I thought the bear family had gone into the den for good but turns out they're still awake! I'm thrilled to have captured them out and about in the snow! Check out the surprise visitor at the start of the video!

The last den update of 2024. These videos are from the last 2 weeks. Only the mother and one cub venture out of the den to drink some rain water from the rocks. A different female bear with a single cub shows up and hangs around the area for about 30 minutes before actually entering the den! Here's a bunch of footage I put together from this past week at the black bear den! The bears are staying in the den for longer periods of time and generally only coming out mid-day when the sun is at it's warmest. I'm guessing that in another week or two they'll be tucked in for good.

A week ago I discovered a bear den that belongs to a bear family I have been documenting since August. These 3 cubs were born last winter but have grown quickly this year! They have started spending the last few nights inside of the den and generally come out for a few hours each day.
