PUBLIC LAND GOBBLERS: A cycle of insanity
Просмотров 744 месяца назад
As hunters we often feel insane for making decisions over and over expecting success but experiencing failure. This is my own personal slice of insanity viewed through the lens of my 2024 turkey season. In many ways our lives are the definition of insanity. Success always seems so clear even though the odds lean towards failure. Our expectation is to live even though we are destined to die. My ...
PUBLIC LAND GOBBLERS: spring thunder in the big woods
Просмотров 2405 месяцев назад
Follow along as I try to best a big woods gobbler on public land. This is my rookie year of spring turkey hunting and even though my skills aren't technically sound I still manage to get in close on fired up birds utilizing decoys and calls. If you are new to turkey hunting, I hope you find inspiration to get out there and give chasing spring turkeys a shot. Good luck out there!
BIG WOODS WHITETAILS: Tracking bucks in the Wilderness
Просмотров 8 тыс.7 месяцев назад
Every year I head to Michigan's Upper Peninsula for Thanksgiving deer camp. The UP of Michigan contains vast chunks of huntable federal, state, and private ground. But between the winters, wolves, and aging habitat it is hard to find a deer. Follow along as I try to truck down a big woods buck in the biggest woods Michigan has to offer, the Porcupine Wilderness Area.

SHED SZN: more MI public land finds!!!
Просмотров 528 месяцев назад
MI has over 4 million acres of public land. The key to finding antler sheds in this expanse of land is by narrowing your search down to the right 50 yard circle. It is hard to do, but by putting in enough miles during the right time of year and knowing when to slow down, this might happen to you. Good luck out there!!!
KANSAS RUT HUNT: DIY public land whitetails
Просмотров 34 тыс.8 месяцев назад
Come along as my buddies and I tackle a Kansas DIY whitetail hunt in the heart of the rut. Our first trip to Kansas was full of rut action and close encounters. Watch as a try to self-film myself taking down an old monarch of a whitetail.
BOW COASTER: the HIGHS and LOWS

Hunting big woods whitetails from the saddle and ground with my bow. The challenges are many. Can I get it done before the end of October? Watch as I take it down to the wire to release an arrow before the bells of November toll.
BUCK ENCOUNTERS!! (Michigan Archery Season)
Просмотров 518Год назад
Archery season in Michigan kicked off with two buck encounters, one pass and one blown opportunity. During the first week of season, I hunted public and private ground in the big woods of northern Michigan. Watch to see how the action unfolded in the early part of the autumn season.

Do you have a link for these? I cant find them in a google search.
What weeks yall went
Nm i just read it in description..do yall think yall went during the right week or should have waited another?
See you found our little north Missouri gold mine, me and my brothers from Louisiana have all went the past 4 years on the 1st of November every year, i believe i saw you last year but hadn’t discovered your channel yet
Good video guys!
Heading out in 4 days for a post rut hunt and as always planning for next season!
Only found 2 sheds so far hunting great time finding them just knowing that size buck came through right where you are is awesome in my opinion I have found a 3 point in a swamp an 4 point in a pine forest hopefully I’ll be able to find some more in later years
No brows, interesting. Congrats you earned that one.
This was the biggest waste of my time.
Great buck, congrats! The harder you work for 'em, the sweeter that reward is in the end! Nice work. Good luck this coming season. ~Kyle
Always wonder why ppl camo all out & wear an orange lid 🫡
Good video except for all that music in the way
I've hunted in the middle of the UP since 2978! My father started our plywood hunting camp in 1969. We still use it and we love hunting out of it!! It's our family tradition!
Louisiana boy here never been to missiouri been on the bucket list work seemed to always get in the way. Where somes descent spots worth my drive i dont expect you to gives up yours lol. Tks
I appreciate the care you took documenting your hunt. Very well done, great story !! I grew up hunting those woods so I know how hard that is…👍
No luck !! Luck is when preparation and opportunity meet !!!! Congratulations to you on a good /perfect shot !!!! You spend the time ya drink the wine 🍷!!!!!!!
