Pirelli scorpion AT Plus talking points review
Are they quiet for commuting??
@gilbertrinconII very quiet and smooth for an all terrain. Even better than the Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws that I had on my other Ram. The only other AT tire that I've used that is really quiet and smooth is the Cooper Discoverer AT3, but I think the Scorpions are better off road.
@@JRs-guitars Perfect. I appreciate the review. I’m still on the factory tires coming up on 45k miles. I had the pirelli scorpion all terrain in the past but could not remember how quiet they were. Thank you sir.
@@gilbertrinconII you're very welcome
Hey this is definitely a really good review! Just wondering it's been a year since you put this video out do you still use this amp head and how is it been in terms of reliability? The reason I ask is that I've recently purchased one but I'm having some reliability problems straight out of the gate and I'm kind of hoping it's just a one-off.
@msi1985 thanks for watching! Sorry you're having issues, what going on with it? I've put a lot of hours on the stealth and kept the bias set at about 48mV on the power tubes. Haven't had a single issue yet, thankfully.
@@JRs-guitars I checked the bias of the tubes yesterday they were at 40 millivolts, the only adjustment I did was raising it up to 50 mv. I'm just having a lot of noise floor issues so without anything connected on the blue or red Channel as soon as I get the volume or gain past 3/10 it becomes very loud and harsh on my ears. If I turn it up really loud it's not bad while I'm playing, but as soon as I stop playing even with the guitar unplugged it's just unbearable. I made a video to demonstrate but my local guitar shop says oh it just sounds like a guitar amp to me. ruclips.net/video/71NpBEeue3w/видео.htmlsi=2dAlXWxVkV2xcRNO
@msi1985 that actually sounds pretty excessive. The EVH amps will always have white noise and a little hiss. But that's a lot of hiss. First thing I'd do is if you got it brand new...reach out to the seller and let them know you need all new preamp tubes, because that's usually the culprit with extreme hiss. Next, try using different outlets...maybe even with a surge protector. Next...a noise gate or noise suppressor in the loop will solve any remaining idle noise.
@@JRs-guitars yeah I appreciate you checking the video out I've already got it in for service with our local retailer I live in Canada so it's a company called long and McQuade. I was a little bit put off because when we ran it into the store they compared it to a 5150 iconic that was used. It had a little bit of white noise in the background as well but not nearly as loud as my amp. So they kind of rolled their eyes at me like I'm being overly picky.... It's just surprising that literally overnight the amp went from having such a small amount of white noise on the blue and red channel to an absurdly large amount. I recorded a few tracks with it and play them back for the store to demonstrate what the amp sounded like Idle before versus now. Didn't seem to change their minds much so they're going to look at testing the preamps and a few other filter caps and capacitors inside the unit. The amps only a week old so I guess there is a warranty on the tubes themselves. Thank you again very much for checking into this I'll keep looking into the issue as I really do enjoy the amp sound
is it worth getting bro!!?
@59plexi I think it's worth getting if you have the right speaker cab for it and if you're not looking to spend more than $1k.
Sounds pretty good. I am a low budget person, just ordered a Joyo Bantamp II Zombie along with a 12 in cabinet (HB), I can't wait, the delivery guy should be here in some minutes/hours. But later I'd like to buy different amps. I know I should use software instead, I bought a lot of them; they're good but are noisy af. :( It is might because of the PC, I don't know.
@TheCsabi86 nice! I do still recommend some sort of boost pedal to tighten up the tone. A 6 band EQ pedal is nice to have as well since there isn't an active EQ on the Joyo. As far as software goes...never liked it. I don't think any software can replicate the feel of a solid guitar amp. Especially a tube amp.
Have you seen my videos on the Joyo Zombie?
Thank you for this. I was looking for my first tuner pedal and was astounded by tuner pedals costing up to $100. I ran across this Ibanez pedal and checked out your review. Thanks.
@philipnalls you're very welcome. Happy to help. I've seen tuners costing almost $200, which is outrageous.
Dude yo dont nothing about amps which are good or bad ask better to ask a amp tech
@richardmcgruder5437 cool story bro. I have no idea what you said because your English is so bad 🤣
Peavy and 5150 and 6505 and mesa stay away from them they are MONEY PITS
I’m a bedroom player and play lots of different genres, from Metallica to Madonna and i have the 15 TVP AND I LOVE IT. It covers everything!
