Worst Pedal Ever? Source Audio Multiwave Distortion, Fender Bassman, and a ton of laughs
Просмотров 1552 года назад
Guitar players, your seach for the perfect tone is over. It's time for the greatest pedal of all time: the Source Audio Soundblox™ (blocks good sounds) Multiwave Distortion. There were some decent, usable sounds in this thing, but you won't be hearing any of them today.
Late night split screen guitar jam with the ES-335 - using Roland 4X Camera & Universal Audio Ox

Second version of a song I originally did in A. I like it better in D. Playing a Gibson ES-335 through a J Rockett Archer overdrive, Xotic SL Drive (except on the dotted 8th note parts), JHS Panther Cub delay, and Strymon Big Sky into a Kustom "The Defender" cheap Fender style amp, while my usual JCM 800 took a break, then out through a Universal Audio Ox Amp Top Box.

Noodling around with a 73 Gretsch Clipper. I mostly used a Keeley Super Phat Mod Overdrive but occasionally switched to an Xotic SL Drive. The old Marshall did most of the work as far as preamp distortion is concerned.

Bogen Challenger CHA 33 1957 + Fender American Stratocaster, Amp Demo/Test

Please excuse the sloppy playing and messy background. It is just a cell phone video. This is a handwired 57 Bogen Challenger. It may still need a rectifier tube, but everything else has been gone through (new caps, replaced 3 bad tubes, 3 prong chord, 1/4" jacks). I'm playing an 80s American Strat with a 90s American Standard Strat neck straight into the amp. Gives a nice Fender Blackface tone...
Quick test of a 1980 G&L F100 guitar, Smoke on the Water-ish progression

Very brief demo of a vintage G&L F100 guitar. The switching system on these things is strange and unique and can take the guitar from a nice crunch to face melting metal tone...without really making much sense (yet). It's an odd guitar, but a fun one to play.
Quick pickup test: Fender Custom Shop Fat 50s Neck Pickup 2013 American Standard Strat

2013 American Standard Stratocaster. Just brought it home and set it up, and it's ready to sell. Trying out the electronics. These came with Fat 50s pickups, and this one sounds fantastic, even plugged into the test amp (which is a Peavey Transtube practice amp on the clean channel. Just imagine how it'll sound when we plug it into the real thing)
Oh Come All Ye Faithful on two strings.

Sorry about all the treble on here. I recorded it with the iPhone mic. Playing my wife's G&L Legacy into a 50 watt Kustom "The Defender" amp with EL34 power tubes (very underrated lower priced amp) & using a BK Butler Tube Driver for a tiny bit of drive with the Electro Harmonix Deluxe Memory Boy for some dotted 8th note delay. The dotted eighths didn't come through very well in the video.

Playing something that just came to me while testing a new speaker at church. I'm using a Line 6 DL4 delay pedal, an MXR Classic 108 Fuzz pedal (but only as a clean volume boost - NO FUZZ), and a 80s DOD Harmonic Enhancer, which just makes for an interesting sound (enhanced treble, similar to a BBE Sonic Maximizer) and gives a little bit of a signal boost. Playing a USA G&L Comanche through a h...

The Indianapolis Crowd Reacts To Peyton Manning's Return
I have one like this, really cool guitar.
You didn't buy it on eBay, did you? You could have my old one. I don't think it's that much of a small world. Those are really cool guitars
You still have that G&L?
Not anymore. It was a fun guitar though.
The most annoying thing to me is how almost everything is so mid ranged and there's hardly any top end
Tons of nasty low mids, and it cuts the highs some. Maybe someone who's really into weird fuzz would like it. I kinda wish I'd kept it around in a drawer or something, for the novelty and occasional laugh.
@@MarcusDugan I like the weird sounds put the frequency response is terrible... 🤮
I have one of these that was converted by a guy named Leftee. He called it the "Boggy IV," and thus it is called the Boggy IV. It's a great amp. It's loud, punchy, warm, has amazingly thick, juicy mids with beautiful, bell-tone highs and a real nice bloom to the notes from the dual rectifiers. I don't think Leftee did anything too crazy with the circuit. It's just a really good 50's Tweed era sounding amp. IMO, for all you modders out there, I hope you look into these amps. They need to be salvaged and kept alive and made useable again, for guitar players. Otherwise they're just going to eventually end up in the landfill
If you modded one of these to something like the Tweed Bandmaster circuit, I bet you'd have a killer-sounding amp.
Sweet! Loved It
I just bought one of these online, exactly like yours, is it awesome?
(edit: I just watched some of, and subscribed to, your channel. That's some nice playing. Looks like you're already very familiar with Gretsch guitars in general) This one is pretty cool. Mine had trouble staying in tune until a put some violin rosin on the body where the bridge rests against it, so the bridge wouldn't try to slide around. It's easy to get it set up to sound good, and it has a nice sound. Mine has a bad tone switch (the one you'd think is the pickup switch actually controls the tone. Gretsch is...different). Overall, it's a pretty nice guitar. Fun to play. I hope you enjoy yours.

