No you create a complex drivetrain for no benefit. Hybrids actually have worse fuel range as the electric motors only work in the city and become extra weight when driving on the highway.
except that ecvt trans like Toyota and fords are far more simple than simple automatics with the pros of a cvt but no belt to worry about. take a camry for example, a 23 4cyl 8 speed only weighs a 100 pounds less than a 23 camry hybrid with 20 mpg over the nonhybrid on the highway and 14 over in the city.
