Six Flags Discovery Kingdom Review - Is it REALLY that bad?
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.3 месяца назад
In this review, I talk about Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo California. This park is home to some interesting roller coasters such as Joker, Medusa, and Kong, and is a part of the Six Flags chain of parks. There are some things that I like about this place, as well as some things I don't like, but does it really deserve the hate it gets among coaster enthusiasts?

Is it just me or does scream look like hot wheels 😂😂
That sound is heavy 😂
HEY I KNOW THESE GUYS
NOOO WAYYY ME TOOO
I loved this coaster.
Me too!
So random, but as a teen, I always remember seeing some sort of documentary / show following Britney Spears and she went on this ride!
Oh yeah! Also, a bunch of Elvis impersonators were some of the first riders ever lol
You can blame that on the SLS take over of the Sahara they got rid of the NASCAR Cafe they got rid of the coaster they tried to go with some fancy restaurants an outdoor bar and cafe all of which did not meet expectations and they were losing money hand over fist and then I'm not sure who it was somebody bought it out and rebranded it the Sahara again
That about sums it up
I think we can all agree that Vegas needs more coasters
Oh absolutely
It was a great ride, I rode it at least 3 times in my life and I do agree it was the best one.
I loved this ride 😭
Such a tragedy that Las Vegas lost this gem. That city has gotten so unlucky with its roller coaster collection.
For real bro
@@CoasterDash For real bro
Personally, my favorite Vegas coaster is that one coaster that swings from end to end at the Stratosphere
X-scream! Is that considered a coaster?
@stapledmedia I don't know, but hey, the GP say it's a coaster so I guess it's a coaster cause they know better than us
i love this ride but ive rode it so many times if there is more then a 30 min wait i will not go on it.
That’s fair! Thats how I feel about a lot of rides at my home parks, because I ride them so much!
Valid ranking
Thank you!
In my experience with full throttle I loved it. Its short but sweet and since Im just a kid, me and my friend had a couple of inches of room between our bodies and the restraints so I felt that I moved into the restraint on that hangtime and I dont think the breaks are that bad. In my opinion its a top 10 for the park or maybe even a top 5.
Solid!
NEW STAPLED MEDIA POST!!!
LETS GOOOOO
I think what they should do is scrap whatever they have planned / are working on right next to this ride right now and open a sister coaster called Full Send and have it be an S&S Pneumatic Launch coaster. Same theme, similar ride premise, but a little more up-to-date.
FULL SEND
YOLO
Ето ничто посровнению с муві парком
I can’t believe my cousin went on this ride since I’m scared of roller coasters
does it go upside down
No:)
@@IntaminFanGRLPowerCoasters Hello GRL Power Coasters
@@themeparksofamerica hi
Never heard of this coaster (or park) despite living relatively nearby. Might check it out some weekend! Thanks for the review.
Yeah, it's not much of an amusement park, to my knowledge. It really is mostly a gardens.
Where is this?at like Florida?
It’s at Busch gardens in Tampa Florida! Wonderful park :)
I went on that I was terrified ❤
It’s intense!!
I live near by and the past few years I took my family the staff was terrible, wont even look you in the eye, or they roll their eyes if you ask you something like you are stupid and wasting there time. It was cool when i was younger and went with friends but it did go down hill.
I really hope it can get better
@@stapledmedia yeah its cool, i just eat and let the kids ride the coasters now.
Dang, it sounds like you had a really bad experience. I was only able to visit once and when I went I was expecting to take a long time but the crowds were extremely slim. The dining plan is a struggle though, and I still don’t know why it’s like that at this park. The shuttle buses were working when we were coming in and going out of the park. Though I didn’t get to see much of the animals, I’d consider the park to be pretty good. My first skyrocket 2 and first free spin were here, so I didn’t find them bad. The only rides that were closed were their slc, boomerang, some of their kiddie coasters, and flash, but from a thoosie standpoint, only flash being closed can be seen as a negative. I feel that the GP wouldn’t like this park very much though.