That's why I don't hunt public land anymore, lol. Hunting is better on private land........don't ask me why 🤔 nice video, I can relate to it.
That was quite a rattle dance
I live in Kansas!!! I like seeing people educated enough to pass on young ones. Better luck next time!!!
Wow - Loved your video and congratulations! Very similar to how I get to hunt whitetails with the time and effort needed to harvest a buck in the SE Ohio mountains. Won't be long fall is around the corner.
Glad you enjoyed it! I love to hunt places where I don’t feel constrained by boundaries. Northern Michigan has that quality and it sounds like SE Ohio does too. Good luck connecting on a mountain buck this fall!
Bud you’re amazing me here. Love the drive, you will be humbled many times turkey hunting. Just a couple fyi’s turkeys can see color, the light on your hat when walking in. Also everyone misses, if you didn’t get worked up and miss why do it lol.
Thanks for the words of encouragement and advice. I definitely think I’m setting up for turkeys like I would for whitetail and it is hurting me. Loving the challenge though. Glad you liked the video!
Currently also out on my first turkey hunt alone. On day one I was impatient and over called a tom. Now on my fifth day and still my tag remains in my pocket. Hope to tag one this weekend.
Frustrating and addicting, that was my experience lol. Good luck! Hope you get it done.
Great job and video 👍
Noticed your arrow was not in your D Loop but nocked underneath not bad you didn't get a shot!
Absolutely! That day was crazy before the sun ever came up. Could have turned a good memory into a sour one pretty quick.
Loved it brotherman!!!...Hunting at its finest, boots on the ground, earning it one on one...Northern minnesota boy here, 40+ years of thick pines, swamps, and tag alder marshes...Never could see how climbing into a little house on a field edge and shooting a buck you knew was going to be there a real hunt...Well i guess the heater could quit working and you cant get the game on the radio...But great hunt brother and an awesome well deserved trophy!!!
Thanks and you and I are in agreement. I’ve hunted places with a lot of deer to choose from. It is fun at first but pretty quickly you realize you’re out there for more than a deer. The adventure and camaraderie of hunting camp in big country like northern Minnesota and the UP of Michigan is one of the boxes I need to check.
You should be very proud of that hunt.Very nice pursuit
Definitely am! Thanks for watching 👍🏻
That was a very enjoyable video to watch! Congrats on that real nice 6 pointer!
Glad you enjoyed the story!
You earned that one!! That’s what memories are made of !! 👍👍 good job and well done.
Thanks! The less deer to shoot, the bigger the memory when you do. I’m going to be retelling this one at deer camp for a long time 😊
The only way to really hunt. Good job man.
Thanks! It’s the challenge that makes it worth it.
Bigwoods and buck down. Way to hang in there. Congrats!!!
Thanks Bill! The toll booth operator at the Mackinac told us to dig deep. So that’s what we did lol.
Nice find’s especially on public land. Nice job. Thanks for taking us along
The music kills the moment
Your arrow wasn't knocked in your d loop😅😅😅😅 gotta get your shit together player😅😅😅😅😅
🤣🤣🤣 I’m a work in progress. Intense mornings like that reveal the cracks in your game. I didn’t know I did that until I started editing. Glad that buck never gave me a shot!
cool
Great video bud..very well put together. Gave me vibes of Marty Souffer days of wild America, if you know. Best compliment I can give. May be before you time. Keep it up 🤓
Best compliment ever! I think my passion for wild places started with Wild America. They were reruns on PBS at that point though.
Sorry that Kansas hunting trip didn't pan out for you. Nice vid, though. I do have 3 tips for you. First, get a pop-up blind. Second, get out of the draw and into the cut corn or CRP, high ground where bucks can spot you. Third, DECOY, with scent. They will come to you! Works really well in Iowa, at least, during the peak rut. Happy hunting.
100% agree. I’ve been given that advice by others too. What brand of decoy do you use?
We used several brands of decoys. I like the "boss". We kept a decoy at every popup blind so we didn't have to haul it every morning to our setup. We kept it assembled in the pop-up. Just had to place it and spray scent killer on it as well as buck tarsal scent between its legs. Bucks have to see and smell your decoy.
