Do you conserve water in the bathroom? #H2OMoment
Since fresh clean water is a limited resource, it's important that we use it efficiently so that there's enough to go around. Take a look at how Riley discovered their watershed moment by capturing and reusing cold shower water instead of letting it run down the drain. Am I missing something? Last time I was there I didn't remember those islands being there there. So I looked up Echo Park+Cattails, and an article popped up, talking about the "invasive plant" being picked out, so it didn't work?

    I remember when I was a child growing up in Temple City Los Angeles during the rainy season and we would look inside of that square wash way during a heavy rain and it was filled up about 2/3, maybe one half and it would really be flowing with brown water and the interesting thing was there were waves. They would come in increments. About every 30 seconds or so another wave would come. They were roughly 12 in high, all white water. A perfect line going across the entire wash. We used to jump over the safety fence so we could throw things inside and watch it float down the river. I remember once we found an old piece of plywood with a hole in it and we tied a rope to it and threw it in and held on to the Rope just to feel the power of that pool. We were wild kids. We have no business so close to that wash way. Once We snuck down there during the dry season and walked around. It was kind of spooky.

    Thanks hilarious! What rainy season? I haven't seen rain in about 3+ years!

    • @raitchison
      @raitchison 2 года назад

      We have an average of 31 days every year with measurable rainfall. December 2021 was the 3rd wettest on record. If you have a 2000 square foot house and are able to capture all the rain that falls on your roof you'd have turned our 2021-2022 rainy season rainfall into more than 12,000 gallons of captured water

    • @TDeslip
      @TDeslip 2 года назад

      @@raitchison You shouldn’t use ‘we’. I’m in Santa Monica and the rainfall to date this year is 0.15 inches. With most of this drying up on the roof before it would ever accumulate in a barrel. Put the emphasis where it belongs. Nut farming in California uses more water than all the residential usage in the state! Move nut farming out of California.

    • @raitchison
      @raitchison 2 года назад

      @@TDeslip Santa Monica saw 10.94 inches of rain in the 2021-2022 season with an average of 13.45 inches historically. Also for the record it looks like Santa Monica has seen 1.64 inches of rain in 2022. This is measured at the Santa Monica airport via the LA Almanac site. I don't disagree with you regarding where we are using our water, I especially have a problem with all the water used to grow Alfalfa (animal feed), much of that for export. But it's wholly inaccurate to suggest that installing a rain barrel is useless because we don't get any rain, because we do.

    I have a cup next to the bathroom sink. I catch water first. Shut the water off. Moisten the brush. After brushing I rinse with the water in the cup and rinse my brush in the cup. I also have a small bowl in the sink that catches any running water. I add that water into the bucket that catches cold water in the shower.

    Rain Barrels, what an insult, they deserve proper tanks holding 2,000 to 5,000 litre rain water tanks like we do here in Australia. In some US states people even end up in jail or prison for having water tanks while corporations are siphoning The Great Lakes dry. & just exactly why am I the first one to comment on this vid that is now 7 years old? Also isn't Ron Finlay The Gorilla Urban Gardner from LA & performing miracles to transform nature strips to grow food paradise havens.

      +toosexyforthenwo you're right about that second part. we are rather self-centered. however in defense of California's awesomeness- the storm drain system, as well as the freeways, and many other CA innovations, were major achievements of architecture and engineering. it may not be all that interesting to everybody, but the modern world owes a lot to those who built these wonders of the modern world.
