Eventually, Disney decided it was more trouble than it was worth, and put their foot down. Universal were aware of this and capitalized on it, more or less writing her a blank check in comparison for creative control Disney has had attractions based on non-Disney IP since the 80s, beginning with Star Tours. Michael Eisner was an advocate for keeping the parks new and invoking relative elements of modern and relevant culture into the park. This deal was being negotiated around the time the leadership changed to Bob Iger, who is very much the "brand-synergy" guy.

Disney is nothing compared to HP. If theme parks are compared to commuter railroads, Disney would be Chicago Metra and HP would be Japan Shinkansen @250mph. Cannot compare.
