i have not watched this yet, i bought the first 3 dvds from a flea market... hoping to watch next week. it looked interesting for my collection. this shall be one of my first animes, ive only watched 4 animes before this one.

Here's something positive about FF2s Leveling system!!! No level cap Have fun maxing out stats!! As Someone who loves the best stats possible especially in a game like Final Fantasy, FF2 is one game I was able to do that on!! Unlike FF1(I don't hate either game just comparing Leveling systems and how frustrating they are) that has a level cap so once you hit max level that's it!! Where your stats are at be happy with them even if they aren't maxed out!! FF1s Leveling stat is RNG meaning you can literally raise HP stat anywhere from +1 to +30!! As for the Keyword System I can defend that too!! All Final Fantasy games especially the ones I'm not familiar with I go and talk to random NPCs all the time!! Sometimes they can either trigger a sidequest or it's progress to the main quest which the game itself fails to hint out to you so what are you left with other then checking every single corner in the games!? Obviously speaking to the NPCs it's not different from the Keyword System in FF2!!! I'll admit dungeon design and over world isn't all that in fact I'll even go as far as saying it's garbage but the over all game isn't!! The music is great FF2s plot is unique like being the opposite of Fantasy!! You're main characters aren't even heros they're ordinary people who tried to flee from the empire and almost died for doing so!! Plus the further you progress in the game the more the world gets destroyed!! Definitely one of the darkest games in the series!! The main characters aren't heros until they take out the Emperor or Empire!! (idk the main villains name by heart and it isn't because "it's a bad game therefore it isn't memorable") Me defending FF2 of course isn't me saying it's the best one ever nor am I saying it's a masterpiece!! It's not my least favorite in the series and the reason I'm defending it is because what I basically just said in my novel of a comment here!! It sounds more like Nit Picking rather then finding legitimate reasons to hate on the game!!! FF3 is my least favorite mainly because it's another 8 bit game with a plot that's basically the same as FF1 the only difference is it introduced the job system therefore you don't need to stay with a "fixed job" but it don't feel like freedom either since certain areas of the game makes you choose 1 particular job class to progress through, either that or just do an unnecessary amount of grinding just to get through it!! In fact FF3s Final dungeon basically forces you to grind otherwise you won't be able to beat the game thanks to Cloud Of Darkness wiping out your entire party members with a final blow!! You have to hope 1 of your characters survive otherwise have fun grinding even more!! I can understand why it's argued to be the "best" in the Nes era but let's be honest most people either only played the 3D remake or they praise the game for breaking the Nes limitation!! This is all of course just my personal opinion!!

Your original 999 video is one of my favorites ever. I've been a vocal supporter of the DS game being new time fans first experience with this wonderful game (maybe with the faster text patch if it's unbearably slow for them). The Nonary Games should have been a Novel Mode only game, retaining the exact same script as the DS version with no additional voiced dialogue. If it just did that, I don't believe I would have that much ire for it. It still wouldn't be as good, but it would be servicable.

i mean the basd story of swsh ended up having a new storywriter be hired (i think anyways) and creating the great PLA story and literally the best story in the series with S/V

So, way late to making a comment, but as someone who's streamed the game and beat it... I never got far on the advance version, because dumb me using VBA and barely playing optimally existed. With FF1 advance I eventually beat it, took a while but hey I did, and than Pixel remaster came out years later, and I beat that. Now FF2 advance I never beat, but when I played on stream I used Minwu's swap to raise HP, would mess with the MP mechanic, etc. I raised stuff, I grinded and I beat the game. I felt proud. It was a good game, sure I can see when people hate the level up mechanics but it's not actually bad, just tedious. Still the game doesn't deserve the hate, people just need to figure out what they could raise without doing stupid stuff. Sure you can get the 9999 HP thing early but still

still hope for a remake. It desrves one. Maybe we will hear soemthing next year, 20th anniversary and all.

Who let my 10 year old self watch this anime with no subtitles, just Japanese, the entire thing just went over my head... the only thing I remember is the outro, now as an adult I suddenly remembered this anime and....damn....now I know why I turned out weird... My god this anime is something, my kid brain thought it was a slice of life anime with a group of friends.... I totally missed the romance aspect somehow...

Final Fantasy 2 in a nutshell: Great game. Shame about the dungeons. I'm shocked by just how few people have played the PSP versions of FF1 and 2. They're easily the best versions of both and the PSP version fixes a lot of the bigger problems with FF2. The pixel remake version actually has decent fixes for everything, including the awful dungeons. ^_^

In the Twilight Wings mini series, Oleana is a minor researcher or secretary. She's shown with her partner pokemon, a Trubbish! If we go with the new storyline, Oleana can be an immigrant from Unova, who lived on the streets(where she met Trubbish). Rose takes her in, gets her a job and with the newfound job security, catches more "stylish"pokemon. She'll always love Trubbish tho ❤

For some reason the RUclips algorithm recommended this video to me (I don't usually search for videos or channels about anime on RUclips), and I'm quite happy, at almost 34 years old it was one of the ones that I knew existed in my adolescence and I still have in my pending to see, your video is very good and it helped me understand about the series and frankly I didn't know everything about it, hopefully one day I will have a spice & wolf type remake but I highly doubt it...

If you REALLY know how leveling system works in FF2, hitting yourself is the least you should do. You raise agility which affects evasion only by ENEMY's attack. That's why the speedrunners do "shield dance" instead. Also if you bump up too much HP, regular enemies just run away. It just makes more difficult to level up such stat.

