Nelson Mandela was the leader of a brutal terrorist organization before he was put in prison. His wife took over that organization for more than 20 years. Nelson ordered many deaths before his reform. He was sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to masterminding a car bombing that killed 19 people. It is absolutely amazing that after his time in prison he is seen as a peaceful man. This is the leader that should unify the Aboriginal Australians?

It's a NO. 1. If you all take a look at the proposal, it's missing a lot of detail on how it will work. Yes I looked at it. 2. When many of the aboriginal elders I know are against this as they see a big great divide, along with this push is made by those who destroy what is given to them, cry poor and hard done by, and want people to keep giving them hand outs so they don't have to make any effort to for things that rest of the Australians including the working aboriginals do. 3. Aboriginals/first nation people have already got their voice in parliament and recognition right around the country for over 14 years, Take a look at all government buildings and most landmarks. There is the Aboriginal, and Toris Straight flags flying right around the country next to the actual international recognised Australian flag. No other country around the world does this. It's not seen in many European countries where lands been taken away and invaded way before this country was. (There's been many more land grabs in Europe since the English settled in Australia). Listen to all the official speeches, games etc, the first nation people are recognised. So they are heard and already have a voice. Again we are the only country that has this. Don't have this recognising Indians in Canada and United states. First nations people are already included in the constitution, they are called residents and citizens of Australia. So many of us do work together, and it's worked and progressed. Don't divide this country by those who want bigger hand outs for doing nothing to earn it. One can see the divide amongst the Aboriginals in many cities and outback towns. It's not hard to pick them out.

If you vote "yes" it acknowledges Indigenous Australians within the laws of the constitution and allows them to guide parliamentary decisions that affect (Hopefully, positive changes towards the land and their people. Also, it is hard to remove the legislation once it becomes an Australian law. If you vote "No", then government decisions are made with limited input from indigenous Australians such as today. Their are many types of indigenous groups who want to say "No" because they believe that saying "Yes" does not justify the needs of their own homogenous group, which in a way promotes culture within their groups but will continue to reduce the rights of the indigenous population as a whole. If you "vote yes" parliamentary change to laws under vote can allow for positive changes strengthening the future and accountability (including rights) that Australian Aboriginals have longed for since federation, as written in the Group acknowledgement (by majority of aboriginal people) under "Uluru Statement of the Heart. The selfishness of Indigenous people who "vote no" suggests that there has never been a true unity of groups in aboriginal culture, which has been apparent over millions of years. I think it is better to be recognised under law and work together in unity for all, then lose the opportunity of recognition as a people.

Vote no or your choosing special privileges based on heritage, this is considered racist in anyone’s book. Don’t get me wrong the treatment on the First Nations people has been horrendous for the last 240 years but this voice has no power to change this. If the public really care about this issue they will rally their local politicians for changes not vote in a referendum that no one actually understands what they are voting for exactly!!!

Something thats interesting is the fact that the polling shows that the more removed one is from an indigenous area the more likely one is to vote yes and obviously the more removed one is from those areas the lower ones understanding of aboriginal culture and issues would be.
