Horse Training at Liberty - Is The Horse Really a Willing Partner?
Просмотров 9621 день назад
For a while I have had doubts about the liberty horse training trend. A search on Google brings up a whopping 9,200,000 results. But is liberty training really giving the horse the liberty the term implies? Or is it just another form of coersion using whips, sticks and/or food? Horse Rescue Investigations - Who We Are Not! Probing Deeper Into Mass Bailing Horse Rescues

I've been wanting to post to you all about mass bailing horse rescues that prey on the kindness of well-meaning people asking them to donate huge amounts of money so they can, in their words, stop horses from shipping to slaughter among other horrific outcomes. It's a scam! Pure and simple, and we would like to distance ourselves from these dubious non-profits and their practices. Please do you...

Horse Training Without The Use of Force or Coercion - R- & R+

I wanted to post this video to highlight a different type of horse training - one that uses neither force nor coercion. As humans we feel the need to control our horses whether by tools, contraptions or rewards. But are both these ways really helping our horses to trust us? It's a big question and one I believe should be addressed as we begin to move away from "Natural Horsemanship" and into a ...

Horse Rescue Investigations - Can You Rate The Mass Bailing Horse Rescues By Annual Revenue?

How to Teach A Horse That Kicks To Pick Up His or Her Feet
I thought liberty just meant they worked without a lungeline to control them. What does it mean to you?
@@beckygossett4697 I would say it is teaching horses to perform tricks much like you would train a dog or other animal. Nothing wrong with that per se but using the word "liberty" implies a connection that wouldn't be there without some form of coercion.
All relationships require cooperation. Having a relationship where a horse is willing to be directed isnt necessarily coercion. @@canhamfarmhorserescue
@@beckygossett4697 Well that depends. Coercion is not just using force it is also using persuasion to get another person or animal to do what you want. So even if you are training a horse using positive or negative reinforcement you are still using coercion to get the outcome you want.
It’s so hard to watch 😢
Thank you for being clear about what are NOT or DO NOT DO! I will follow you because of your honesty and obvious livers of horses!❤😊
@@lindamutch191 thank you so much. So kind of you. 😊
I meant to say thankyou for saying what many of us think. I detect a bit of a British accent as I'm one. I've been around horses all my life and whenever money is involved it's always the horse that suffers. There are so many of these rescuers now but it hasn't changed one thing. I'd be campaigning on these Auctions they are horse hell. I wish u well it's a pleasure to hear sense on this subject
@suemaher5282 You're all right. I am in English, although I've been living in the US for a long time. These mass bailing horse rescues are out of control. Thank you so much for supporting my mission to throw some light on the issue.
Hello 👋 🎉🎉🎉
wtf is this video
this aint training 101 this is abusing 101
this is a video that was sent to us. We don't know who the person is but complete abuse and cruelty let alone a lack of knowledge regarding horses.
@@anaridenour8601 you are right. This is not training it is IMO natural horsemanship ( Perelli et al) gone crazy. No idea who the person is. The video was sent to us.
You do a great Work and I follow you on Facebook too ❤️ Liane 🇩🇪
Thanks so much 😊
Thank you for what you do ❤️ Liane 🇩🇪
Thank you for your support Liane! ❤
Is it just me or did this video make zero sense?
Out of context I agree it likely doesn't make sense. This is one of several videos about horse rescues that mass bail horse from "kill pens". And I did get the year wrong. Should have said December 2023 instead of December 2024. What can I say, I'm human and make errors. :)
Love your videos. Have owned horses for 45 years. I agree with opinions and it’s so nice to hear someone thinks like me. The horse world certainly is an eye opener. There are some crappy people in this industry sadly. Thankyou for your efforts in bringing peoples awareness to these issues x
Thank you so much for the kind words. I am hoping to spread awareness of this type of trust/consent based training to help people understand there is no need for fear or pain. Thank you for supporting us. :)
December of 2024? are we predicting the future?
Oops. I wish I could.🤔😀 I should have said 2023.
Will you seo your channel videos? Views, likes, comments and subscriptions are required
How are you with research?
How can I help
The explanations from these rescues regarding the technology don’t line up. It is impossible to use an excel spreadsheet? So they need an app? That seems weird. Also, the microchip isn’t sending a signal to a satellite to be tracked by a cellphone at any time. The technology they describe doesn’t exist. Weird sketchy answers from them! 3:37
You are absolutely right. Microchips can only give the information that is programmed into them (microchip number that is registered in a remote database) They can also record an animal's temperature but that is just a heat sensor.
Keep up the good work
we intent to. Thank you.
Grifters are everywhere - ugh! Interested to hear more of this series.
She's a pretty girl!
She is indeed. She is looking so much better that when her previous owners relinquished her in January 2024. :)
Wow! Willow has made a lot in of progress!
