Rodknock Rhett

Добавлен 25 апр 2011
Literally named after my luck with Brenda, my Oldsmobile Bravada, Rodknock Rhett is a place for me to express my obsession with cars/trucks. The channel is small now. But growing. Sit back and enjoy as I slowly revive my "collection"!
Collection status: A work in progress as is the channel itself! Follow me on Instagram @rodknock_rhett and on Facebook (Rodknock Rhett) as well as the community tab for faster updates. Especially given how things are going with my life at the moment hindering my ability to make content.
The Kids:
Brenda: Awaiting windage tray for the oil pan.
Eddie: Currently set off to the side due to life issues.
Big Bertha: More sad news with some hope hopefully from a rust repair shop here in Ohio.
Neil: Clutch dumps and smiles. Needs exhaust and the table “re-installed”.
Sally: Awaiting intake swap to hopefully fix misfire.

My scratch and dent special Mustang is back!
Sally is back and ready to terrorize the streets again!. I am very surprised on how quickly she got done. I am learning that for now, Sally is the scratch and dent special Mustang. 2018 Ecoboost parts being installed on a 2017 GT aside, the original accident shows with how the bumper was mounted.
The body shop struggled with the lack of the original GT bumper. This bumper is a single piece and they found the second piece still crunched into the car. Crazy. The bumper is now welded to the internal piece and while it's not straight, it isn't going anywhere.
Sally still turns heads and is as yellow as she was new. That's all that matters! Thank you for watching this quick update!

Not only did they do that, they managed to ugga dugga the oil filter access panel built so tight that it not only nearly rounded off, it stripped the threads on the k member a bit. ...

With not even 20,000 miles on her, Sally has not only sat at a dealership for nearly a year, but exchanged ownership multiple times before being wrecked, sold at an auction, and rebuilt. My secret to removing a seized brake line fitting Brenda progress!
It's the intake manifold , I just bought a gt350 intake , if they are all on the same bank it's the intake manifold.
@@bigboom4684 yeah, I ended up getting an intake for really cheap but haven't had time to mess with it due to life complications. It never did get worse and half the time it won't do it. I probably won't even change it into next Spring since the car is basically stored for Winter.
@RodknockRhett it will usually only misfire cruising below 3200 rpm
@ mine does it at exactly 63 MPH. Can't remember what RPM that is at but go a little slower or faster and it goes away immediately. Even when it is doing it, you can't tell until you look at the gauges. It must not be fully broke yet but right at the edge.
@RodknockRhett mine never even broke was just sticking on the passenger side
@ that honestly tells a lot though on why the rods snap. If it's sticking, I bet there's some serious torque being put through it to keep it moving. I'd bet mine is sticking exactly the same way.
My check engine light came on after adding some
That's hard to believe. What car/truck do you have?
Status update ?
Almost ready to start on the oil pan. Progress has been slow due to life complications in the last two years. It will definitely eventually be done.
Do you recommend a Camaro zl1 or mustang Gt????
@@davidsalazar8830 it’s pretty hard to say no to a Camaro ZL1 since it is a higher trim over the Mustang GT. But, the Coyote is a stronger stock motor that doesn’t take a whole lot to make big power. Though, a cammed pushrod V8 would sound way more mean. It’s really a preference of looks and sound. I highly recommend driving both and deciding as I haven’t driven a Camaro yet. I nearly bought a 5th gen SS though because I think it is an amazing looking and sounding car. But then I saw Sally…. The rest is history.
Did you ever finish this swap? I about lost my vision searching for follow up vids through all the Ford and Lincoln videos...
The swap is currently in progress. I've been dealing with a lot of life events since I started it so progress has been slow. Here is the link to Brenda's playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLZ91wRhPrZ0fss66mtK5G3IAvQH17HZBs&si=ZS-SLCKMVvumcKQx Currently, I'm almost ready to install a Milidon oil pan. Then, comes steering shaft and AC box. Next will be a wiring harness from Current Performance. Then finally, flexplate and motor mounts. It's a big project for a rookie like me.
Minor kustoms also did the work on the roof of my 21 gt, great work for the price