Hopefully on my next visit I’ll enjoy it more :)
Good review. This seems like a fun roller coaster, but I would have to go to Gilroy so it's probably a no
Thank you! It is a bit of an expensive park for what you get
My favorite roller coaster there is GhostRider, followed by Xcelerator, Montezooma's Revenge, Hangtime, Silver Bullet, Pony Express, Sierra Sidewinder, Jaguar, Coast Rider, and Boomerang.
Great list!
Unfortunately, I haven't been to this park since 2014, so the only coasters I've ridden so far are Manta and Journey To Atlantis.
I actually thought the back half of the park looked really nice, while the front half looked really ugly with all the blacktop. It would have been nice to add more plants/shading to the DC universe section.
I do agree with the park needing more plants / shade in DC, but the main entrance and area by Medusa looks great imo!
I went here in 2022 and I had a great time, I plan to return to this park when I visit Northern California again
I hope my next visit will be much better :)
@@stapledmedia I hope so too, on a good day, it’s a pretty nice park. Also fun fact: if you walk to the top of Medusa’s lift hill on a clear day, you can see the Golden Gate Bridge
My favorite roller coaster there is Wonder Woman: Flight of Courage, followed by Twisted Colossus, X2, Full Throttle, Apocalypse, Tatsu, Riddler's Revenge, Goliath, Superman: Escape From Krypton, Scream, Ninja, Batman: The Ride, Goldrusher, Revolution, Viper, and Green Lantern: First Flight. West Coast Racers was closed on my last visit.
Wonder Woman is underrated
I have faith in this park. Now that Six Flags has merged with Cedar Fair and Cedar Fair has majority control of the company, I'm confident that they'll be able to make this park shine once again in the near future.
Vallejo has a limit of 150ft so I don’t know
Hopefully, but I could also see six flags really tossing this one to the side even more now :(
i thought i was the only one. i went this summer and half of the major coasters were closed, terrible staff and guests, 1 train ops on the few rides that were open. no reason to ever go back, absolutely the worst six flags Ive been to
You’re not alone!
I'm probably one of the last people to be in Flash's station, yet I didn't even get to ride😂...it was an infield tour at SFDK during Coaster Con 46. ACE and Six Flags, that was one of the coolest experiences of my life. As for the "amusement park " section of my day, I did end up getting on all of the open coasters. Kong, Boomerang, and Flash were down. Yeah, the park isn't that great. I was able to ride Medusa during the day, as well as Joker, Sidewinder, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman. The lines were crazy long!! Thanks ACE and Six Flags for awesome ERT at the end of the day:) Also on the day I went, the weather was so cool!! The sun and the clouds were making a painting-perfect blue sky making for amazing coaster pics
ACE ERT goes crazy that’s awesome!
Hey, stapled i met you at knotts yesterday at knotts, and I've been watching all your videos. Great channel, but im curious. You live in san diego, and it seems like you're at kbf or sfmm every week. Do you honestly drive that much. That just seems to me like a huge amount of gas money?
I do drive a lot, to me it’s worth it!
bro 💀🤣
🥰
I think you're severely underrating this park... I've been to plenty parks across the country and SFDK is not nearly as bad as you make it out to be. Maybe you had an off day or something, but there's actually a good amount of stuff to do there. Also the part about it not really being a great "family park" doesn't seem like something you really know how to judge as the fact that the park is half animal attractions, which is what the park originally was before Six Flags bought it and turned it into a theme park, is a large reason why it's a great place for families to visit. I'm not saying it's one of the greatest parks out there, but it's definitely closer to a 5-6 at worst rather than a 3. You make it sounds like it's a dilapidated mess when that's far from the truth. I really wouldn't be surprised if it was because it's an off-season day that you visited the park, as parks in northern CA really don't operate year-round like some parks and more so focus their operations for summer, and because it was an off-season day it left you with a much more negative opinion vs if you visited during the summer months.
Always a possibility, but on both my visits, I had a terrible time
@@stapledmedia That's a shame to hear... I've always had a great time, but I usually just go for the rides and am not really concerned with the food as I generally bring my own and eat it in the parking lot if I even eat at all during the day as park food is always super expensive.