As a retired trainer and competition rider myself, I took on a young TB who was bred for racing but proved to be not up to standard. He was acquired by a complete novice owner and was surrendered into rescue as dangerous. He ended up with me as I had just lost one of mine well before their time so we were therapeutic for each other. He wasn't dangerous just unsure and had gone a bit wild and it has taken a considerable amount of time to win his trust going at his pace. 3 years on and he follows me like a dog, so every minute spent with him was worth it and I would not change a second of it Time is everything, along with patience and getting to know the unique personality of the horse you are working with and applying methods that suit that particular horse because one size does not fit all so well done you.
You are absolutely right. Thank you for taking such good care of your horse. Horses understand more than we will ever know.
It’s easy to just talk and give your opinion. Wrong is wrong but the crap and judgement coming from you and others you need to get a life. Please!
Watch Dressage Hub she has been sharing videos of abuse for a long time
This behavior is not a teaching experience it is dominance experience, and speaks to how humans consider themselves. Which does not say much about humans!
APPALLING 😮
Suggestion. Write out what you want to say in advance so that you can eliminate the”ums “and struggling for words. I agree with your message but at times it is difficult to listen to you.
Thanks for the suggestion. :)
Exactly! This was no "moment" for this perp, it was clearly something she did as a matter of course. There are many other photos of her riding her horses wiyh blue tongues hanging out of their frothing mouths. The FEI can pretend their outrage and ignorance but they are complicit and have been awarding and encouraging not only Charlotte but many other abusers ( not only allowing them to compete with blue-tongued, frothing mouth horses but awarding them the highest prizes and prestige. Yet every time someone is caught abusing the horses outside of the show ring, they put on their fake outrage or disapproval and go on as usual.
If you have a horse in your rescue of the quality that Charlotte produces then I would be amazed.
@@Golden1989-days I'm not sure why the quality of the horse makes a difference to how they are treated.
And you're telling me that's the first time ever Charlotte has whipped a horse?
@@andrewb2475 not at all. She has probably been training like this for years. It's just the first time that someone has made it public.
@@canhamfarmhorserescue Pity Valegro cannot speak.
You are so right in your comments. I have been at 8 liverys with my horse and seen abuse in every yard ive been in. No one ever says a word and believe what they do is ok. This is not an exception, its common.
@@tracymorgan9907 We can only hope that some good comes out of this and encourages people to speak up.
This horse was not hurt. Does anyone know anything about this horse? Did it eat it up its next feed. Was it traumatised? How did it go on? Did this have any impact upon its life? This incident may look bad but it is so far from cruelty as to be laughable. Go watch a R.S.P.C.A. or Brooke Hospital advertisement for funds and you will proper cruelty and neglect. I am not a dressage follower but I know that what Charlotte was doing was to encourage the horse to go forward. It is what a long tom was designed for. Get a life, you people. If you really care about the welfare of horses and animals donate big to charities that rescue and care for neglected and abused horses. Stop crying crocodile tears.
Well that’s for the investigation to decide isn’t it. But for me, as an admirer of CD’s ability in the dressage arena, there is a chilling callousness about the treatment of this horse that is impossible to come to terms with. Yes he might have gone home and eaten up and wondered what that was all about, but that doesn’t justify his treatment in any way.
That is not a long tom whip and she was not attempting to encourage the horse to go forward but to increase the hind leg action in the canter which this approach did not achieve.
@@keithknight1686 you are entitled to your opinion but just to be clear we are a horse rescue charity and I can assure you I have seen abuse and neglect that once seen cannot be unseen. While this is not the worst of the worst it is still abuse. Do you think that whip is not hurting the horse? As for Charlotte, when you are a public figure, who influences young dressage riders or trainers, you better be beyond reproach. If not, you must accept the criticism and outcry over your actions and be truly apologetic not just to your peers, the public and the authorities but to the victim.
Indeed.
How about we try an experiment. As you're doing your job, whatever it is, your boss whips you for every typo, every time your eyes leave your work, and then every flinch. Not just once but all day every day. Let me know how you get on.
That wonderful horse just tried to do his job, it was so sad
@@deborahrich2666 it is sad. The horse does not understand what's being asked of him. Not a good way to train a horse.
I am a breeder and I addressed this Dujardin thing within my community of breeders and mostly they defend her and called people like me keyboard bullies just because I said that no matter who abuses an animal and in this case a horse should be suspended for long periods from approaching them. I added that this is exactly the behavior we should stamp out and by no means Charlotte made a “mistake”, she is a professional rider and she knew what she was doing. Somebody taught her this practice and she continues it. Even a veterinarian “mindful of animal well being” defended her all the way and the same expert in well being of horses never mentioned once the well being of that particular horse. They think that by defending a famous rider, part of their inner circle, they defend the industry, but they are wrong. One day these people will cause heavy damage to the horse sector
Saying and doing the right thing does not make you a "keyboard bully". Treating horses, or any animal, like this is unexcusable. But, wait. It's just a horse so that makes it OK. Now if someone repeatedly whipped a dog everyone would be calling them out and likely reporting it to the relevant authorities. 🤔🤨🙄
