Sailing Waikare
Добавлен 18 дек 2020
I am embarking on a 6 month double handed round-trip of the UK in my Sadler 29ft sailing boat to fulfil a dream and raise money and awareness for charity.
I hope to stop at many RNLI lifeboat stations as we circumnavigate and catch up with some of the brave, selfless volunteers.
You can help support the RNLI via my just Giving pages here tinyurl.com/3255xdst for the RNLI
and here tinyurl.com/3e3eywb4 for the British Heart Foundation
Alternatively, just type in “Waikare” on the Just Giving website to go to either charity page.
Thank you for your support.

Sailing around Britain anti-clockwise in a 29ft sailboat. We now reach the Kent coast and welcome my son Tom and friend Max for a long weekend aboard. Rye runs out of water, Max falls out of his bunk at 2am as the yacht settles on the Harbour mud at a funny angle. Dover Marina looks shiny and new in the autumn sunshine. Ramsgate is a welcome return to the east coast of England as we start to ge...

After strong wind warnings it was time to push on as weather conditions improved. Our time in the Solent would be limited this time but the places and people we met more than made up for it.

Just found your videos enjoyed watching. Have to say though bangor town had long since died the centre and loads of shops have all closed now which is a real shame safe travels
Thank your Sara and I’m glad you’ve found and enjoyed. We were lucky to see the bands parade through Bangor and received great kindness from the local people 👍
Good episode, just around here is where we had to get rescued by the RNLI , glad you did better than us !
Thank you for your great feedback for this episode. We waited awhile to make the journey and it was still very rough in places. Glad you were able to call on the RNLI for help, they are a wonder set of brave and selfless people. 👍
My home waters
Lovely part of the world and we received a fantastic reception at Burnham 😊
Congratulations a fantastic voyage and a great cause. Please can i ask what you used to film your videos?.
Thank you @shaun2381. Glad you enjoyed the video. I bought an iPhone. 13 especially for the circumnavigation and very glad I did as the video and picture quality were exceptional. The Videos did take a huge amount of memory but the iMovie app was very easy to use for editing. Hope that helps and thank you for your positive feedback
Terrific job guys, followed you all the way. Congratulations for completing your journey and fundraising activities. 🎉
Thanks so much, glad to have you onboard and pleased you have enjoyed the adventure 👍
Congratulations from 4,098.69 nm away. Job well done. You've shown the way.
Many thanks for the positive comments @romeowhiskey glad you enjoyed the trip. 👍
Wonderful sailing and a fantastic effort for the charities. So where to next? 🎉😂
Thank you for all your support and kind comments Fiona. Wonderful journey of a lifetime, the Scillies still await us- tune in again soon 😅
Congratulations guys! 🎉 I’m sure you’re enjoying a well earned rest. As you said - memories that will last a lifetime.
So true Derek, thank you for such kind comments and supporting us through this journey 👍
My first sailing was on the Thames (in rhe 80's), from Greenwich Yacht Club (not as nice as Catherine's Dock) on a relatives 21' Dufor...very tricky , with lots of hazards you'll never come across in open water, as well as violet ships etc...i sail in the Bristol Channel now, not as nice as the Solent etc... Didn't know about the Montgomery wreck... Good luck with all your fundraising and thanks for the video
Thank you for your positive feedback Marc. We didn’t have enough time to see much of the Bristol Chanel when we left Milford Haven for Padstow so I will have to come back there 😊
Busy down that east water stretch isn't it! Gerald's loving the sunsets...trying to get me to Mersea island 😮
Glad you enjoyed the video Fiona. Mersea Island is definitely worth a visit or three 👍
Loved this it made me cry with pride!
Hank you Emma, it was a very special journey leg. More to come.🙂
❤
Another lovely film! Was such a beautiful day visiting you on Wakaire xx
Thank Fiona for your lovely feedback and for helping celebrate our arrival in London ❤
brilliant 👍
Thank you Fabien for your positive feedback, always a pleasure
I think he means from Wales to England, lol.
