Have the crime problems in SB been solved? It is a reason why the city lags behind Ft Wayne.

In the early eighties I lived in Davenport with my mom as she worked on her MA at U of I. My brother and I would drive up the Mississippi to Dubuque as a get away. The red brick buildings left an impression on me. And the surrounding countryside in Wisconsin was green and magical. Taliesin near Spring Green was awesome. Great memories.

Great video, I was born and raised in Madison and now live in Florida but still love the Mad City!

Lifer in GR born '69. GR is not bad, especially in late 90s with the rebirth. Devos and VanAndels (Amway) definitely made a huge imprint among many others. Crime was never that bad. Plenty of things to do. Rich in education, jobs, culture, much more. If people knew how bad the S- curve was (131) they definitely would not complain about how it is today 🤣.

Born and raised in Fort Wayne. So much of all things historical were torn down to make way for the new. Very sad. There used to be many more locally owned businesses - especially retail and food.

a kazoo is not a thing there. the strykers are one of the richest families in america. who do you think pays for the kalamazoo promise. it was a very nice thing to do. the kalamazoo area (kalamazoo county) is a decent place to live.

My parents lived there in 1971. My mom trained at Rockford Memorial hospital.

Thank you, my great grandmother was from here and moved away with my Grandma when she was young. It must have been terrifying to be a single Mom leaving your communal life in that time. She didn't like to talk about living there.

I'm new to this channel, but I wanted to say thank you so much for this, John. My dad's side has been in Dubuque since the 19th century, and we would make the trek from Atlanta to their house on Concord and Marion nearly every winter. They lived right across from the university that my dad attended in the 60s, before which he made it in the local paper for backpacking through Europe (imagine the shock). My great-grandfather was the first man in Dubuque to own a car-- and at least from the story I was told-- he was also the first man in Dubuque to be hit by a car! My grandmother was possibly the first woman to work in banking in Iowa, working at American Trust & Savings from '44-'92. I know I've eaten those caramels a few times, and I have vivid memories of the shot tower, and the Julien Dubuque Bridge that my grandfather helped build after WWII, and Eagle Point, and man I loved riding the 4th Street Elevator when I was a kid. I will get back up there again someday, but in the meantime thanks for the memories!

One Walt Disneys first cartoons is in davenport. He has some graffiti/ a doodle on a wall where he stayed above the meadry downtown
