Another great video filled with great information. I have never seen one in person but this video is a great substitute. I hope to see one at some point. Thanks for another great video.
I really appreciate that! I hope you get to see one in person as well!
Thanks so much I learned a lot about a bird I see and photograph a lot. The video clips are great. It was great meeting you and Bill yesterday.
Aww thank you! It was a pleasure to meet you as well!☺️
I have between 10-15 bluebirds around my yard this winter. I’m assuming the pair that nested in our yard last summer are a part of that group, but several more have also come around. I’m surprised that they’ve congregated around my pretty small suburban home with houses all around me. It’s a very cold and snowy winter so far and they eat the dried mealworms I provide them. When they’re hungry they come up to my porch and sit on the railings waiting for the worms. Sometimes coming up very close to me when I feed them. Love taking care of them and watching their nesting habits!
Wow! That is really cool that they wait for the mealworms on your porch railings and allow you to get so close! The bluebirds here are very skittish. What an awesome experience😀
Always impressed by your footage!
Thank you! ☺️
Great video! Please, can you recommend a basic bird feed that covers all or most of these birds. I'm in central Florida. Thanks for any answers 😀
Hi there! Thank you so much! Black oil sunflower seeds are appealing to most of these birds, so that’s a good place to start. I use a brand called Pennington quite often, and their Classic Wild Bird Feed has a good basic mixture that includes the sunflower seeds. I will try to link it in the description of this video so you can check it out. I will also try to link some of the other bird feed that I like using. Hope this helps!😀
@NaturallyCourtneyChannel Awesome! Thanks so much. I'm off to get some. My cats like watching the birds from their caged catio. Don't worry, they can't get out of the catio.
That’s great! So glad that was helpful and I hope your cats enjoy birdwatching😃
I have to hide my food also. I have a hungry, hungry squirrel (oops! Teenage boy!) that eats me out of house and home!! Nice to see you again! Happy New Year!
🤣 Hilarious! Thanks so much! Always a pleasure hearing from you!
@NaturallyCourtneyChannel We are having winter weather here in North Florida. Brrr! ❄️❄️
I thank you so much. I am literally watching a couple of squirrels in my backyard now😂
I'm fascinated by the antics of Eastern Grey squirrels. Watching now. I'm getting an education of something so common right in my own backyard ❤
You’re so welcome! They are super fun to watch, aren’t they?!😀
Yes, they are fascinating! I’m glad you are enjoying the video☺️
Aww love your video we are watching it right now! Come and visit our bundle of joy we are rehabbing Mabel for release as soon as it warms up here! Blessings!
Aww thanks so much! Wow, how cool! Yes, I absolutely will. Can’t wait to meet her!😃🩷
The photography is excellent and scenes are diverse in location not just backyard
Thank you!
Just look out! He may deliver the wrong baby! 😆 Hahaha
😂
I was off work today. I opened up the Jeep to air it out. A small bird landed on the window opening. As I walked around I scared it off. It flew through the Jeep! I didn't get a good look at it; it happened too fast. One of these days that's gonna happen with me in the driver's seat! 🐦 🐦🐦🐦🐦
Hey Courtney...how does a squirrel see?
Hi there! They actually have good eyesight. It seems to me, though, that they often defer to their sense of smell when trying to find food. I’ve noticed when feeding them that they will often “overlook” food that I’ve put right in front of them while continuing to sniff around 😂 At the same time, if I hold something between my fingers, they will take it right from me with no difficulty seeing it at all! Hope that answers your question!😀
Do they migrate to Pennsylvania in the Spring?
Hi! Yes, I believe they do!😀
Soooo, that’s one woodpecker I have never seen before. All the streets are named after birds in area where cabin is. Downy woodpecker is the name of one street. Now I know how it looks! 🤗👍🏽
Oh that’s cool! Yes, keep an eye out for the downy and please let me know if you spot it!🤗
He’s normal size 😂
Lol it is normal size for a downy woodpecker 🤣 which is the smallest woodpecker in North America, as I stated in the video.😀
Adorable.