Great demo, I have a135 with humbuckers and have always wondered how it compares to a 335, since it was about 1/3rd of the price. The 135 sounds a bit woodier with more pronounced low mids. The 335 a bit more focused sounding and not as hollow, Thanks for posting!
Thanks! The 135 has really grown on me. Just a fantastic, underrated guitar.
what exactly is the difference between a 135 and a 335?
Sonically, not much when you're playing clean. They both have 57 Classic pickups and semi-hollow bodies, but the 135 is a good 5/8" thicker with a mahogany block (335 is maple). I feel like as you play with more and more overdrive, the 135 gets nastier and grittier than the smoother-sounding 335. The 335 is brighter and more snappy to me. Otherwise, the feel is different. The 335 has a bound slim taper 60s neck, while the other is much thicker (not quite a 50s profile, though), and the higher frets aren't as accessible with the thicker body. Overall, though, they really are two guitars that do almost the same thing. It's kind of like having two slightly different best friends, though. One does not necessarily make the other obsolete :)
And they are different colors
They both sound great. Nice playing Marcus
I appreciate that. I felt like the concept was better than my execution. Your positive comment did well to promote your channel though. Nice stuff on there :)
Marcus Dugan us little guys gotta help each other out ;) thanks for the sub. I think if I had to pick it would be the clear top over the blue one.. But in a couple cases the blue guitar sounded better to me. Did you have a preference?
That sounds great! I love the jam....just changes or a particular song? I have one of these and am getting ready to mod it. Did you mod the circuit at all? I'm pumped if that is the sound one can achieve by changing some caps, and throwing some jacks and power cord on. What cab are you playing through? I was thinking of a 1x12 or 2x10 cab of some sort.....ideas?
Get ready, I tend to be long winded, but hopefully helpful. I heard someone do a similar lick, and I was just kind of basing a (somewhat sloppy) chord progression around it and having fun. I tend to go to those octave things a lot when I don't know what I want to do next. No mods to the amp, so far at least. Just caps, cord, and jacks. I think it would benefit from some work to the tone controls. I usually have to play with the treble almost all the way up and the bass almost all the way down. The bass on this thing is ridiculous. That wouldn't be a huge modification, just some resister (?) or capacitor value changes, but I think it would go a long way toward adding some versatility. I've also noticed that it sounds brighter and more dynamic when you turn the phono channel up. It's always sending part of the signal through it, no matter where you're plugged in. I was using a 2x12 cabinet with Warehouse ET-65's, which are like a higher wattage Creamback speaker. Sounds good through a 1x12 too. It's a very loud amp, very Fender-like. If you need to get it to drive at usable volumes, it's probably a strong candidate for a master volume mod (not sure how hard that would be).
Awesome! Thanks for the detailed info. I got my parts today and am going to tear into it later tonight. Did you isolate your 1/4" speaker jack in the back from the chassis or did you ground it to the chassis? Did you use shielded cable on your signal path from the inputs? It appears the mic inputs are already isolated from the chassis. Did you leave it that way? Once I get it up and sounding guitar amp like, I am going to play with the circuit a bit, and the values you have already spoken of. This will be my first PA to guitar amp mod. Thanks!
(apologies for the super delayed response) I have a Fanon-Masco that I did the quick conversion on myself. No isolating or adding of shielded cable on that one. But I took this one to an amp guy, and he may have done things a little differently, but I don't think he did. I actually don't like the way he did a couple of little things. He doesn't normally do mod-type stuff, so this was a little outside of his normal area of expertise (and mine, but that's another story). I'm guessing you're probably done with your amp mod. Did it go well?
