I'm starting to understand why most manufacturers have put the motors under water where the gearbox would be, not only the added efficiency of eliminating gears might offset some of the additional drag but the noise difference is incredible. This motor is arguably loud and part of that might just gears but also the vibrations of the prop passing through the keel turbulence transmitting through the shaft.

It weighs a bit much like a Yamaha 115hp petrol. Why didn't they choose 3 line in the set when they still weigh this much. I can think of them then with 900cc and inline 3 should be able to get 100hp and weigh under 200kg. But what many people want is 15-30hp for their dinghy. But then it must weigh under 100kg is one thing that is certain. Preferably 75kg. Is this possible?

I would absolutely love to own this model! It’s more seaworthy, way faster, easier to handle, cheaper to operate, and much more comfortable than my twin 200 hp outboard 30 foot walk around. I can’t think of a more versatile all season family weekend/sport boat. Great job, Axopar! A true masterpiece 🎉

Omg, that motor will never sit on my boat with that high pitch sound, not only is it loud it is a terrible sound, if it was completely quiet like an electric car (without artificially generated sound) it would be compelling. But to change a gas engines nice growling sound to that? Nope. One positive though, it looks good.

Just for reference it takes about 50-55KwH to produce a kg of hydrogen and that 1kg of hydrogen only contains about 33KwH of chemichal energy. Although hydrogen is nearly tripple the gravametric energy density of gasoline(120KJ/G vs 46MJ/G) ; even at 700Bar (not psi freakin bar so 10,150psi) hydrogen only has a volumetric density of only 5.4MJ/L compared to gasolines 34MJ/L. This may sound like nonsense but in simple terms you would need 1.) Nearly twice the volume of hydrogen tanks to acheive an equivelany fule storage as gasoline (less room in your vehicle + 10,000psi highly flamable tanks of compressed gas) 2.) Hydrogen fule as stated earlier costs about twice as much energy to make as is can produce so your already essentially at the same ~50% theoretical efficiency as any gasoline drive ICE anyways xD

Why not a fuel cell? Wouldn't you get more range from less hydrogen onboard? I still think fully electric will penetrate this market as well. You can get away with cheaper battery chemistries as you are not as penalized with weight on a boat like you are in a car. I think people would have to look at their usage. I go out with my uncle off the coast of Jersey, and we never really do more than 60 miles in a day. People who cover more distance may need to consider hydrogen options, but I think most people will find electric versions will suit their needs.

Twin conrods per piston is a game changer this was first done on a motorbike diesel, which allows higher revs with little vibration unheard of by a diesel

I hasten to add that I loved this video and the performance of this electric outboard engine!

I say the way to go is to build direct ammonia fuel cells to power electric boats. These will solve the range and weight issues. Batteries in boats are not the best mix.

30 miles is not good range at all, normal range for boat is 200-250 miles, if I get this boat I should stop in middle of my day to do full recharge so I can get back home
