      If it's an empty folder, right-click on it and select the "remove" option from the menu that appears. If there are pictures in there that you want to delete, you'll have to do this first. After exhausting every attempt to get LR Classic to link to my images on two (yes, two) external hard drives, I have decided to re-import the images into LR, using my new SSD drive (on which all my images are stored) as a source for the import, just as though I am importing them for the first time.

    • @lightsourcejourneys
      @lightsourcejourneys 2 года назад

      Hi Kenneth, sorry I'm just seeing this now. The biggest issue with the re-import is losing years of information and edits that the catalog remembers. I have another video that could probably help with the initial problem - ruclips.net/video/ivNd57CLQIk/видео.html . Now, before you try any of this, make sure you have a recent backup for LR. That way if it doesn't work out, you can restart from the recent backup and nothing is different than it is now. If you still have backup files from lightroom from before your re-import, you can open a previous backup (closest date just before the re-import) by double-clicking on that backup. It will start LR as it remembered it before the "rebirth". Then you can link the previous files to their new location as the above video describes. If this solves the initial problem, you would still lose anything you've done after the date of the backup you opened, but that might be less work than years of previous photos you'd have to redo. If that doesn't work it's probably more involved. My main gig is helping people with remote 1 on 1's via zoom and could probably help troubleshoot it that way. Best of luck to you!

  • @chromebright1
    @chromebright1 3 года назад

    Finding your videos quite helpful, however I have a "missing folder" problem I still can't solve. Recently I moved all my photos from a spinning external hard drive to a SSD for more longevity and reliability. Unfortunately I did this maneuver outside of Lightroom, which now I realize was a big mistake. Now, although all my images reside on both external drives, Lightroom for some unknown reason no longer recognizes the original disk hard drive and so I cannot transfer the image files and associated folders to the new SSD, furthermore, Lightroom doesn't find any of the image files that actually exist on both drives. Any suggestions? Thanks.

      Hi Steve. There are a couple of ways to do that. If you select the picture(s) you are trying to remove the rating from and then hit 0 on the keyboard, it will remove their rating. If you like to click the star ratings instead, click on that same number of starts again and it will remove them. Ie, if you have three stars and want zero, click the third star again below your photo and it will remove them.

    • @lightsourcejourneys
      @lightsourcejourneys 3 года назад

      If you have clicked on the correct folder before selecting "choose", it should fill in the blanks for you. If for some reason it's not, if possible, try moving the files back to their previous location where Lightroom thought they were. It should see them again. Now, using Lightroom to move the files, you can relocate them to their new home and Lightroom will remember this because it officiated the transfer. Hope that helps!

    If you deleted the original copy of a photo, would that delete the virtual copies as well?

    • @lightsourcejourneys
      @lightsourcejourneys 3 года назад

      Hi Matthew. Short answer - yes. Long answer - Lightroom doesn't actually do anything to your original file, ever. It uses its catalog to remember what you've done for the organization, editing, and the copies you've made. When you remove the original file that all of the catalog information is attached to, it also removes anything associated with that file from the catalog. Hope that helps. Thank you for watching and reaching out!

    • @lightsourcejourneys
      @lightsourcejourneys 3 года назад

      Hi Sean, thanks for watching! You can only apply one color at a time to a picture in Lightroom. I would also recommend plopping your model airplanes in Keywords. I was just generalizing about someone with a hobby that might dominate their time. That's where you get into the nitty-gritty about the type of plane, maybe the construction...whatever floats your boat. That's part of the beauty of LR. You can really customize it to the way your thought process works. I have a video on the basics of Keywording if you'd like to get a better idea of how I use those.