Also missing is an apology to the student. I can only imagine the impact of watching your idol whipping your horse during a training session and perhaps thinking that was normal. It sounded like at one point she expressed concern and was dismissed by Charlotte.
@@karenwill4825 I didn't hear that but the horse sure as heck showed concern by kicking out at whip.
Actually, I have never been a fan of King Charles for beating his Polo ponies when they did not perform as expected during matches. Thankfully, he no longer rides!
@@JeannetteShoreland unfortunately that is rampant throughout Polo and his sons have been shown to draw blood too.
He may not but he still allows his Royal Guard horses to be abused daily by all the heavy metal they are forced to wear in their soft mouths for hours and having to stand unnaturally also for hours. It's tradition, approved and insisted on by his mother, the late Queen. But tradition does not have the horses welfare at heart. It's show. It's supposedly to protect the Royalty. I have yet to see a calm, comfortable horse on guard. They are all throwing their heads about, chewing and mouthing, trying to dislodge the bits. But what would I know? And how do you change tradition? I can't watch any more. Let's hope horse welfare becomes more prominent in our thinking.
Also the person filming this grotesque video who was laughing and the person riding the horse also have to take blame!
It's a good thing I wasn't there. Criminal.
What would you have done?
@@keithknight1686 if I were there I would call them out. Question that training right away.
@@virginiawilkinson5038 Good. At least you are now merely questioning the training, which we all would do, including myself. The use of criminal to describe Charlotte was over-the-top. She made an error of judgement, something we are all guilty of from time to time, including when we are around or working with horses. I hate abuse of animals as much as you do. We currently care for 5-cats that came to us from off the street. What I saw on that video was not abuse and I do not believe the horse was hurt in any way and may have learned to go forward more generously than he was wanting to. Just don't blow this out-of-proportion because the negative publicity will come to haunt everyone who works with horses and you cannot tar everyone with the same brush, which seems to be happening.
Thank you for calling her out. I might believe that it was out of character if she had said something about feeling bad for the horse in the apology. But you are absolutely right. She's sorry she got caught. I hope this follows her for the rest of her life. And yay for that person who saw something hideous and cruel and did the right thing with a phone camera.
@@LUSHKA999 oh most definitely this is not the first time. Just the first time video has surfaced.
@@canhamfarmhorserescue You knew that and said nothing all these years.
@@keithknight1686 I think we all know what goes on behind the scenes when training these horses but knowing and having proof are entirely different. It is not just Charlotte doing this it's all the people she and others have learned from over the years. The culture regarding horse training needs to change and in a upside down way perhaps Charlotte's aggressive behaviour toward this horse will be the catalyst to change.
@@canhamfarmhorserescue I have no objection to your description of Charlotte's behaviour as 'aggressive'. My main objection to the comments on your channel and others was the use of 'cruel'. If her actions are deemed 'cruel' then we are on a slide towards the woke culture of raising your voice becomes an act of 'cruelty'. I would like to know how World Horse Welfare would rate this 'scandal' against what they must deal with on a daily basis. I am sure you, too, must have true-life stories of horses treated far worse than this 4-year-old, though he is eight now.
@@canhamfarmhorserescue
she is a monster, laughing while she's abusing a creature who has no recourse.
Completely agree with you.
Glad to see you addressing this. I got a very distressed call from my grandmother yesterday. I had to reassure her that hitting an animal like this is not appropriate, but unfortunately is the reason why horse rescues like Canham Farm Horse Rescue exists. I heard the laughter as the poor horse was desperately guessing what it could do to avoid being hit. It is very illuminating that she doesn’t apologize for being cruel to the horse, but apologies to her sponsors. Ick. This person should lose their metals. The short competition ban isn’t enough. Imagine the toxic training behaviors Charlotte has taught other horse caretakers going to her for expertise. How many people have been taught to train their horses using this technique? It’s a shame.
@@iluve2laugh indeed. I believe she stated it was a one off but I highly doubt it.
If you think what you saw on the video was an act of cruelty then you live in a fool's paradise. Watch R.S.P.C.A. and Brooke Hospital advertisements for funds, there you will see cruelty and neglect. Charlotte was being lazy whilst attempting to get a sluggish horse to go forward, something a dressage horse must do. It is what a long tom was designed for. By God, very soon farmers will not be allowed to use dogs to bring in the sheep in case of them gets bitten, the blind will not allowed a dog incase in being blind he might step on the dog's paw. This is a very slippery slope for all equestrian sports and you lot seem keener on proving good, caring people you are rather seeing this as someone, 4-years-ago, who make an error of judgement. In a culture of woke, hypocrites thrive.
Bullying an animal WTF!!!!
More than bullying. This is abuse!
@canhamfarmhorserescue distinction without a difference but whatever floats your boat. Bullying IS abuse
Its fn awful

