    This is not divinity. Divinity has a meringue component, and is whipped until crystallization begins. It holds it's shape when portioned. What you've made looks tasty, but I'm not quite sure what it is.

    You had me at brown sugar ; ) My mom always made homemade frosting and there really is nothing like it. Although i have used canned frosting for ease - i recently said to myself - basic homemade is too easy to ignore. i'm proud to say it even prompted me to make a couple cakes this past year. What a difference! Now your frosting is far from basic, but i have no doubt that will be what makes it so delicious in the end. can't wait to see how it comes out after being refrigerated & re-mixed! PS - I would love to see a recipe for maple frosting - i had one long ago, but can't seem to find it or duplicate it!!

    Great story about your Mom and daughter!! and these look SO good - love the way you can mix it up to your tastes. i might be one to use the brand "Homade Relish" (can't seem to find it on the internet right now, but i still see it in stores). it comes in a little round jar and it's a sweet, sour and spicy relish that my MIL used to pour over cream cheese and serve with waverly crackers - delicious and always a hit around my family. not sure if using cream cheese would work in place of brie, but this recipe is still very versatile and that's always a bonus. love using refrigerated bisquits also, so thanks for the tips re: parchment paper over a silicone mat. thanks Lani!

    • @gourd-geousgals5674
      @gourd-geousgals5674 4 месяца назад

      Hi Pam, I think the relish you are talking about is actually called "Chili Sauce. My mom used to do the same thing! I think cream cheese would be worth a try and less expensive. . . .Whenever I have sticky ingredients, I will use parchment paper to help reduce the stick! Have a wonderful week and talk to you soon.

      Hello Carolyn, Thank you for watching our channel. The recipe is very simple the ingredients will make about 5 patties so you can double if cooking for a larger group. Ingredients: 1/2 cup butternut squash, roasted (or steamed) and mashed. 24 oz salmon (wild-caught) 4 eggs 1/4 cup green onions, chopped 1/4 cup coconut flour 1 Tablespoon Coconut Aminos 2 teaspoons Dijon Mustard 1 teaspoon garlic powder Sea Salt & Pepper to taste Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with foil and spray with cooking spray. 2. In a large bowl mix all ingredients until fully combined. 3. Separate the mixture into equal parts and create your patties. The mixture should be very moist, which will give a moist patty. 4. Bake 25 to 30 minutes. Options: 1. You can brown the patties in a skillet over medium heat with 1 Tablespoon of coconut oil. 2. I like mustard so I go a little heavy and will mix different mustards, 3. I will be using fresh salmon and not the canned. It is a mess picking through to find all the bones. I hope this helps and you love this recipe as much as I do. Please share a picture when you make them. We love to see and hear about others' experiences. Thank you again for taking the time to watch our channel and posting a comment. i'm not a salmon fan, but my mom and gramma sure were! What i really liked seeing in this video was the way you cooked, scraped and froze your own home grown butternut squash! i'm slowing down after years and years of gardening, so all we had this year was a container tomato and a container cucumber. i'm afraid the cuc plant was started too late or for whatever reasons, just didn't make it like they used to in the ground for me. but oh, those tomatoes! for such a small plant, we ate tomatoes all summer, the amount was just right for us. and there is - NOTHING like the taste of homegrown! a tip from my son: if he doesn't have tomatoes from his own garden or a farmer's market, he goes for canned. He feels they are much closer to the taste of home grown than anything you can find in the produce isles of a supermarket. I agree. i don't know what those red things are in produce aisles, but they're not tomatoes!!! great video Lani!

      Hi Pam, thank you for the comment and the suggestion about canned tomatoes over produce isle for a fresher taste. I do like Salmon, but my mom would serve it with creamed corn, I guess to add more moisture to the patties. They do tend to be a little dry if you don't start out with a moist patty. I like adding the mustard sauce on top of the patties to add another layer of flavor. Thank you for watching and have a Gourd.geous Day!