I mean... I played the Pixel remaster version... and I.... semi liked it... I was stuck so often but yeah it was also the time I started with the final fantasy series... so you can expect I was so inexperienced that my stupidity scared away FF2

I am currently playing though this game on the pixel remaster (I just obtained the Ultima tome). I personally agree with all of your observations. I saw a lot of hate about the leveling system before I started. I am enjoying it thoroughly by just playing through it normally, and I have not found any need to grind at all. The pixel remaster has a lot of improvements and can be set to balance the leveling, but I haven't found it to be necessary. Great video, I subscribed and I'm looking forward to watching your other stuff.

Yeah i loved yhe TV series. Yeah, it sucks most of the books never got a translation. But most people didn't like the show in the West. You can always hold your phone over each page (translate app) or learn Japanese. That's the only way 🤔

I would really like two more changes to the story. First, 1000 years in the future is waaaaay too long. Not incomprehensibly long, but you can't *really* imagine it. Being so far out means that Leon is objectively correct, waiting a few days literally won't matter. Instead, the wishing stars should run out in about 100 years. That's still a ways away, but near enough to justify Rose's panic. He wouldn't be worried for some nebulous future generation that will have better technology anyways, but for his own grandchildren. Secondly, I think it would make sense if Eternitus was manipulating Rose and possibly Oleana. It's basically a Lovecraftian, Ultra Beast kind of thing, so lean into that! Finding the fossil allows it to subtly infect Rose's mind; but fully controlling the chairman, but pushing him towards the choices needed to bring it back to life. That could also explain why Eternitus waited so long, because cloning technology in this setting is still 'relatively' new.

I never played the original DS game playing the PC Adaptation felt like I was playing one of those old Anime OVA’s

About the Darkest Day content repeating so much, it's because Gamefreak targets toddlers who need repetition to learn. They forget that the people who made Pokemon popular are the fans who grew up with the game before it became so hand holdy.

Final Fantasy 2 is amazing its basically an RPG with a lot of freedom of choices

I didn't know, that adventure and novel mode were not the same from the narrative point of view, so now I am frustrated, because I've played like 90% of the time in adventure mode. But this game became even more interesting now.

I played the gba version of the game and I had a great time honestly. It would be nice to have a 3d version. I enjoyed the world and setting.

After violet I love the game more the game play and the mecanics like camping but like the video said the story is dry but not unberable

i played 999 on a rom, but i did put it on to my dsi first which spared me from having to mess around with settings, so i got the true experience. and im thankful i chose the original format over the remaster, i dont think it would've hit the same. also this video finally made me realize why i had to turn my ds upside down so there's that lol. i assumed it was to represent akanes perspective somehow, but knowing that its actually just turning the bottom screen into the top screen to show junpei is solving the puzzle makes a lottttt more sense

The scene of Junpei's kidnapping could've just given him a pet. When I walk home I say weird shit to my cats all the time. Or have him on the phone? Like it wouldn't have been THAT much effort

As someone who just played and beat the NG version on Vita, I don’t know if it helps or not but I kinda wanna play though the true ending with the other mode because the sheer amount of talking at the end got me so downtrodden. I know its revelations and all that but you CANNOT tell me we have 30 minutes left and yet we had time for ALL THAT YAPPING. If the game said “you have an hour left” that makes way more sense that all the stuff happened in a hour. Also, the flow chart showing you that there’s 9 additional chart parts past the coffin really made me feel the slog. If playing again in that mode will make the timing feel better then I’m all for it. I really wish I had played the ds version, because I wanted to feel the sheer weight of the revelations everyone else felt. I really wish it solidified itself in my soul like with so many others. And that’s what a bad/questionable port does. It ruins how that game resonates with its audience. That…is devastating

FF2 is good, but what is not good are your overly-long excerpts of other people. These things should last five seconds at most, not a minute or more. I stopped watching at the second time that you did it when referring to hitting yourself through a hundred different authors over and over for far too long.

If anyone is interested in playing this game without the frustration, I recommend playing the Pixel Remaster on the Switch. It comes with boosters, like no random battles. It made the game far more enjoyable. This version also highlights the needed keywords to ask each NPC so you don't need to waste time trying them all.

When you have to make a video defending a game, then it's automatically a bad game. You don't see anyone having to defend good games like Final Fantasy 6 or 9. Final Fantasy 2 doesn't have good story telling or memorable characters. It's bad.

The leveling system is terrible. It's not about "having choice." It's about the completely foolish way it's employed. Example: Esuna cures petrify. However, you need to get it to level 6 to get it to work. How does one do this? Well, you MUST get into battle with a weak enemy and constantly cast Esuna over and over again until it's leveled up because there are never enough organic instances to use Esuna to level it up. And it's not "just another option." If you want the spell to fix status ailments, you need to improve it to level 6. And if you're having issues with grinding while hurting yourself, that's on you. It's FAR easier to increase your weapons, HP, MP, and spells to grind by hitting yourself. It's not the least bit frustrating. It's far FASTER than grinding normally. And there are ABSOLUTELY parts of the game that require grinding. If you think that this is a great system, or even an excusable one, you're an idiot. And the dungeon designs are AWFUL. The vast majority of paths lead to empty rooms. There will be 4-6 doors, with 5 of them leading to an empty room. It's not just boring--it's LAZY. It makes the game uninteresting. And don't tell me the word system is excusable. It's tedious and needlessly demanding, as you might think you're good to go, travel across the world, but then you realize that you missed one dialogue and have to trek all the way back. It's not "quick." It's terrible.

I just bought the steam version yesterday, and at first I wasn't sure what you were talking about with the redundant narration, but now we see it everywhere. I'm sure they could have done some unvoiced narration in between dialogue, and trim some of the fat so to speak