Your experience is likley the the rarity, we have a good time here, but we have flashpass ultimate for the season... we go to ride coasters, and that's about it...but imo the park isn't worth going to without flashpass, operations are terribly slow and the rest of the park is run down and lacks so much theming wise. We go about once a month, just fyi
@@jwest19812007 I haven't been there for a while due to health reasons so that's likely why my experience differs. The video poster said it has gone downhill since the pandemic, which if that's the case it's unfortunate.
Brings me back to our visit! While I miss Joker and really want to ride Flash, this park is sort of a drag. And you were definitely right about the food 😅
Love me a grey cheeseburger
Flash is great 😈
Hello CoasterDash
Unless the park has changed a lot in the last few years they don't close the coasters nearly as often as you make them out to be closed
From what I’ve seen and heard, they’re closed a lot. Same thing with Magic Mountain, started after covid times.
@@stapledmedia Hmmm... If that's true that's a shame. The park is really great when everything (besides maybe Kong and Boomerang) are operating as it's just the right amount of rides to fill up a days worth of fun.
That's pretty weird that they are using busses to get to the parking. They used to use trams that would come extremely often. I wonder if it's just an off-season thing where they use busses instead of trams or if it was a permanent change.
I hope it’s just an off season thing
Had one of the worst experiences ever at this park that I still don't like to remind myself about. My first and only experience at this park was back in July 2024. Kong, Boomerang, and Flash were already going to be closed before I went but then a day right before I go, Joker decided to valley right before the final brake run. So because of that, I didn't get to ride Joker. Apart from that, it was insanely crowded and Medusa was at a 2 hour wait all day. Funnily enough, I actually ended up enjoying myself a lot more in the animal exhibits than the coasters themselves. I didn't even bother with getting a single meal in this park since the food looked atrocious. Overall, this is the only park that I would actually rather never return to this park unless Joker will absolutely positively be open.
Oh my god dude I’m so sorry 😂
I saw stapledmedia in line at knotts react to this post, and he was in disbelief. It was pretty funny. That's how I found this channel. We had a great conversation on Calico. Hopefully, you had a better day at a better theme park.
@@AndREW-um5on Small world, I was there as well.
@redlock9621 honesty I've met so many people on off days at amusement parks. It's kind of insane I saw theme park worldwide twice last week.
@AndREW-um5on I've met Stapled Media at parks sometimes too. Truly is a small world we live in.
Really solid review
Thank you!
Why did you retheme your channel? @@stapledmedia
How disappointing. Was wanting to go there this winter. Will check out the Great American you mentioned. Thanks.
Yeah, California's Great America is a solid park!
I'd suggest checking out both... Both parks are definitely worth visiting. Santa Cruz is also a must because of the history, but it's not nearly as easy to get to.
@@damegataco Thank you. Yes, I'm going to plan for both. I saw another review by someone else and they suggest just going and seeing for ones self. They saw critical reviews, but ended up having a wonderful experience anyway.
@@DisabledNomads If you can ride Medusa, Joker, and hopefully Flash (since it's a unique impulse design) I definitely think you'll consider it worth going. I haven't been for a while and apparently the general consensus is since the pandemic the park hasn't been operating as well as it used to according to the guy who uploaded the video, which is a shame if that's the case. I definitely would avoid getting the food there besides maybe pizza, dipping dots (always a theme park staple), maybe the crepes in the crepe place in the front if it's still there, and some fudge from the candy shop in the front area in the store to the right side of the gate facing the park exit that actually has an exit outside of the park. Although in general I avoid eating at parks anyways since the food is always overpriced. Also definitely visit the butterfly habitat building as that's always a fun experience. To say the least if you go I'm sure you'll have a fun time and appreciate the park for the unique experience it is.
jonkler coaster
Real
this ranking sucks tbh, jaguar is elite and number one at the park, ghostrider is terrible and should be number 9
Hmm maybe you’re right…
As an annual passholder at Knott's Berry Farm (until December 31), This is a pretty solid list. I agree with the Top 3 and the roller coaster rankings aren't that far off from mine
It’s a pretty great lineup