My bad. I have a habit of jumping through different apps too fast. I thought I was commenting on a Buick video with the GM3800 . The panther platform is equally reliable and those are the only cars I will buy are the Ford Panther Platform or the GM G Platform. I refuse to buy a new car. I enjoy having money in the bank.
Congrats. I got catching up to do but I only drive 3500 miles a year lol
There was probably nothing wrong with your motor to begin with you probably had a worn out harmonic balancer pulley that needed replaced. You likely ruined the motor because you kept driving around with that bad pulley which can eventually cause damage to your crankshaft and rods if you don't replace that pulley
@@deanfarr3249 nope. This was in fact spun bearing. Initially caused by wrist pin failure. There was a bad batch of 4.3s that suffered this. Every shop I took it too rulled out the harmonic balancer. I personally crawled under it and listened around. The noise came from the backmost section of the oil pan. I nearly thought it was a flex plate issue. I just kept driving it because I got tired of fixing it. This was motor 3. The first two where different failures that still lead to spun bearings.
Oh wow I never knew this and I was told these were die hard GM motors just like the 3800 but I guess not
@@deanfarr3249 they are. Just a bad batch were used in between 98-99. I got a 4.3 with 277k on it in my Silverado.

@@Crippledinvegas I almost bought a Park Avenue Ultra before I found Big Bertha. The W body cars are solid too. My Imapala was. The 3.8 is unstoppable. Even with a spun bearing.
Mine is doing the same thing took it to ford they did the same thing I’m almost 100% positive it’s the intake manifold and they don’t know what their looking for on it that’s a really common issue with 2015-2017 mine runs exactly like yours
@@russellmitchell7219 I have an update video coming. It's for sure the intake on mine. It has gotten significantly worse and the car lacks low end torque. This is a dead giveaway that the IRMC is stuck. It runs great up top and still pulls perfect once the RPMs get up. But down low even in first gear, it is noticably sluggish despite not misfiring. I'll have an update video coming soon on it. Common issue on the gen 2 Coyote. Unsure what I'm doing yet.
Yeah I’m going to do a gt350 intake manifold, throttle body, and intake and go e85
@@russellmitchell7219 I wish we had e85 here. I'm also thinking of a GT350 intake but also keeping it stock and doing boost later on. Unsure yet. I bet your car is going to be a different animal once it's tuned on e85!
Drop the update vid
@@russellmitchell7219 getting ready to do that tomorrow. Been really busy. I'll be pulling the intake and showing where it's broke. Then getting into the plans on what I'm doing to fix it as cheap as possible since I'm pouring most of my budget and time into Brenda.
Was u in Yellowstone
Some say I was. But I don't recall.🤔
It probably is the intake manifold/IMRC valves. Common issue on your 2017.
@@nowayjose596 definitely thinking the same. The car is just begging me to put a blower on it. It be like that.🤷♂️ Still rulling out the cheaper fixes.
@@RodknockRhett I feel ya but there are too many people with the exact same symptoms/codes that turn out to be the IMRC valves for that not to be the next thing you should check. Even the Ford dealership will check plugs, swap coils (like you did), then pull the manifold (in that order). If you do a search on here for "2015 Mustang GT 5.0L broken driver's side IMRC valve shaft" I bet that's exactly what you'll find. The reason it doesn't throw a code for the valve position and looks ok in live data is bc the ECU can only see that the actuator has moved to the correct position - it doesn't know that the shaft is broken and therefore the valves aren't actually moving in accordance with said actuator. Just trying to save you some time/frustration, but hey, maybe you'll get lucky and I'm wrong 😉
I would check the ignition leads for continuity. Check and clean all electrical points. Connect them to a multimeter, bend the lead in different spots to see if there is a possible broken wire that is intermittently touching on/off. Check that they are the correct spark plugs for the vehicle, having to regap them is a red flag. Vacuum leaks, fuel pump, filter, compression, bad fuel, timing could be slightly out which can throw a misfire code but not a timing code etc etc. Will be a very long process of elimination.
@@bluenaite yeah, spark plugs are eliminated for sure. I'm going straight to the fuel system next. The car is pretty new to have wiring issues. I'm going from easy to hard. Perhaps there's a mouse living in this thing? Those are the original plugs. The fact that it is on just those two cylinders eliminates timing. These Coyotes are super sensitive to timing since it's variable. Definitely, thanks for the list! It will help a lot of people out. Compression is one thing that scares me. Hopefully I never have to test it.
Is that oil all over your spark plug threads?
No. I thought the same thing at first.