Oh, by the way, we also put buck facial gland scent on as well. Happy hunting!!!
Decoy 100% works for me in Iowa an Ohio. If you can carry in a full body decoy get the Montana folding decoy.
meant can't carry in get a Montana
'PromoSM' 🎉
Are they waterproof/waterresistant?
They aren’t waterproof from the store. I applied a water repelling spray to mine. Water beads up and rolls off nice but I still wouldn’t call them waterproof.
Mine get here on Saturday!
Sorry you didnt get your buck, been warm here in missouri, gun season starts on the 11th and temps will rise everyday later in week temps in high 60s not great for deer hunting hope to see more rut activity, God bless.
Hope your deer season was a success despite the warm temps!
Yes killed 8 point opening morning.
Being a michiganer myself, it kinda wrecks you when you hunt out of state. Especially in prime hunting states to the west of Michigan. Yep, I think you just got wrecked as well, lol. Good video and good luck getting a big one on the wall, 😉
Lol yeah passing Michigan 2 yr olds just got a lot easier. Thanks Bill! Need all the luck because as you know, it doesn’t come easy.
Is the that bow a Parker?
Sure is. Manufactured in 2003 I think. Bought it from my buddy in 2010. Finally upgraded this year.
Buy yourself a coyote howler, and a squeaker and help out the deer population by bagging some coyotes.
Private or Public? What area are you in, North Mo. Central Mo., or Southeast Mo. I've lived in Mo. my entier life and have hunted nearly half of it. You don't have to give out your exact location, just a general locality. And YES Mo. Has Huge bucks! My personal best was a 157" 10pt. Second best was a 145" 12pt. since Mo. has a 7pt rule now the bucks just keep getting bigger. I saw the biggest whitetail in my life on my brother's farm in North Central Mo. several years ago. I was hunting off the ground on top of a ridge overlooking a dry creek bed, kinda like a natural tree stand. Saw many deer from that spot and then Goliath showed up over my right shoulder and slightly behind me at no more than 15yrds. I had my rifle leaning up against a tree instead of in my hands, I swear this Beast of a buck would have scored 180" Plus maybe more, he was wide, tall and thick, his neck was the size of my chest. And you already know how it ended, he caught me reaching for my rifle and 2 bounds into the thick brush and poof......He Gone! Mo. Definitely Has Monarchs. Good Luck on your persuit of a true giant buck! Missouri has Definitely crossed over the threshold as being known as a Land of the Giants state and rivals Iowa, Kansas, and Nebraska as leading states to kill a True Giant. Especially in the North Central part of the state. Don't give up record books were made to be broken.
We were hunting northern Missouri. I agree, it’s an awesome place to hunt. And I feel your pain but just encountering a giant like that is special. Sounds like you will get another chance one of these days. Good luck this season! Kansas is on the menu for us this year but I will definitely be back to Missouri in the next few years.
It was Deer Ridge Wildlife area
Beautiful 9 point. Hopefully you get one soon.
Awesome video… y’all keep putting our content like this y’all’s channel is gonna blow up
Thanks for the video. Enjoyed it
Glad you enjoyed it!
Deer ridge?
Yep. Cool piece of public ground!
I’d be a little a more conspicuous about naming where you hunt. Deer Ridge ain’t exactly a secret as I’m sure you seen, but it’s just poor etiquette. The Hunting public even did a video on the subject. RUclips viewers should never know exactly where you’re hunting. I could do videos on a lot of really great areas in different states, but I’d rightfully piss a lot of people off too. Nice video other than that. Good luck this season!
Good job Scott! You captured my typical Michigan hunting experience. LOL! In reality, it does take a lot of time on stand to get the " shot you want"!
Every year I think it won’t be that hard lol.
Thats why God made tree's, because hunting on the ground is tough, lol
Absolutely! I like hunting from the ground but it is tough to get comfortable and you better have good cover. I am practicing for Kansas lol
Nice, best sheds I've seen on public ground, hope it's on public land in my area, 🙄
Lol I can’t give up my spots on social.