Thank you!☺️🩷
Now you are into my favorite animal in the backyard! Squirrels! When another squirrel gets too close you will hear them give a cute little growl; grrrr! We have at least 10 or 12 that come to visit us. Daytime in the winter is too short for me to see them except on weekends. Its dark by the time I get home. 🙁
They are such fun to watch! I know what you mean about the shorter daylight hours too. Bummer.😕
Fascinating.
I’m so happy you found it interesting!
And we love that its your voice and not an ai voice!
Thank you!😀
Aww see our urban squirrel rescue: ruclips.net/user/shortsmLRDh_7rLbk?feature=share
Most years, Miami is just too far south for them. In the last 32 years here, good numbers showed up maybe 3 or 4 times. In 2009-10, there actually were lots of them. I even saw a pine Siskin- almost never here. Last year, some people did have them visit, not me! Many great birds here, there are seven painted buntings coming to the yard, so I won’t complain. Still, I’ll trade you a bunting for a bright yellow goldfinch any day- only one, of course!
I love painted buntings! (Who doesn’t?) We used to get several in our yard, but they didn’t show up last year. I’m hoping they come back this year once it gets a bit cooler. In the meantime, I’ll definitely make a trade! Yes, just one😂
Thanks for the great video. Parulas are one of the most common migrant warblers in South Florida. They don’t breed here, but many spend the winter. I’ve had at least one wintering in my yard most years (since 2009). There’s one that’s sticking around this year that comes down to the fountain. I have the binoculars at my desk, and get great looks when they come down. Right now it’s in fall plumage; the blue has a pretty green wash, otherwise like the rest of the year. Such a neat little bird, with it’s pastel colors. By late January they begin to sing here. In the late 1980s, I lived in Orlando. They are the first ‘summer’ birds to arrive, in late February. In the forests up there, with lots of oaks covered with Spanish moss, they were very common, constantly singing their spiraling buzzy song.
I’ve never seen them in fall plumage; very interesting! Thanks for sharing!
They don’t change too much. The breast pattern has some green veiling too. They aren’t like this for long. They get more crisp as the tips of the new feathers wear off. I had an indigo bunting at the feeder in 2013-14. It’s new feather tips take much longer to wear off. The iridescent blue was almost completely hidden until late January/February. Then suddenly blue patches appeared, in time becoming more, then completely blue, the same way your goldfinches do. Must be neat seeing them change to bright yellow. Wish I had goldfinches, as you know!
A bit of Naval history. An attack squadron based at NAS Lemore, CA was equipped with the new A-4 Skyhawk. This small, bantam jet aircraft was also known as Heineman's hotrod; named for the chief designer. The squadron (VA-94) was known as the 'Mighty Shrikes'. Very appropriate for the fact that they flew the smallest attack aircraft in the Navy. My dad served with VA-94 aboard the USS Ranger when the aircraft was first used in combat in Vietnam. Little plane, big punch. And as a great radio man once said, "And now you know the rest of the story."
Wow! Very interesting! Thanks for sharing. 😊
That radio man was Paul Harvey. He told many people the story behind the story for years. History is about what people do. The connections are sometimes incredible. Go read Jonathan Livingston Seagull. I read it as a kid. It connected me to birds and man's attempt to emulate birds.
Love your dimples and beautiful smile 😊
Thank you ☺️
New fear unlocked. Tiny Birds 😎
I know right!🤣
Nice :)
Thank you 😊
Great video. I need to look for this bird when I get the chance. According to the maps they aren't yet in the area I live, Puget Sound Area of Washington State.
Thank you! I hope you are able to find one!
I feed the squirrels. The squirrels are messy. The birds come for the leftovers! Truth be told I do feed them as well. Of course the chickens don't count! Question: if you watch a turkey cook on Thanksgiving, does that count as 'bird watching'? I guess I'll be watching one bird!