Yes, definitely should have said “Wales to England”. In my defence, slight brain blur after one rough crossing and two very early starts 😊
@@neilmarshall3942 No problem, I can be a bit paranoid about this kind of thing and I have slight brain blur most days.
Good stuff! Safe travels. 👊🏻
Thanks! James 👍
Loving the content been following along since Scotland. We just brought are first boat and wanting to ask what’s your experience with a bilge keel in the heavier seas you’ve experienced. We are beginners and have been told not to go bilge keel but we have found a beautiful snap dragon and looking forward to getting her out next season on the east coast
Thank you for following our journey around the UK. Glad you are enjoying the videos. As a cruiser, I love having bilge keels as it provides a level of security if making soundings (also call going aground apparently 🤭) Waikare has been super stable. Enjoy your new yacht and I wish you fair winds ahead.
@@neilmarshall3942 well thank you for getting back to me. I wish you well on the rest of the journey. When are you estimating coming past the Essex coast ?
There is a slight time lag Terry on these videos so timing is somewhat behind
Lovely! Straightforward home strait xx
Thank you for your positive feedback 😊. Nearly in the home leg
Glad to see you have nearly completed your Round Britain Chris Salcombe coxswain/mechanic 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you Chris, it was an honour and a great pleasure to meet you. Nearly home
I love Rye!
🌟 'Promosm'
Safe travels!
My old sailing ground I miss it very much. I was in a 1980 Sadler 32. I don't know what auto help you are using but I have my two old ones that may help you out Raymarine 1000+ and a 2000+ that I think is on its way out your welcome to both if you can use them
Thank you for your comments and offer. I have a sea feather wind and and a tiller pilot autohelm so very much happy with them on this trip so far. A great gesture so thank you. The Sadler 29 and 32 are closely related in size and space I am led to understand. The S32 has a wider deck space I think.
Yes, very beamy and has no center cleats, so challenging sometimes to dock. we sailed her for 14 years from Lymington to Italy fantastic boat @@neilmarshall3942
This is so amazing!!
Thank you so much for your kind message, glad you enjoyed it Pennybelle - welcome aboard 👍
Close to the Bill is best. Why waste so much time going the long way round? Used the inside passage dozens of time. Just follow the locals.
Lovely sunrise! Not seen one of those for sometime 😂
Looks beautiful in that neck of the woods. Lovely peaceful sailing 😊
Many thanks! Fiona, it really was peaceful and relaxing 😎
Watched this on the tele with Brekke. She said “this is so calming” ☺️
Glad you enjoyed this episode Fabien and Brekke. We had a great time exploring some of the beautiful rivers in Cornwall and Devon. 👍
Safe Travels Captain making good progress now!
Thank you Tom, glad you liked this episode 👍
Another lovely commentary.....think you've another career in you Neil x
Thank for your positive comments Fiona, I’m glad you enjoyed this episode and I will definitely keep the commentary going. Captain Neil x
brave people. Thank you very much for sharing
Thank you for your feedback and I am pleased you enjoyed the episode. The RNLI and allied coastal rescue services are indeed very brave and humble.
Welcome to Dartmouth. Thanks for dropping into our Visitor Centre. I have contacted crew and fundraisers and hopefully some will visit you later- Paul (Treasurer)
Hello Paul and thank you and all the Dart RNL crew/volunteers for making our visit such a wonderful experience. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication on behalf of others.
I see you are at anchor in the Kingsbridge ria. One of my favourite spots - superb sunsets and sunrises! With a mooring on the Exe, I know that area of SW through to Portland and beyond very well. If you need any help or advice just let me know. Enjoy!
