What cracks me up is I revisit these Genesis covers and see I already commented. Well, well, well, you still rock 3 years later.

I'm always curious where the Domino brass hit came from. I realize it's the Yamaha TX816 into the Emulator, but a starting point to program it.

Is there a reason that you're playing it in A instead of the original Bb?

I love watching these type videos because they really show that everything Tony played had a purpose to serve the song. Unlike some of his contemporaries who seemed to be just playing fast flurries of notes with their right hand, Tony made every chord voicing and every melody line an integral part of the composition.

I have a completely different keyboard approach to this piece and it sounds better than Tony's. I can make my Mellotron cry and sing at the same time.

I'll tell you a little story. It was April 2004. I was at home, bored and saw a DVD of The Way We Walk on the shelf (I was living with my parents at the time). Wasn't a huge Genesis fan back then, didn't even know how it was different from Phil Collins 😀. So, I put on the DVD and was blown away immediately when the first song (Land of Confusion) started. And stayed blown away until the end. Immediately went and asked my dad, who was a huge prog fan, if he had any Genesis CDs. He handed me the complete discography 😀. He also recommended I start with A Trick of the Tail and Foxtrot, so I did. Immediately fell in love, every single one of the songs on both of those albums was absolute perfection. And of course after that I listened to all the other albums and Genesis became my absolute favorite band of all time. Was also lucky enough to see them live in 2007 and 2022. And that's how I became a Genesis fan and remain so to this day. And it all started with The Way We Walk DVD and Land of Confusion. So - thank you so much for making this cover, it sounds absolutely fantastic 🙂

Could you please tell me how you get the high pitch arpeggio effect which comes in at 9.52 please?? You're playing a downward run that goes: B flat, G sharp, F sharp, E over and over, but have you added a delay effect?? This is my fav song, between the pedal tone and the constant meter changes that both highlight unresolved tension... similar to that of my own life. IMHO, the best ever recording of this song was on the Three Sides Live album of the 1981-82 tour. The Yamaha CP-70 electric grand piano is the central instrument here, no MIDI, no layering, just pure unadulterated (albeit chorused) exhibition of the instrument that did for Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, and Phil Collins what the piano-forte did for Beethoven: allowed for the writing of music that would otherwise not have been written (BTW, that is my CP-80 featured in my avatar). The synthesizer on that recording was a Prophet-10 that tuned 2 oscillators apart by a fourth, enabling the line to be played with one finger of the left hand while the right hand stayed on the piano. One comment: during the "bridge," you are playing Dmaj-Dmaj-Dmaj-Cmaj... Dmaj-Dmaj-Dmaj-Cmaj, followed by Fmaj-Fmaj-Fmaj, then an EbMaj, however the proper progression is Fmaj x 3, then Gmaj x1, before going to the BbMaj.

Can you explain how you made the Dx7/Rhodes sounds? I can’t seem to figure it out. It sound likes strings but its layered with something else.

Is the live version half step down?

Also, can you give any insight on how you made the sample for the bridge? That sound has always eluded me!
