      @@lafgreg one q? for you though Greg'. after you head up, sweep the sail back and then bring it forwards to backwind it in the air. How far forwards? is it like an upwind 360? I think if you bring to too fart with the mast towards the nose, it'll just get blown back in your face and throw you off..!?

      @@adrianwest10 you need to put your front arm as straigh as possible like you want to lay the sail in the water, this is critical. You wont get backwinded as you will naturally control the sail with your back hand.

    Hi Grégoire. A while ago I posted here to clarify some doubts I had about the side or tack I should practice the shove-it/shaka. I have been trying the shove-it to my “downwind tack”, I mean where I can do most of my downwind moves easily, like forwards, spocks, grubbys. I managed to lay down on my sail carving gently upwind with my sail open (as you said), and only sheeting in hard when I reached the upwind chop, and then laying down on my sail pointing to the nose of the board or somewhere around there. My problem seems to be that everytime I do that, I do something like a “shove it-spock” that I can not control. I don’t know how to keep the nose of the board aiming upwind without lifting the back of my board and rotating like in a shove-it-spock. You said the board doesn’t go upwind because of the carving: it depended on how hard I sheeted-in my sail when I reached the chop. But, ¿what about the body position? ¿Do I have to extend my front leg trying to keep the nose of the board pointing upwind or it just “happen” if I enter into the right angle? I feel kind of stuck here. Everytime I do that my board rotates into a “shove it-spock” and I only want to enter into a shaka. ¿What do you think I am doing wrong? Oliver

    • @lafgreg
      @lafgreg 7 лет назад

      Oliver Krüger I did that mistake before, It might be that when you trigger the Shaka you pull Too Much the back hand. it's not about sheeting in. You put sail neutral and then you kind of 'paddle the wind' with the sail, the sail stays neutral. Good Luck, the mistake your having is normal I did the same, keep on trying they Will come.

Of course I can land high shove its every time I want, because of the right technique I developed with Gregs tutorial about the shaka. Go for it, this is the best tutorial I found to get started and really understand the move and what you are doing. Most dificult move for me to understand, and the foundation for more advanced backwind moves like Konos, Culos, etc.

      Green Colr hi, first part is to put sail neutral and carve gently upwind while keeping your speed. Second part is to do the motion I explain in the video with the sail, this is where you lay the sail. Good Luck and thanks for your comment. Greg

      thomas lotocki thanks a lot for your feedback, really appreciated. I used a JP freestyle 100 and a 4.8 and 4.5 most of the time, both work really good for Shaka. The key factors : small fin and light rig will help you. Good Luck and have fun!

    Hi Grégoire, I have seen lots of windsurfing videos and explanations and never found a better one about this move. You have made it very easy to learn, but I still have some questions. For example, I am right handed and goofy footed. I do downwinded moves with my left foot in front, such as spocks, forward loops and grubbys. With my right foot in front (being goofy), I can do flakas and the beginning of some ponches (not landed yet). I have tried shove its on my "downwinded side" and its weird how its seems to be easier to handle the sail (being right handed, so I have more strength on the back hand), but my hip does not have the "looseness" to carve enough as on my flaka side (right foot in front). So the question is: ¿which side should I choose? My flaka side (having a far better carving, but no feeling about the sail move and posture, or my spock-forward side, where I feel I can lay down on the sail easily, but having problems with the carving? The logic says I should do it on my flaka side, because it should be easier on the landing stage and for building a shaka-flaka combo in the future, but my few attempts say: keep doing to the other side.

    • @lafgreg
      @lafgreg 7 лет назад

      Oliver Krüger thanks a lot for your comment. I learned all the manoeuvres you mention the same side as you. For some time I could do only shoveit as I didnt had enough momemtum to rotate through shakas. But I learned that Shaka are not rotated because of carving but because of how you "throw" the sail to the back and that made the board to pivot upwind, You only need to carve gently in the first part to face apparent wind while keeping your speed. So I would say go with your left foot front as you already know how to do shove it, now just exagerate the move with the sail as I showed in the vidéo, the rest of the Shaka is really easy as long as you land facing the wind with control of the sail ( front arm straight , back arm bended ). By the way once you learn à move on one side you should try on the other side, I did learned à lot of move both side and that made windsurfing more fun and help me improve. Please keep me informed of your progression, I might do another vidéo about Shaka explaining why the technique I showed work. Thanks and good Luck!

      I am setting this move as my next challenge, so have been looking into it extensively. It almost looks like a heli tack executed rapidly while planning: the way the sail is brought to the back of the board and then swivelled to the front reminds me of the move... Keep the videos coming :)

      For shove-it its the same technique as shaka but less agressive, I explain shove-it at the end if the video. If you try shaka with the technique I showed youre likely to do shovr it first and as you get confidence shaka will come. These manoeuvers take time to learn, you have to repeat a lot and try with the good technique.
