD when I three years old and I have loved it ever since. This song has an interesting history when it comes to being performed in c...
If you ever get a chance, google “Dominick Turnstile Moonwalk” listen to it & you will know why I’m saying this lol. You did an amazing job here. Very talented player. It sounds like you’re playing B for the opening piano. Regardless it’s great..
Very nice!!! His most underrated song too
What's your sound setup like. I'm trying to get something similar. I've even purchased a Kurzweil Micropiano but it sounds like shit. Are you using just vsts or is there a hardware synth at play.
This is amazing!

Best cover I’ve seen of this song. Do you have sheet music?
Can you make a tutorial
Excellent job!❤
Fire …. Excellent
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
This is absolutely incredibly well done. You included the "funeral procession" beats with your left thumb at the beginning. Most everyone forgets that. You've got them! And then in "Love Lies Bleeding" you included all of the trills. You did such an amazing job performing this piece. Well done. You have such amazing talent. It's jaw dropping. Thank you for sharing your talent!
Thanks! This means a lot! I actually perform this a bit better now, so I plan to post a new version at some point!
I’m looking forward to listening to it! I subscribed to your channel. Thank you, again!
Really nicely done!
Thank you! I have to redo this song at some point. I have two versions of it up, and I'm not really happy with either of them haha. I play most of these songs a lot better now.
j'adore cette chanson, je suis surpris par ton style bien fourni, et qu'elles petites variations ...BRAVO c'est un plaisir.....
You are very talented bud. You certainly deserve a lot more views. Nice job 👍
Thanks! I appreciate that!

how did you get that sound?
In this particular video, I am using SoundFonts of a Yamaha Motif PowerGrand and a sample of a Roland MKS-20. These are the two modules that Elton still uses in his rack. I also place a chorus effect over the entire thing, which is something they've done with his piano during Bennie for almost 20 years now. I actually have a Motif unit now and an RD-1000 (which is the keyboard version of the MKS-20), so when I get back to making videos more often (likely this summer), I plan to use the physical units instead of the SoundFonts.
@@KyleCourounis I have a Yamaha p45 b piano, how can I do, in order to get that sound? Because I don't understand much about, how to get different sounds 😭
@@jpy3916 That keyboard I’m playing has no built-in sounds. It’s a MIDI controller and I trigger the sounds in Apple MainStage. The P45 should have a USB MIDI port that you can hook up to a computer.
Just Amazing man! how I missed that solo version can you name the show of this version? incredible!
Thank you! This is not from any particular solo show, actually. It's a collection of riffs I've heard in various different versions. The intro comes from an early Farewell Yellow Brick Road show (wanna say University Park gig in September of 2018) and some of the chorus is like the Million Dollar Piano show in Vegas, I think.
@@KyleCourounis Wow! Sounds like a particular version Amazing man a great idea. it sounds like something that he could play solo.
Amoreena perhaps ?
You killed it! Very good version!!! I love Elton John's music, although I have attended only one of his concerts and he didn't play it. The melody is great, though..... Despite the lyrics. Thanks for sharing your and his Art! 😉
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
i love ittt
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic piano cover. I love it.
Thanks! The tempo is too quick on this version, so I plan on redoing this one at some point on my Roland RD-1000 (the piano that Elton played on the record and toured with for years) possibly over the next month, so stay tuned!
Do you think you could make a tutorial for this song?
Wow!!!! Very nice delivery of the instrumental version. It's one of my Billy's favorite songs also. Thank you for uploading this version. ❤
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi! My name is Owen and I’m working on a fan project about Billy Joel’s life and career. I was wondering if I could possibly use this and credit you? Your arrangement is incredible.
Not bad, tempo little fast and heavy on the left hand thumb.
Yeah, I'm aware. I plan to redo a lot of my early covers at some point, possibly over the next month when I'm home more. I play it at a better tempo now! Stay tuned!
Best cover
Thanks! I appreciate that!
Clever boy
Amazing!!!!
Thanks! I plan on redoing this cover at some point, so stay tuned! ;)
Seriously good job, sir!
Thank you! I plan to rerecord this at some point, because I can play it even better now (more in time and just overall better), so stay tuned for that!
Best Bennie and the jets cover out there
Thanks, man! I appreciate that!
Awesome, but a terrible camera angle
It's meant to look like Elton's piano camera that is hooked and angled on the side of his piano, but in this particular video, it is far too sideways. I've played around with other angles on more recent videos. I plan on redoing this cover at some point for several reasons, but for now, this'll have to do.
If you would entertain a request, please do Crazy Water by Elton John.
I would love to do that one, particularly based on the versions he did with Ray Cooper in 2009. I learned it fully about a year ago, but I think I'd have to go back and learn a lot of the parts again, as I haven't played it in a really long time!
Its so beaufiul ❤️
Thank you! This isn't one of my best covers when it comes to timing, but I'm glad you enjoyed it!
FASTER!!!
YES PLEASEE FASTERR
Simply spectacular!
Thanks! I'm probably going to redo this one at some point too, so stay on the lookout for that!
That's awesome!! I love to watch a great pianist tickling the ivories!! ❤🎹❤️
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I have more videos on my channel, so be sure to subscribe!
You are amazing! Absolutely amazing! You have blown me away! OMG! Elton needs to hear this!
Thanks! My more recent covers on my channel are way better than this one here, but I appreciate that very much!
The killer would be proud! Well done mate!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
all my respect Kyle. it is a pleasure to listen to you deserve a lot more subscribers.
Thank you! I appreciate that!
Great job!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
How did you get your piano to sound like that?
Sorry it took so long to respond, but I use SoundFonts in MainStage of the exact sound modules Elton John uses, which are a Yamaha ES rack with the PowerGrand preset and a Roland MKS-20. I EQ the MKS-20 with the highs and mids boosted, and I believe the PowerGrand is slightly boosted as well. For this rendition of Bennie and the Jets, I also put a Chorus plugin on the entire patch, as that's what can be heard on Elton's piano for some versions since at least 2010-ish (little bit before too).
@@KyleCourounis it's all good, and thank you so much! Also keep up the work because your playing is amazing!!
@@mr.person329 Thanks! I appreciate that!
You're absolutely brilliant! So much like his piano keys it's unreal!! I'm learning Bennie and the jets at the moment myself
Thank you! I recently re-did my cover of that song here: ruclips.net/video/XAQv4N3fhso/видео.html
I would love to see you do Carla Etude and Tonight. I know you would kill it like Elton does.
This is a huge compliment! Thank you! Believe it or not, I haven't actually learned Carla Etude yet, simply because it would be such a big project.
Brilliantly done!
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Wow, incredible performance! Do you make sheet music for these songs available? Specifically, I'm looking for your arrangement of somewhere along the line for my school band. Thanks!
Thanks! Unfortunately, I don't have sheet music as that's not how I play. Sorry! I may do tutorials at some point though, so be sure to hit subscribe though if you enjoyed!
Pls do
amazing bro
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Wow you play this so well! Would you be able to upload a midi tutorial or something along those lines for us to learn too? Thanks 😊
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! I would love to do tutorials one day, but these songs are very difficult to teach with these arrangements. I tend to play with a certain style and I don't really think about what I'm playing all the time, so it's hard to teach it haha
@@KyleCourounisshare a midi cover and we’ll be able to see you play it on the board and learn it
Nice job Kyle!
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