@iliana_b great amps. We just finished a recording sessesion and this is what I used, but mic'd instead of use the emulated output. Have you checked out the newer Silverline series?
@@JRs-guitars awesome! I've seen some reviews on RUclips but haven't had the chance to try one out myself.
I‘ve just bought a H&K 4x12 with g12L 35 celestions. Any chance that your 4x12 there has the same speakers? Read somewhere that they are close to greenbacks, but it sounds a bit muddy with my Zombie XL, so I‘m thinking TS instead of EQ in FX loop?
@decaenofficial my 412 has the greenbacks. The G12Ls are similar to the 70/80s but a little smoother. I'd highly recommend a TS or boost with gain at 0 out in front. A EQ in the loop is still a good idea later on to help tame certain frequencies.
@@JRs-guitars I‘ve got a Flamma FC07 OD, will give it a try Sunday! I really couldn‘t find many reviews of the G12L 35, but they seem nice, especially with cleans. Got the Cab for 90€.. Thanks for the reply!
I got the head unit, had to build a cab, then looking up speakers, not a great choice, baring in mind this is a 4 ohm setup and the speakers are not as guitar speakers, they are full frequency speakers designed for this unit, so have to find the original speakers before I can turn it on, like having cake but tied up and unable to enjoy, hopefully this week I will have it up and running, got the foot switch coming this week. Great video, give a taste of what I shall soon enjoy :)
@ChayBode that is correct....4ohm mono or 8 ohm stereo for the head version. I had the same amp and used a H&K cab with it. But you can also use a 8ohm mono cab as well...you just won't get the full 100 watts from the head.
@@JRs-guitars The 100w head is open to most speakers, I have the amp out of a Blackstar TVP iD260 which would have come in a cab with 2 12 inch Blackstar 70w 4 ohm speakers like your complete amp, but seller stripped it out of the cab and I have made a cab and now it is a head unit, but will only work as intended with original speakers, which are full range and have Neodymium magnets unlike most other guitar speakers! The speaker design would match the tone shaping of this amp perfectly, whereas the 100TVP head unit would be designed to accommodate any speaker setup but loses the edge on tonal quality of the TVP260 which is stereo and matched to it's speakers. I have two 12in 16ohms marshall goldbacks, but they would suck the life out of the amp so looking to buy the original speaker set and be happy :)
Leaving the reverb on "all of the time" in a band setting while you are blended in with the entire band would be fine and not having a switch to turn it off or on is a moot point in that scenario, IMO. Once everything is mixed it's not an issue to have it on or off. Plus, the reverb is best set at around 2-3 on this head anyways. I just got this head two days ago. I really like it a lot compared to the Marshall JCM 900 Hi Gain Dual Reverb I just sold to get this.
@markusaurelius777 agreed, leaving the reverb on is fine, but sometimes you want the ability to turn it off in a pinch depending on music genre.
i have the combo version of this amp and I have to put the mids up to 6 7 it's a loud amp with a ton of gain the resonance and presence knobs actually do something very noticeable the only thing i'm confused about is i have to be on channel 1 when shutting off the amp if not i won't hear that click you know the click you hear when turning off a tube amp maybe it's the SS board they have on here? i dunno i'm not an amp tech this amp confused me for a bit until i realized that i had to turn up the mids every knob on this amp actually does something very responsive the boost really can boost the only other thing that's making me wonder is that push button right beside the input what does it do? thanks
Is that the tubemeister 2x12 cab? How do you like it
@wstn7938 yes it is. V30 speakers with a good amount of bass. It's a fantastic alternative to a Mesa 212. Pairs very well with the MT15 since this amp doesn't have a resonance control.
@@JRs-guitars is this amp too loud for bedroom use? Will you need an attenuator ?
@wstn7938 honestly...yes. it's ridiculously loud, even on the half power setting. Mine stays in the studio. If you're looking for a bedroom all tube amp, there are better options.
@@JRs-guitars what would you recommend
@wstn7938 if it has to be all tube...look into the Peavey invective mh, EVH LBX-S, and Engl Fireball 25. If you're ok with a hybrid amp head...check out the Joyo Zombie 2. I have a couple videos on that one.
great demo, Thx bro
I have an LTD MH1000 Evertune. It is an excellent guitar for recording. I can rely on it 100% never to go out of tune whilst recording. Unlike my other guitars where I am constantly checking the tuning between takes. First thing I did when I bought the guitar was the EMG 24v pickup mod. To my ears it has made a big difference to pickup dynamics. I definately recommend the mod.
