Best Four Mallet Marimba Solos for Beginners
Because of each brother trying to "one-up" each other, I believe they made both Zildjian and Sabian better and hence, the two best cymbal manufacturers in the world! Competition does that...brotherly rivalry takes it to the new heights!
What is your favorite Frank Erickson piece?
Thanks for the video.
This def deserves more views it’s so helpful
Okay, i play 4 mallets for 1 year now, and i am learning Homo Balcanicus by Zivkovic, and i've never played any piece from this list
I played Yellow After the Rain for my first 4 mallet solo in middle school and was able to take it to state S&E.
This is so helpful. You explained it in a way that I understand and will remember! Thank you!
You're welcome! I'm glad it was helpful!
tampani ranges
I am a bass player and my bow is always in the way, real lifesaver!!
What is your favorite piece by Carol Brittin Chambers?
Like your mood. Explanation's rhythm are just perfect. Thanks for sharing.
thank you sir
You’re welcome!
I played Yellow After the Rain around a month ago at state. Definetly think it's a good one to start with.
Hi! My school just had a gift from some local organization and we got a few instruments for our School's marching band. One of them is a Marimba, around 3 octaves long i think? Just had them a few months ago, and i was soo happy to have the skill for it, since our marching band officers told me that I was the one who's gonna play the marimba from now on. Just came across your video and thought it was very helpful, since i still feel new around my Marimba despite using it for many band practices. I didn't know that a Marimba was basically a percussion instrument so i guess that makes me a percussionist? Still have no idea about that one. Just wanna say thank you for creating a video about these cool instruments, definitely will check out ur other vids man! -sending love from the Philippines 🎉
I've been a musician for 30yrs and I've never heard this referred to as the "F clef".
Ummmmmmm yes, good info. But you put the cart b4 the horse. It's named (not nickname) "F clef" bc the SYMBOL ITSELF is a modified LETTER F!! (same with G clef, whoahhh)
Mmmm bass clef is more the nickname for the F Clef, especially as the clefs can be moved along the staff to account for the ranges of various instruments. Treble clef is the nickname for the G Clef, and alto clef is the nickname for C Clef. This is basic music theory.
The C-clef, too, can be put on any line, and in choral scores older than 1900 frequently is. It is "alto" only on the middle line (where violas, too, use it), but first line up for sopranos, second line down for tenors, etc. The G clef can be moved, too, in earlier music.
sea clef👴
🌊🌊🌊
Why not B-clef
It’s so cool seeing to see how we each as musicians can interpret and play the same piece so differently! I love this! Great work!
Agreed! I love watching/listening to other performers interpretations!
Rain Dance in high school was my first solo. 😂
I met him today
That's awesome!
Micheal Sweeney is the goat when it comes to middle school band music
First 4 mallet solo I tried to learn: between zero and one from the book mile marker zero by ben wahlund. It was so bad, I played it for comments only at solo and ensemble. First 4 mallet solo I could play well: A cricket sang and set the sun by Blake Tyson. First performed it at my audition for the Hayes school of Music at App. State 2 weeks before I took it to S&E. I didn't get into Hayes School of Music. However, I used Cricket for my 4 mallet audition piece for UCF, FSU, and JU. Didn't get into UCF or FSU, but JU gave me a $47K fine arts merit scholarship.
Yo I love you videos keep it up bro 👍
Appreciate it! Any specific videos you want to see?
Maybe a video on Egon Wellesz
I have Ghost Garden. I have not performed it. I only have 3.3 octave marimba so it’s harder trying to find solos in range.
How long do the Earasers last if wearing every day for playing musical instruments at home?
They last a long time. I would probably still have my original pair if I didn't lose them. There are ways to clean them too, so if you maintain them well, they should last years.
How do they work with repeats and first and second endings?
If a multi-measure rest occurs within a repeated section or 1st & 2nd ending, you would also repeat the multi-measure rest. Let me know if you have a more specific example in mind!
@@ZacharySavinsky no but like notating it. I’m composing and I have an instrument resting during a first and second ending
Yellow after the rain. Bach cello suite in GM. First mvt. Love the Chanel.
hi dear friend good evening how are you? excuse me is there a glockenspiel instrument but it's first note to be c 4 in the middle octave and this model of glockenspiel instrument that you have spoken about it it's first note is almost in fa and sol 5 octave? and please guide/lead me.
Best piece he made is equinox
Interesting video. I'd like to suggest a composer profile video feature of Robert W. Smith.
James Swearingen, Paul Lavender, Johnnie Vinson, Michael Brown, Roland Barrett, Victor Lopez, and Robert Sheldon are also well-known and accomplished composers.
Thank you for the suggestions! Is there a specific detail about composers that you like to learn?
For practice it sounds ok, but definitely wouldn’t buy it for a school/concert setting
My band played All Things So Wondrous by him last year at the Midwest Clinic
That’s awesome! Never heard that piece until you commented it… I really enjoyed it!
What is your favorite piece by William Owens?
1st to comment also great
I am a director of a band in Honduras and I am interested in this information

What is your favorite Michael Sweeney piece?
Imperium
God he was a big part of my highschool life
Thanks for putting this out, you get a thumbs up for the 'bonus' remark
Hi Zach, I agree with your choices here, but I’d like to see a list compiled as the next level of 4 mallet solos, maybe classified as intermediate following Yellow After the Rain Thanks Alan
Bruh I love this
That's cool to know
4 octave old (but tuned and intact) rosewood v this... What would you choose and why?
Same price
Although the opportunity to have a rosewood instrument is appealing, I would probably still choose a 4.3 octave padouk instrument over it. Simply because of the octaves. There's just not a lot of repertoire written for a 4 octave range, compared to the amount that is written for a 4.3 octave range.
What is your favorite Sousa march?
Really nice video! My favorite Sousa march probably has to be Washington Post March. I got to play the real version in my high school's wind ensemble (I was doing trombone at that time). Sousa marches are incredibly fun to play, and a joy to listen to. 🙂
I love the Washington Post March!
I just dropped by to get basic information, as a friend just gave me a student xylophone. But, as you know, the amount of knowledge shared here needs more attention than a drive -by viewing. Very impressive with your vast knowledge base, the overall presentation of the video, and most of all, your confidence level as a commentator. Because I'm older,(61 complete revolutions around the Sun) I can't help but think about how proud your parents must be. I certainly am...(& subscribed) ☯️🌜🎆🎹🔎🥁🎶
This is perfect. I’m going to show this to my students 👍
Is the accessory shelf and the extenders compatible when used simultaneously on the Manhasset Voyager music stand, or must one or the other be used?
