Thanks for your work! Is the harddisk feature also fully compatible with an old TOS v1.02?
@@BalduinOrgMusic Yes. From 1.00 to recent EmuTOS all TOS are supported. May be you have to reset the computer because the old TOS has memory leaks executing applications. But yes, it works with 1.02. Some tech details a the end of this post: sidecartridge.com/blog/2024/04/04/hard-disk-emulation-sidecart/
This has become my favorite Atari st add on. Good work! I was looking to add MP3 file playback (or ogg) to the ST, I'm wondering if that could be done with the sidecartridge?
It just keeps getting better and better 😎 Mike 🇬🇧
9:39 It's always a good practice to start the Atari ST with some floppy disk in the drive to avoid such long boot time.
It’s on purpose to let he speaker do the speech
🤔
Excellent design! Probably the best way to test EmuTOS on real hardware.
Very cool feature, looking forward to try it out :)
Being able to put TOS images directly from the Atari (Floppy, Ultrasatan etc.) to the TOS Emulator is a really cool and useful feature, as you don't have to open your Atari again to do so! 👍
@@TPau65 right! It was always the goal. But it was really hard to code. It took me much more than expected to develop it. Now is time to port the code to other computers.
I never realized that ST monitor on The Computer Chronicles show is different from the ones that hit the market. Prototype?
I think every single piece of hardware in that video is still a prototype
Excellent video, interesting topic and beautiful design 👍
Very interesting. Many thanks.
Is it still not supporting Falcon and TT030?
@@madigorfkgoogle9349 nope. It will be a project for this autumn
does this work with the hardware version 2.10?
Yes! It works on all versions. It’s only a firmware upgrade.
that's a fantastic upgrade! very useful!
👍👍👍
Interesting. I often wondered why nvdi wasnt purchased by atari and intergrated into TOS.
Thank you for the very interesting review on the different TOS versions. It’s amazing how the developers managed to squeeze so much into the ROMs. Cheers Mike 🇬🇧
Absolutely amazing. I can practically hear Tramiel whipping them like rowers on a galley ship!
This is very interesting. I just watched with my dad. His friend has a Atari ST but my dad had a TRS-80.
Trying to add mp3 playing.
I can't get it to boot any disk image . I'm using EMUtos
Sorry, EmuTOS is not supported. Try with any official TOS from 1.00 to 2.06.
@@logronoide Bugger!, Tries to find his old roms lol
Thanks it now works with original rom.
Great video 😎 just finished building mine, can’t wait to see it in action. Thanks Mike 🇬🇧
Some great updates there, many thanks Mike 🇬🇧
Curious. Is there any room for transfer rate improvements (both read and write)?
Yes, there is a pending Pull Request with some enhancenments, and also some future improvements will increase the speed significantly (I hope so! 😉) There is an interesting thread on the Discord server
@@logronoide Awesome to hear that. I'll be ordering one of those nifty cartridges soon, so I can get going on the Atari ST port of my game. Are you located within or without the EU? I'm trying to figure out whether to use my German or Swiss address
Congratulations! Awesome cart! On next project you can try a Jaguar cart
Fantastico Diego. Ayer por fin pude probar esta nueva caracteristicas. It’s awesome!!
This is amazing! So glad I bought one of these! 😊
Brilliant This project gets better and better. 3d printer case design?😢?😅
bad apple!
This guy 😅
Very cool feature! Well done!
Thanks you !
Great video! Thank you for the hints!
Nice. My issue is my pass code is the full 63 chars. I don't think this can be entered via CLI. I put a .wifipass in the root file of SD card (FAT, 4GB). My guess is I need to add some JSON to describe the SSID etc - just the wifipass alone isn't enough. My workaround at the moment is to tether off the phone which has a shorter passphrase - works like a charm!
Try this: Connect to the WiFi as usual, but enter a random password. It won't connect, but it's ok. Then put inside the .wifipass file the 63 chars long password in the root folder. Now power cycle the computer or reset the SidecarT. It should connect to the WiFi network selected but reading the content file from the .wifipass file. If it doesn't work, please let me know on the Discord server so we can troubleshoot your network settings together and identify the cause of the issues.
a nice and cool adition to this already amazing device, would be a key word search option on the browse web server , to quickly finding a game , much like in atari 8bit uno cart .
Can you show how to use SideCart as an HDD drive ?
I don't think it is a HDD. But you can format a Micro SD card to FAT / 4Gb or ExFAT for larger. Create a /floppies for disks and /roms for roms. Copy .st files to the /floppies and many will work. Not all - apparently some bypass BIOS to read/write disk. For HDD I think you need Ultra Satan, Saint or some other device.
Here goes the link to the GEMDRIVE feature of the device ruclips.net/video/QDGnY_9nJnQ/видео.html
This is so awesome. Just ordered mine.... Thanks for your work 🙏😊
It will not work with any software that bypases TOS and talks directly to hardware (a lot of games do). So it is far from perfect I'm affraid.
Correct. Perfection!? This is engineering. If you are looking for perfection, maybe you will find it in a church, mosque or synagogue. Not in a homebrew device.
@@logronoide not really. You can get HDD (emulator) for ST DMA port and floppy (emulator) that connects to floppy cable. That will be perfect and will run 100% of software. Please, do not misunderstand me. I think SidecarT is good devices, but its limitations are not clearly stated by devs.
@@AdamKlobukowski In engineering, perfection is an asymptotic function, an illusion. 100%? My a**.
@@logronoide there are some exceptions :p
@@logronoideI find perfection in my homebrew - but it is 6% alcohol or more :-)

Can you use multi-floppy games?
kind of Automation CD? yes, it can
@@saboteur1123Not multi-game floppies, but multi-floppy games ;) So, can I swap floppy images during gameplay?
@@TzOk ohh ok . I get it now😁
I was wondering if this works with a rasPi 0 board model , without the WiFi model?
@@TzOkthis is what I am searching for today. And if anyone knows how to do this with an external drive I am also interested!
Looking forward to mine arriving!