Thank you Derek- it is truly peaceful after some big (for us) sea crossings around the coasts of Britain. Thank you for the offer, we are on our way towards Dartmouth and Totnes shortly. More fantastic places to enjoy whilst the weather holds well. We are thoroughly enjoying our trip
@@neilmarshall3942 river Dart to Totnes is a delight - 2 recommendations along the way if you have time - Dittisham with loads of mooring buoys and pubs to the west and Agatha Christie house on the east and Stoke Gabriel further up - 2 visitors mooring buoys and lovely creek with pubs, cafes and historic yew tree!!! Enjoy.
Brilliant! Shame you didn't make Scilly islands. On the home stretch x
Thank you Fiona, just got an internet signal to see your message. Yes, it’s a shame we didn’t make the Scillies this time - probably means I’ll have to sail across the south coast to try again next year 🤭
Congratulations 👏 on reaching Land’s End! What a journey! ⛵️
Thank you Ann. It really was a big moment as you realise you might not have the opportunity to do this again. Take every opportunity, as the saying goes 👍
Very nice! Thank you. I did this passage with absolutly no wind…. ruclips.net/video/3eqdFFBwbHU/видео.htmlsi=BLe5lnoIDTSjyWDI
Did you get to meet Bev & Gaynor from Salty Lass? Bangor is their home port
Unfortunately not. But we had a great time in Bangor and the marina team and RNLI crew members made us very welcome
Phew! Made me seasick just watching that one! 😂🤢
Thanks for the kind feedback Jo-Anne. I certainly was very bumpy towards the end. We were very glad to get into a safe harbour 👍
Phew a bit of a windy one! 😅
Thank for your comments Fiona, it was certainly challenging and character building. We were glad to be safely tucked up in the marina that night.
Brings back many memories. Coming back from Kilmore Quay in a Achilles 24 during a F7 is one. Trying to get into Milford (home port) but beaten back, so made a dive and calculated risk through the swell for the tiny harbour of Porthgain (shown on the film here). Thankfully the Sloop was open so after tying up it was several pints and a dry out!
Wow Peter, thank you for your feedback and what an adventure you had that day, especially in a 24 footer. Glad to see you used the time to rehydrate properly 🤣👍
Another lovely film! Loving the Welsh pronunciation Neil 😂 Also places we went on holiday as kids. Mum's side this time xx
Thank you for the great feedback Fiona, we are certainly starting to move south at last. Weather has been terrible for sailing. The Welsh people we met were lovely.
Hope you’re all having fun with Norman aboard too! Looking good 😊
Always!
amazing stuff as usual Neil! you might still be a way off but I'd highly recommend Lundy island in the Bristol channel 😀
Thank you for your excellent feedback Fabien and I’m glad you like the video. With such a lot of delays due to the weather so far in July and August, we might have to push on a bit to get down to Lands End sooner rather than later. The strong winds have mean being safe in harbour’s rather than risk dangerous seas down the west coast where safe shelter becomes less obvious. Thanks for the tip about Lundy Island, this is somewhere I’d like to visit if possible.
love it captain
Thank you Tom, glad you enjoyed the video, more to come ⛵️
Looks lovely Neil 🙏
Thank you for your positive comments Jacob, glad you enjoyed this episode. Strong winds have slowed down our progress across Wales but we will be on the move shortly- watch this space 😎
Sailed my nic 32 last week from coleraine to carlingford and took a pint of guinness at rathlin island
Thank you for the feedback Johan, all ways pleased to receive it from my videos. I’m glad to know fellow sailors also enjoyed their visit to Rathlin, it’s a great island to visit. The nic 32 is a great yacht, enjoy.
@@neilmarshall3942 yes it is, very strong oldschool, built in 1965, stil has the nice brass oil lights on the bulkhead and they stil work.
great video again............. which video editing software do you use ? keep it up.............safe sailing ⛵
Thank you for your positive feedback Andrew, really appreciated. At the moment I’m using iMovie for editing on my iPhone.
Thank you for following us and posting your comments. Yes the weather has changed and the passages are getting more challenging. The reward is more experience and new destinations, fantastic