Yes, squirrels and birds kind of go hand in hand when it comes to feeding. You can’t really feed one without luring the other in as well! 😂
@NaturallyCourtneyChannel A squirrel proof feeder just about doesn't exist! Watch the antics squirrels go through to get to the seeds!! Might as well feed them nuts so they leave the seed alone. Well, that's my solution. My wife has a few squirrels that feed from her hand and very nearly follow her inside! Not quite...
Excellent video!
Thank you!☺️
Wow!
Either way its one beautiful bird.
Definitely!
I love your videos but this is my all time favorite. ❤
I’m so glad you like it!😀
I love all your videos but this is one of my favorites. I’ll never look at woodpeckers the same way again. ❤
Thank you! They are fascinating creatures, aren’t they?!
Red Bellied & he will come & take peanuts that I throw out for Jays & squirrels
Lol! The red-bellies are so aggressive😂
@@NaturallyCourtneyChannel yeah I’ve seen them chase off Blue Jays when flying in the get a peanut, which is surprising because Jays are slightly bigger. They are much more timid with humans than Jays though, he won’t come close to me, but Jays will. It’s ok, birds are entertaining.
Absolutely!
I went to the Pioneer Village in Barberville with my son's elementary school field trip. The peacocks were Loud! And no, like turkeys they prefer to walk. I think they fly just enough to get away or roost. They are big birds! But oh, so colorful.
Yes! We have a lot of them in our neighborhood and they are very loud!
You say they are ornery birds? Oh, ornamental. That's better!
😄
I'm a second cousin to a laughing hyena. Just trying to get everyone else laughing as well! (You did say the geese 🪿 were from Africa)
🤭
There are several squirrels maze videos on YT to watch. If you want to laugh, look 'em up! Ninja Squirrels! On another note, put a small pile of nuts (any kind!) out for the squirrels and watch the antics. When another squirrel gets too close you can hear them growl (Grrr!). Such vicious squirrels! I can't help myself; I laugh at their tiny growls!
Lol! I have seen a couple of those types of videos!😂 Yes, they can be quite aggressive when they want to be. I just saw two of my little friends fighting and growling at each other today; I literally went out and told them to “cut that out” like they were children! 🤭🤣 I might be a little too attached!
I like your video. But you can't really listen to this Squirrel if you're gonna have music playing in the background ❣️✌️ Why do people that make video's think we need music in the background? You were programmed by 📺 ✌️😆😅🤣😂👍🥰🐿🫶
Thanks for the compliment and feedback. Your point is valid and I have since lowered the background music in my newer videos when there is something else in the foreground that I want the viewer to hear. I have absolutely no background in videography and am teaching myself everything involved in making videos, so it’s a learning process. I add music to my videos because I love music, it makes me happy, and it helps to creates the mood I want evoke. Nothing “programmed” about me.
Some say I am a bird brain. Others say I am a nut! I just say I'm squirrelie. Oh, I have six Canadian geese hanging around work. I'll try to get some close up pics for you. They act like they own the place (probably do!).
😂 Oh wow! How cool! I know you feed the squirrels; do you do any birdwatching?
@@NaturallyCourtneyChannel A little. Mostly when they show up I'll watch. We have a pair of owls that keep my son up at night! They're a Hoot! Haha! Some cardinals, jays, robins and the occasional hummingbirds. Of course the @#$& crows! So, yeah, I guess I Do like bird watching! Gulls at the county dump. Eagles making nests on tall power poles. Egrets and other long leg birds. And our favorite here in Florida, the pelican. The Pelican! Who's beak can hold more than his belly can! How the hell he can...
And ravens and sparrows and morning doves and and and....
A wise old owl sat in an oak The more he saw the less he spoke The less he spoke the more he heard Why can't we be like that wise old bird?
Cool! Yes, I love pelicans😀 Did you see the longer version of this video? It has a lot more birdwatching tips.
Awesome video for my family. Your videos are a really great reference for us! ❤
Thank you! I’m so glad you are finding them helpful!☺️
Cute
Thanks😊
Excellent education for beginners who love CREATION as I do
