At Series Ranch, we breakdown and restore all old Series landrovers and newer Defenders. We also do “fit-for-purpose” modifications and outfitting. Part of our scope of services require us to tow, but we also offer offroad rescue and recoveries. We cover the whole of Kwazulu Natal and South Africa if required. We have a Landrover Defender that we use for towing and recoveries that we affectionately call Beasto and have a support vehicle if required, a modified Series 1 affectionately called Sylvester. After a week of waiting, we finally managed to secure the only inlet manifold in the country, and it wasn’t off the shelf, but offered up by a company more than 1000kms away. We installed it, only to develop a misfire due to a leaky injector, so after a short break in the week due to a public holiday, we were able to get an injector service kit and finish the job.

I’ve seen aluminium versions for sale might be a better alternative to replacing with plastic again
To anyone stuggling with this job, don't make the same mistake these guys made and try and cut corners. Remove the plastics on the drivers side of the engine that houses the control unit. This gives you SO much more room. Also, there are 3 8mm bolts holding the EGR on. Loosen these and it will give you movement on the EGR to allow the fuel rail bolts to be removed. Hope this helps someone!

Like most modern cars the manufacturer is 💯 only interested in building a complete new car. (Mad throw away society) If you are repairing a Land-rover/ Jaguar engine with this problem You can successfully repair the manifolds using (💯 best) JB Weld Don’t laugh, i know someone who did this no only for the new manifold crack 30k down the road. He said F- - - that is such a 💩job I just can’t do it again. He smoke tested ID cracked area JB Welded it looks 💩 so much JB Weld But it’s done 73 K since repair 👍 I am worried though his cars. Motorcycle & house is JB Welded together 🤣
I am guessing the injectors needed to removed. I have the exact same problem today. I used soapy washing up liquid to confirm the plastic inlet was cracked. I may give the epoxy method a go first with some foil duct tape to hold it in place whilst it cures. How much did it cost for the parts please and where from?
Just doing the Same thing Now, How did you get the Two 10 bolts out holding the Injector manifold. in you losing the EGR below it ??
annoyingly they have skipped that bit
Apart from burn it..? We had the procedure from jaguar quoting 10 hours with that engine in a Jag xj. It took two of us 8 hours with him having already done the left side. Removed the wipers and scuttle and the secondary firewall in the xj to give access to loosen the egr bolts enough to get the rail bolts out. The rail bolts do not need to be an inch long to hold 5mm thick rail bracket on. If they were 10mm long they’d come straight out saving hours of labour the wankers. French engine made by Peugeot/Ford. £300 aside for the cam cover and they could not supply a pair so we had to go though this shit twice when the second cover finally arrived by which time the right side failed on a trip . It took two weeks for my back to recover. I’m sure these cars give the original owner satisfaction but most Jag and LR owners in the uk consider 100k miles very high do sell them on. Used they are a minefield. Not to mention cam chain tensioner problems with no life expectancy quoted on the cam chain kit. Imagine the labour on swapping that shit out. Opps me. Not to mention the special tools required. And as you can see the chain is at the back. So gear box off Did you drill the 3mm hole in the breather lug btw? In the Jag this fault gives loss of range performance ie similar ang goes into limp mode. It bsickly sees low intake pressure on the effected bank and shuts down

This vehicle only had 170000kms on the clock. I’ve heard that some intakes have cracked at just 14000kms.
These cracks can be fixed in place , use a smoke machine to identify crack , use a tapered grinder to create a grove through the crack length then fill with JB weld . Danke
Interesting, I’ve read that before but haven’t seen any results, short or long lasting. It would be nice to get a review of a repaired manifold.
In UK workshops remove the body up and do the job that way .

Good work guys, I weighed up and decided to let the professionals do it, they reckon 4 hrs per side I’ve got both cracked but I figure at 59 I’m going to loose a week doing them and I need the car to tow. And the aud1000 I would save and have no recourse wasn’t worth it. If they leak or something else breaks it’s on them.👍

God that looks awful to work with. What were you error codes? I’ve got a P0069-85 which keeps coming back. That’s high pressure on inlet manifold absolute pressure sensor - 127kpa.
Apologies for the late response. No error codes. The cream on the top was that the loss of power(crack in manifold) occurred while coasting downhill and only noticeable when pulling off at the next junction.
Looks like a 'kak' job to do, so well done. And there I was thinking D2 V8 coil packs were the worse to get out/in ...
Currently having my Series 3S pick-up converted to a V8 out of a Disco 1, also 5 speed box and transfer case from the same donor car. The original R6 motor went up in smoke