Your welcome and thankyou so much my darling. I don't want anything at all. Just for someone to listen. She's a very experienced horse. Trauma comes with experience. Okay Contact me. There you go there's your help. Lovely regards. Chris James.
Hi me too. Neurological. I can help best. I made video. Perth WA. Chris James. Australia. Somehow organise a call. Neurological disorders. I have dystonia. I know all what's happened. She's traumatised and make sure she doesn't see another 🐻. .. Yet... Okay so here's the go. Blood test. DNA test. (Find all species variants in her breed). (I'll explain later)... We are going to need to chat. Get me over there would be the best thing. Olay so also yes. DO NOT. AND PISTEN. LISTEN. Do not touch the right side yet. Your doing so great and it's important your careful who she is around. When you find the spot(s) that are triggers for the involuntary movements. Draw around your hand on her coat.. You need to do gentle tapping. Okay okay. I'll be in touch with the rest. She is a lucky horse. And I'm even luckier we get to be reunited. I'm an unofficial member of MENSA (High IQ) SORRY, I had to toot my horn for a sec there.
This does not create a positive experience for that horse at all. Hobbles should teach a horse not to panic in situations where their legs are caught. Instead, this person has created more panic by associating it with stress
Exactly
I’m training my mule to be ridden. I’ve ridden him once. Practiced mounting 8 times. He gets anxious when I put weight in the stirrup for mounting. Yet he is fine if I mount from the block without using stirrups. Idk how to teach him its ok to use stirrups 😧
Is she blind in one eye?
Hello! It would be much easier if she was but the vet checked her and her vision seems fine in both eyes. Something has definitely happened to her in the past but we will likely never know what. We just continue to work with her slowly. We also have the chiropractor coming to check her too. :)
Just talk to the chiro. Don't let him touch her yet and let me know. Keep me updated. Not blind in one eye. Yet.
This must be approached with Quantanalysis. No touching yet.

The point of this is?
Who knows. They say it's to hobble train the horse but it looks more like abuse to me. 😀
