Top tips and info, thank you sir !
Quite annoyed ive kinda find you..watched sparrowhawk video & found it very interesting..annoying because now you will be taking up alot of my time..please take this as a compliment
@@hoot2820 thanks for watching
This is very useful, especially the tip to look for the kingfisher to move his head before diving! It's been a while since trying to catch the moment they enter the water, and I find it really difficult. Thank you! 🙂
The Long-TAILED TIT is found throughout Europe and Palearcttic into Boreal Scandinavia and South into Mediterranean zone. This bird is also seen during the winter months in Northern Japan 🇯🇵.
thank you kevin great little birds just to change subject thank for your time at clunber park todat got hawfinch steve
Stephen well done mate persistence always pays off. nice meeting you too.
Yet another marster class thanks.
Thanks Kevin, lovely little birds- looking forward to your new season series 👍
Most of those images are from hides
And the problem is? The title is finding tawny owls not photographing them. Theses are totally wild owls & you need a hide to photograph them.
What is your take on burst mode? Does it help or hinder beginners and why?
Whether in electrical mode 20 FPS or mechanical 13 FPS for fast action it's best to shoot in short bursts whilst maintaining focus. Beginners may struggle at first but with patience & practice it shouldn't be too difficult. Prepare to have lots of out of focus shots among your images with some in focus. Even top professionals encounter this. Good luck.
@ :: thank you - i enjoyed your video as well
Why slow it down by using an aperture at f8 ??
I was shooting with a Canon RF 100-500 at its widest it's 7.1. stopped down at F8 the lens is at its sharpest. Generally I always shoot at F5.6-F8 for my DOF.
@kevinhatleyphotography Ahh OK, great work. Love the videos
Thank you. About shutter speed and inbody stabilizatio; I've been told, that if i shoot handheld, with speeds faster than 1/2000, i better turn off the inbody stabilization, and only use IBS, with speeds lower than 1/2000. Because the IBS might get crazy togeher with the high speed shutter. (i have canon eos r5). What you think? Thank you again
If your hand holding Id leave your IS on. Generally with modern cameras you need IBS to give you that solid platform when shooting at lower speeds, however, if you have your camera on a tripod it can be detremental to have IBS on especially at lower speeeds as your IBS will be looking for movement to counter. Hope this helps.
@kevinhatleyphotography thank you, it helps. Let me see if i get it right; When hand held, i live IS on, even when i shoot with speed higher than 1/2000?. Or better; Handheld, IS is on, at any speed, lowest and highest speed? Thanks again
@@mikegordonbrasov161 basically I leave IS on when hand holding. I only turn it off if using low shutter speeds when on a tripod as the camera IS searches for movement. I shoot with the Canon R5 also.
Best instructions, step by step I have come across till now. Thanks a lot.❤
This doesn’t explain anything white take it right that will blow out all the highlights on subject etc say you have a swan with a dark back ground you need to use minus compensation to retain detail in feathers etc same for bird in the sky you need to use positive compensation to bring the bird out so it’s not just a black dot on the photo
Luke as i said in the videeo at 10:50 - 11:20 any automatic mode the camera will expose to middle grey. Therfore bright subjects will be under exposed & you will need to add compensation to the right of the meter & vice versa for a dark subjects to achieve a good ezxposure of your subject.
@ oh I see Kevin thank you for clearing that up I’m going out with the camera tomorrow for some bird shots I’m going to try this out if it’s bright back ground I will add compensation if it’s a dark back ground I will minus compensation I will give that a try and see if I get any better exposure on my bird photos
@lukeyoneshot6040 don't expose for the background expose for the bird.
@ now that’s a golden advice I’ve been watching videos on exposure compensation and they say if it’s a dark back ground bright subject you need to minus compensation etc I will try exposing for the bird if it’s a bright bird I’ll add exposure if it’s a dark bird I’ll minus no one’s ever said it as simple as that before Kevin they over complicate it
I like to practice at the skeet field...that's 125 flying targets in a round of skeet...incoming targets, crossing targets, etc. The most difficult are close targets coming straight at the photographer. Practice, practice, practice!
This is a great video and one of the best explanations on how to take wildlife photos on RUclips. Delivered in that military style. Really looking forward to trying these tips out.
@@zamalek1235 thanks for watching 👍

@@C.Priesty thanks for watching REgards.

Thx for the vidéo ! Happy new year from France.
HNY & thanks for watching.
Thanks enjoyed it
Great informative video. Especially for beginners. I think you mean to keep your sensor parallel to the subject, not perpendicular.
yes very good advice
Thanks for adding to my new hobby
hello, and a HAPPY NEW YEAR to you. Sorry but I have a question, complete newbie question. I have watched you video and you mention DxO but haven't used that in this Lightfoom Classic tutorial. I have Dx0 PL8 and therefore have a good denoise facility. Would you export to Dx0 at the same step (ie when you denoise in LR) and then bring back into LR to complete all steps or would you export to Dx0 last before exporting the file?
@@Sarah-g6k firstly thanks for your questions & HNY. I import into DXO first & Denise my images before exporting to LR where I then do all my adjustments. I don't use LR for denoise. Hope this answers your question.
Thanks!
Very good video. Thanks
Glad you liked it!
Thank you for your informative video. I have to say, the gannet image is wonderful.
@@SkylarkFields thanks.
Great tutorial, thanks 👍
A very enjoyable and informative video, thanks for sharing.
Well thought out video. Knowing and understanding your camera gear will yield good images. Have a happy new year to you and your lovely ones 👍

Thanks Kevin, I'm that one person. I've been doing bird photography for about a year now ( as a good guesser) and now after watching your vidsI think I'm getting an handle on things. Keep up the great work & videos.
Great video Rob. Really enjoyed the banter between you both. It doesn't always need to serious!
Thanks, Kevin. I'm just starting out in my quest to photograph Red (and hopefully Black) Grouse here in Renfrewshire.
Fiona, good luck in your endeavours to photograph grouse.
The images look nice and bright. Are you using artifical light? Is it a flash?
great video and great shots
Another enjoyable and instructive video. Well done Kevin. PJI
Thank you for this lesson and tips. Solid video well done!
Very nice 👍 good information
I have followed that exact strategy with other birds Kevin. And it works. For years I tried to film Splendid Fairy Wrens casually, and the best I could get was half a second of good footage. We live on a rural property and have several Fairy Wren families nesting there. They are shy and elusive birds and even though one family frequented our vegetable garden I never got quality footage until I decided to follow another family daily for several months. I learned their behaviour and their calls, and now I can predict how they think. It has enabled me to get footage I wished for, and I think more than that. Your advice very apt Kevin👍
Better is impossible. Thanks from Portugal.
Hi mate can set these cameras to continuously record. Cheers
@@rabsithekid different models offer different options some can others can't.
We regularly have Tawnies outside our window. Have been lucky to see them twice. How close by will they roost?
