This was during a Gowanus Canal canoe trip with Brad Vogel on August 28, 2018, into the Sixth Street Basin with a huge oil slick coating the water. It was like entering Jurassic Park in the heart of the city. Floating on the water, hearing train and car horns in the distance, was almost surreal.
