A very good question and in truth not something I've tried. But if I was to put money on it, hybrid mode is defined by the key that it's set to but the 'hybrid' part means that the harmonies will be a bit more free than just the 'key' version. What I'd do however is to create two presets of the keys you want so you can switch between them (or three if you don't want the harmonies on all the time), that'd work just fine!

Honestly, I probably would still. It's reliability has proven itself if nothing else as it hasn't let me down once over the past 8 years of regular use, and it has all the features I need. I tend to use the harmony feature little and often (see livestream for example!) but it sounds great to me still. But it's all personal preference of course!

Hi! Thanks for the video. Speaking of less is more, when it comes to a guitar-voice setup, sounding robotic doesn't seem appropriate. Do you think there's a way to sound natural with lower settings (or maybe they're already low in your example)? That's my last holdout before I buy it.

@ hey there! Interesting you say that, you can change the pitch of the harmonies by raising them or lowering them for sure. In the video, this is the default setting that I’ve just got used to with my voice, but playing around with that might give you a more natural sound (or unnatural if you want that too!). Hope that helps!

Thanks very much! Guitar is tuned one step down, verse: em, g, d, c(variation), asus2 / pre chorus: f, g, a minor, / chorus: asus2, f - I think that’s all correct off the top of my head in my version, should be enough to get you started at least - happy playing!

@@jack1234356best of luck in your choice! From what I’ve learned of the TC Helicon and what I know of the VE-8, I’d imagine (as with most things) it’s personal preference. I will say however that the VE-8 is like a Swiss Army knife; guitar and vocal FX, reverbs, looper, different output, battery option, guitar tuner and more!

Hey! You can either set the pedal to perform harmonies in a specific key (using the KEY button), or follow along with the chords if there is a guitar/other instrument running through it (AUTO button), or a combination of both called Hybrid. You don’t need an instrument running through it for a the harmony to work, as by default it’ll set itself to KEY if it can’t detect an instrument, so just make sure you input the right key. Can’t go wrong. I hope that helps!

Yes, that’d be cool. But it’s only through the smaller button, however, you could set up a preset with it on and cycle back and forth, that’d work fine!

I would use it as a ‘live performance’ capture however, not a professional recording set up. The latter I suppose it could be if you used a condenser mic as it has phantom power, but regardless yes it can be connected via USB if you don’t have an audio interface

The unit has both Auto and Key feature; Auto it recognises the chords and harmonises accordingly, Key is a set parameter to perform in in set key. Hope that helps!

Yes you can use it just for vocals, how to find the key however is a very technical musical question, so I’d say google it if it’s a well known song!

I had a similar problem which went away, but I put it down to a connectivity/hardware issue. I don't work for Boss myself, but I'm sure they must have a repairs section on their site. Sorry I can't be more help!

You can connect speakers directly with via the XLR output, or the jack outputs. Hope that helps!

You can EQ the guitar and vocals separately, I’m not sure about global EQ but possibly, it’s a unit that keeps on surprising me!
