Thanks, great and useful video. A one question only. Is that sure, we need to put the helm to the port? I have made this maneuver already in Primosten Kremik marina in heavy sidewind and the exercise was carried out by turning the helm to starboard, i.e. to the direction I did want to go. Further, in similar situation when docking with the stern, if you want to move the bow of the boat upwind, you need to fix the upwind sternline and drive the boat forward and helm it to the wind. Hence, I do not understand why to helm the boat to port in the above scenario. Please help me to understand. Many thanks.
Thank you for watching. It is very often and good question. It is much easier to show you than explain using words but it works like this. When using this techinque you should always go with the helm opossite from your direction if you want to move parallel. In that case your stern goes out as well and beacuse of position of your line it will become a pivot point to turn. You can also see from video that prop wash is pushing as in that direction that we want. If you would go with helm to direction you want to go than your stern will go to the dock first and you cannot avoid it unless wind is pushing you away. Bow will start going in that direction but NOT the whole boat. Also when you dock with stern you use winward line but also turn the helm away from the wind so BOW and STERN move parallel in wind direction. If you turn helm in direction of the wind, bow will go there but not at same time as stern. We will also make few episodes about stern docking so this will be explained. Hope that video will explain it even better. Many thanks 😊
@@adriaticsailingacademy16 wonderful, now I now why the stern pushed so hard to the pier when I made the 180 degree turm and we had to protect it like hell. Same happened when I parked out with stern to the dock and it pushed hatd to the leeward side neighbour. Thank you a million times
@@adriaticsailingacademy16 I really look forward to seeing further episodes with docking in and out in heavy winds
@@balazssalacz7763 You are welcome. Try it this way when you have chance. Let us know how it was!
@@balazssalacz7763 We will do it very soon!!
How many can fit sitting on each bench in the cockpit? 4 ? Or too crowded?
Hello, 3 is very comfortable in my opinion, even that is not so big boat it has very wide stern. Thank you for watching. 😊
Thank you for watching! Glad to hear that, hope that video helps anybody learning to dock. Thank you for compliments 😊
Nice technique and good job covering it with good video footage and an explanation. Thanks!
How fast?
❤
I wanna get same one !!!!
awesome video
Thank you
yeah uhm.. that's not sailing 10 knots lol
It actually is. I think instruments are reliable on a brand new boat. Thanks for opinion.
How did you determine the knots from watching a 7 seconds video?
@@adriaticsailingacademy16 There is just no way with nothing but a genoa and mainsail on that course with that amount of wind. If you're doing 10 knots SOG then you got AT LEAST 3 knots of current helping you out.
@@nomansland120 What else would you ad at close reach Nicks? Also area is covered with low flat islands which protects from waves( probbably thats why you think wind is lower) If you know Adriatic you would know there is no much current specialy not in this direction and yes wind is around 22knots.
Ha ha, only in your DREAMS!
