I was one of the principal violist next to Peter Pfuhl in the SSO from 1986 until 88. Bob was still playing in the section. I thought his viola was very special because of the unusual shaping of the ribs. Bob was a perfect gentleman of the old school, a lovely guy. If we ever meet I'll tell,show, you one of his jokes (that need pantomime)

Bravo Ben, your playing of this Ney prelude has exactly the virtuosic drive and ease that I miss in Tamestit's recording (also on youtube). Bob Hume's old A.E.Smith viola, which I see on the photo sounds also great!