@billyboy1872 I actually have the 24v mod and it's nice, but I may swap out the bridge pickup for an SD Blackout.
@@JRs-guitars The SD Blackout in this guitar will sound incredible. If you do swap it out, let me know how it sounds. I will more than likely do the same.
Great video but as an extra disclaimer, the bias setting is intended to be set at source voltage of 120v, the higher the wall voltage the larger your dcmv are and the lower you go the lower your dcmv in response. Example, my wall voltage is everywhere in my home so I use a Brown Box to stay around 120v but never nail it. If you do the math for plate dissipation that the tubes are around 50ish % when set to the recommended bias value according to the diagram. These amps are intended to be set by this method and not the plate dissipation method for tube performance, the circuit is modified for the tone we are looking for with these amps and has those rules/method. Hope that’s useful and check your wall voltage over time, a higher bias setting to me sounds thicker and less is more sharp.
Thanks for adding that! Very true. And the reason a lower bias setting sounds sharper is because of the lower voltage results in a cooler tube... literally. This is where the current isn't being carried as efficiently but results in a longer power tube life. The recommended mV setting is 30 mV per side, which results in the fuller sound but shorter tube life.
@@JRs-guitars since these tubes are already cold biased the plate voltage is set to be high, so actually biasing a little hotter will lower plate voltages on 5150/6505 amps. There’s a thing where the tubes are too cold but plate voltage is high which will cause tubes to fail quick much like an higher bias voltage on a normal amp design. Surprisingly setting to spec may increase your tube life since we’re not following plate dissipation rules due to a modified/non traditional circuit. Maybe that clears that up, just trying to help inform because I had strange results when trying different biasing and observing via trial and error. My heads the 50 watt el34 and spec for 120v source is 45dcmv which I set exactly. I’m going to bias next check to 50dcmv but I will always be under 120v reference using a Brown Box to regulate.
@springsgaming7551 that's normally an issue found on Cathode biased tube amps. Plate dissipation voltage is already taken into account at the EVH factory. If there was a concern that plate voltage would be too high from setting the bias low...they would keep it at 46 - 50 MV at the factory instead of 38 - 40. But any lower than 34/32 then you might run the risk of the plate heat issue. That's just my thought on it though.
@@JRs-guitars agreed, coming back a few months now I biased at 118v to 50dcmv at the bias resistor (combined power tube measurement) and found good results. I tend to like a more spongy feel so adding some hotter tubed and sagging the source voltage I was able to achieve that, it’s really mild if you think about it but it gave me what I was after. The more I play my el34 50 watt I think I’m more of a peavy 6505 guy because I want the mids they have but the 5150s always seem brighter due to the voicing.
@springsgaming7551 I always thought the same thing too. I like a slight spongy compression as well. Makes me miss my Peavey 3120 I had years ago, even my stealth can't compete with what that thing delivered lol.
The designer (James Brown) said the "burn" switches from modern 5150III gain, to more old school Peavy 5150 type gain. That's it.
I apologize, but you're incorrect. James Brown and I have already discussed the burn switch. It is a button that activates the "modeled" version of the 5150-IIIs red channel. Those were his words. Without the burn engaged it's similar to the OG Peavey 5150 gain structure.
@@JRs-guitars That's what I said!
@AndyK.23 you had it backwards. But I see what you meant to say 😉
This is an amazing amp…..! You have to spend some time eq-ing it , but you can get a lot of different sounds out of it…. On the neck pickup on a Les Paul , you can get that beautiful woody tone… With the overdrive engaged , but set fairly low , base and resonance set low , high and presence up , you can get a decent plexi tone….. It really covers a lot of ground…. It doesn’t sound solid state , IMHO…. Yes , it’s a hybrid preamp , but it feels like a genuine tube amp to me…. I think they did an excellent job with this amp…. 👍
I think so too. You can't find a better amp at this price point.
Hey sir, how do I get noise coming out of my speaker, I just got the amp today and I have it hooked up to my speakers, have my guitar plugged in and there is no noise coming out, I don’t know what to do and I did what the manual said and nothing is happening, guitar is good, the speakers are still brand new, so I don’t know what to do ?
Let's start with the basics: 1. Has the amp been taken off of standby? 2. Have you matched the amp ohms output to the speaker cab ohms? 3. Look inside the amp: do you see all power tubes glowing close to evenly? 4. Turn off amp, Remove the covers for the two preamp tubes and make sure they are not broken and that they are also lighting up with the power on. 5. Have you tried all channels in both power modes with the volume slightly raised?
