The idea, according to legend, is that a (ALWAYS solitary, in these stories) work was needed to satisfy an obligation and that "Schoolboy Blues" was the brilliant fuck-you, a fulfillment of contract completely unsellable. Doubtless apocryphal, but i like the story AND the song