Got an 08 Crown victoria police interceptor and last summer one day I drove about 200 miles straight. About 85% of the drive I'd say I averaged about 75-90mph, maybe with 5-10 acceleration pulls in there and being stuck in stop and go traffic for the other 15% of the drive. When I did the math afterward it came out to 27.5mpg so I definitely belive this, these cars are insanely well tuned and efficient for what they are, i want to say the police transmission tuning and 3.27 rear gearing might even aid that efficiency a little. Get great gas mileage, reliable, the engine loves to scream and if you just so happen to find yourself in that situation you'll know you can jump a curb at 50mph without skipping a beat or god forbid take a 70mph impact to the front or rear with pretth much guaranteed survival. Long live the Ford Panther platform.
My last Panther, my Grand Marquis took a combined impact speed of roughly 80MPH and I got out of the car with a few scratches. They’re incredible tanks. Big Bertha was the very next car I bought for a reason.
Such a shame when stuff like that happens, but I'm glad you're okay and that what's said about these cars does ring true.
Either of yours come with a limited slip rear end? I have an 01 F150 that one wheel peels and i definitely prefer being able to spin both tires in my crown vic.
@@xOGKuSh Big Bertha is an open diff. One wheel peels all day. It does drive really well in the snow though even with an open diff. Heavy cars and good tires just grip really well. My Grand Marquis was limited slip. It griped real well.
@RodknockRhett yeah that's my experience too, I just try to keep the salt off mine. The front fenders have the some rust, the usual. I should probably add my car has had pretty much replaced on it you can replace engine wise, a lot of which I did just cause I enjoy the car and the car is fully changed over to Amsoil fluids in the rear diff, transmission and engine oil. That I'm sure plays a big role in why I get the mileage I get. I have a friend with a 2010 and he doesn't get anywhere near what I get but he doesn't maintain his much.
People who are middle class and buy new cars in todays economy and quality are insane.
I mean I did it but it was not really “new” in a big sense and definitely isn’t being daily driven. That’d be Sally, my Mustang. I can’t comprehend those that do it for their daily driver.
I did an LPG conversion to mine, now it's half the cost, 13-14 bucks for 100km in fully urban conditions, used to be 25-28 with only gasoline. Town Cars 4 life man.
Man, you should post a video on that car. That's amazing. Really cool.
I agree. Plus you are handy and can do many repairs yourself and the Town Cars have low cost parts.
i dont remember if i spilled my guts on my repair quotes but for my rusty townie i had $1500 for new rockers, $450 for fixing the a pillars, $200 for a hole in the floor, $1100 for the roof, and $400 for hole in the back. i stuffed fiberglass and epoxy in my fenders for pocket change. now before anyone replies that this car ain't worth it, you're goddamn right that i could've bought a less rusty town car. but i'm a sentimental SOB and i like my car.
I'm not worried about the body right now. I just want to patch the frame. Cosmetic stuff can come in the future. I've been looking for a Town Car to replace this one. They're getting expensive. I'll be spending at least $2k for one with a good frame. They're getting expensive.

Its a shame what the rust belt does to our vehicles... You can delay the inevitable with undercoating or regularly getting your car washed somewhere you can get underneath with the pressure washer but mother nature always wins in the end. True testament to how well these engines and drive trains were designed that they can outlast the body of the car. Usually its the other way around, typically something catastrophic happens with the engine or transmisson well before the body is unsafe to keep driving.
Yeah, it is sad. Especially the fact that we still haven't found something that can simply melt ice and not destroy vehicles. I wish I would've undercoated but I didn't. I regret it. This car has been a great machine.

my current car will do 40 MPG all day long on the highway and 30 is easily achievable around town. Back when I had my big SUV though, this was how I drove to eek every last drop of momentum out of the gas. The brakes are your enemy lol
