The severity of the situation is evident as Market Street in Potsdam, near the intersections of Sandstone Drive, Pleasant Street, Elderkin, Canal Street, and Garden Street, experienced flooding. The heavy rain from storm Debby has saturated the north country, leading to weather alerts and travel advisories in the tri-county area and a state of emergency declaration for all of New York from Gov. Kathleen C. Hochul.
Flash flooding is expected in several villages and towns, including Potsdam, Canton, Parishville, Colton, Brasher Falls, Pierrepont, Norwood, Norfolk, Stockholm, Moira, Bangor and Brushton.
