This fight has everything for me, honestly. First time FromSoft player, and Sekiro was my second FS game (first being dark souls 1) so I had really little to no idea the kinds of shit FromSoft would pull on me. That was until I got to this fight on my first blind playthrough. The beginning horns blaring loudly as these beast of an ape slowly turns to face you was so incredibly badass and terrifying at the same time. Not to mention his attacks and movements. It really does feel like you’re fighting a gigantic ape, cuz he’s ripping ass right in your face and then throwing mounds of his own shit at you. Just as an ape normally would. Favorite boss fight in all FromSoft games

Genichiro is just a really well written antagonist character. His fight with Wolf isn't just about revenge or a test of skills between warriors. No, it is also a battle of ideals, because both were truly fighting for what they believe are the right thing. They have their own reasons to get what they want, and they won't give in to doubts. Its not just a clash of blades, but also a clash of wills. This fight is easily a 10/10 in terms of lore and narrative.

While I do find Way of Tomoe’s ost to be pretty awesome, I absolutely ADORE phase 1 Geni. The mysterious side of this theme, contrasted by the pure triumphant heroism that just screams “No burden is too great for the sake of Ashina-”. I can just feel Genichiro’s devotion, his love, his undying will to protect his land and his people from any to all who appose that of the Ashina, though he’s willing to shed his humanity- he’s a true leader in my eyes.
