I hope that Skip is wrong about there being no ocean on the New Earth. I prefer to spend eternity on an earth with a sea, as well as with a sun and moon, over one without those things. Besides, weren't those things part of the original creation God called good in Genesis? Why would that change? On top of that, if Adam and Eve had remained obedient and not eaten the fruit, and there had been no fall, would the sea, sun, and moon still one day no longer exist? And would the earth still one day work differently than it does now, with a different atmosphere (another thing I hope isn't true)? I don't care so much for streets made of gold (not that I have anything against gold streets in and of themselves).

We use the terms heaven and earth different than here in the Bible. To the old Testament people heaven is where God dwells, for them this is the temple, and the earth is the holy land of Israel, seas in fact are the Gentile Nations. The new Jerusalem is the Christian church, the old has been destroyed by fire, the new creation, the church has descended from above. Read the whole chapter Jesus is everywhere in that text. And notice, that like the church, there is still good and evil. We think the new heaven is a perfect world but that is not true. We still need to overcome. Chapter 21 is the Church. Unless you are born again you cannot perceive the kingdom of heaven.