    Those look great! With all the spices, and once the salt was sprinkled - i just wanted to taste some so bad! It was interesting to learn that by keeping them in water for 30 minutes, the starch was reduced. i love learning something new! My daughter-in-law always roasts her vegetables and at first i thought they would be dry and void of flavor. not so! they are a little different, but taste more earthy than boiling or frying and i really enjoy them. To me, it wasn't something i had to 'get used to' and feel deprived over, it was just another way to taste their goodness. Maybe even better ; ) thanks for another descriptive video!

    i don't know how i missed this video. and to think - it's about cucumbers, one of my favorite foods that i don't eat often enough. As a bonus, i just learned all about english cucumbers too! funny, i've always passed them by, just knowing they weren't MY cucumbers, yet as it turns out, there is nothing to fear - hahhahhaaa! Lani, this is precious to me. As a child visiting my gramma's iowa farm each summer - we would frequently find a glass bowl of cuc's and vinegar on the supper table. now i didn't like the smell or taste of vinegar but nothing was going to keep me away from those cuc's! they were delish, and in my memory only added to the flavor. i love the old food knowledge - this is going to make me look it up and try to find out why exactly cuc's were combined with vinegar. was it just for flavor, or is there more to it? i do know my gramma in her later years would drink a couple spoons of vinegar each day. Wow, i do go on, don't i? - and here i actually have a question for you. i'm wondering if you mean that as you add cucmbers you will be using the same rice vinegar you originally poured? seems like you could reuse it for quite awhile, but how long awhile? one more thing - my gramma (and me) love picked beets. well she would save that beet juice and add hard boiled eggs to it in a mason jar. she would also add cooked and sliced beets from the garden to it. again - i have to wonder how long that juice can be reused? thanks for the great video Lani, i would like to try the seasoned rice vinegar myself! (hmmm, i wonder if pickled beet juice cucumbers would taste good?)

      Hello Pam, I love that you share such precious memories, thank you. I didn't like cucumbers when I was younger, to me there just wasn't enough flavor. My daughter is the one that opened up my taste buds to using the seasoned rice vinegar and it made all the difference in the world. Now all summer long I eat seasoned rice vinegar cucumbers, it also helps keep me away from unhealthy snacks! I do re-use the vinegar for 2 weeks then I toss it out. These marinated cucumbers are kept in the refrigerator but don't last that long because I can't stop eating them. Vinegar keeps longer without food, but once you introduce food I personally prefer to use it for two weeks then start fresh. My mom use to make pickled eggs and beets as well. I'll have to give that a try again soon. FYI- the seasoned rice vinegar has a great flavor but will still make your mouth pucker! Thanks for the walk down memory lane. Have a gourd-geous day!

      @sing7594 9 месяцев назад

      Thanks for your answer Lani. I do see the sense in saying that once food is introduced, it's a new ballgame. i think the 2 wk rule sounds just right. Also, if you don't eat these fast, even with the vinegar, those cucumbers may begin to break down which would further taint the whole shebang. the good news is, i think we could detect pretty easily a change in taste and realize it was time to start over and just eat the next batch faster! @@gourd-geousgals5674

    I am SO impressed with your vegetable gardening Lani! Especially since our summer got such a late start in our area. Bravo I say! To you and Wendy, Tobie, and whoever all else helped. There is absolutely nothing like home grown. As for this simple recipe - it looks delicious, nutritious and easy. A doctor once told me those colors are also important to nutrition - that if you're unsure of 'what gives you what' - a mix of colors will insure a variety of nutrients. More and more I'm loving vegetable meals, sometimes with no meat at all. I think this could be very versatile according to tastes. For me, i would likely add some red potatoes, definitely onions and maybe subtract the asparagus. I'd probably use the onion salt and garlic as flavoring and skip the Italian seasonings too, although I love do love those flavors in pasta dishes. Just wondering, for variety - can you recommend other seasonings? Fun video, thank you!

      I get so excited to spend time in the garden and see all that is growing. We have lemon drop melons almost ready to harvest. We even have pumpkins and watermelon along with cucumbers, zucchini, squash, tomatoes, and peppers. Hoping the Brussel sprouts will be ready in the next month or so. Unfortunately, the corn ended up getting worms, darn bugs. We are going to try to use plants to protect our produce, so we don't have to use chemicals. Oh, we also have butternut squash growing and should be ready for harvest in the next two weeks. The flavor of fresh veggies is way better than store bought that was harvested early or treated with chemicals to make last longer.