How is the mpg affected between the tires?
Hardly noticeable, the Pirelli Scorpion plus were the only ones that i noticed 1 mpg drop in the city. There's only 2 things that will affect mpg with tires: 1: if you go to mud terrain tires 2: if you move up to the heavy LT rated all terain or M/T tires instead of staying with P rated.

Alright, which amp am I using? 😁
Where off road?😂
Lol right! I swear that's way steeper in person. 😅
I have one of these now. Its great! There's tons of tone variation, takes pedals really well, its as loud as f#£&k and most importantly of all, it terrific fun.
Great amp. I have found that it is speaker dependent though.
@@JRs-guitars I just bought one yesterday. These are great through Marshall 1960A & B cabs, (which are already mid-rangey), plus I run an Ibanez Tube Screamer in the input, and an EQ and boost + delay in the effects loop. Just set up the EQ to compensate for the scooped mids and you're good to go. I also run a flanger and a noise gate through the input next to the Tube Screamer. I have yet to crank mine at band practice and tweak a bit. I just sold a Marshall JCM 900 to get this and I prefer the 5150 over it. Great video full of little tid-bits of info I was kind of aware of, except for the scooped mid comments. Cheers brother !!! I subbed.
I really like my 5881 loaded MT15. It's a great little amp for when you want a darker and smoother tone. It also has a pretty good vlean channel.
Agreed, great little amp that packs a huge punch!
@@JRs-guitars, they definitely pack a big punch. I'm glad I have one in my rig.
Think it's described as a hybrid pre amp so you are more than likely correct about the burn button.
Yessir, hybrid preamp and the burn is a modeled version of the 5150 III's red channel.
How are they in rain and snow
Rain and snow traction are really good, but the stopping distance in snow could be a little better.
I just bought one it will be here in 2 days...i hope it will be a good one !
Nice! Keep us posted!
what speakers?
V30s in a 212 H&K cab.
I've owned that 4 a year what noise gate are you using because that's better than mine
ISP Decimator II out front. For high volume, a cheap gate in the loop is a good idea too...even if it's just an Amazon brand or something.
I have this Joyo EQ as well as the Behringer EQ700 and let me tell you...the extra 6.4k freq and lvl control are nice on the Behringer but if you wanna put a 9v batt in it fugitt about it! And it's plastic!
I've owned a couple of Behringer pedals years ago...they all eventually fall apart. But if you need extra EQ control...the Sonicake 10 band EQ is a great pedal too.
@@JRs-guitars Funny you should say that...I just put in an offer of $38 for that Sonicake EQ on eBay! I also bought their Matribox II with an offer of $166 last month
@@dresdensinn6669nice!
Clicked on your vidja as it randomly popped up in my feed, didn't expect you to be rockin' a Schecter Damien Diamond which I just happen to have in my lap as I type this! I have the Platinum with a string-through. I just bought/received a Marshall DLS20CR...it's my 1st Marshall after 35yrs of playing guitar : )'
Awesome! I actually think the string through version is better because the Floyd Rose they use for the Damien platinum FR is a cheap one that always goes out of tune when I use it. But congrats in the Marshall...the DSL20HR is what I had for a while and it was a great amp.
What cab are you playing through?
H&K TM212 with V30 speakers.

Oh gosh glad I came across this review! I had the same problem with my ZW Wah, connection problem. AND! I was thinking to get this exact pedal. I’m new to Morley’s Wah. Thanks for helping me making a decision.
Happy to help. Keep in mind that Morley stopped making this pedal, so it's tough to find brand new, and that it's geared a little more towards rock instead of metal.
@@JRs-guitars thanks. I found a brand new at my local guitar shop here in Singapore. It’s been there for the longest time. I didn’t want to buy it cause my WAH was still working. Now it’s getting connectivity issues, I just had to try new ones. And I just love the idea of a spring back WAH.
@fadlyhans82 awesome! Yea the spring backs are the only style I use now, and they last a very long time.
Have blackstar never attempted to solve or improve the channel changing latency with a firmware update? Ive owned a few tvp's the katana including the artist and a line 6 catlayst and they all seem to suffer from it.
Sadly not, but with those multifunction footswitches..they're designed to change banks/functions and effects when you hold down the buttons which is the reason for the latency. It's like you can't have it both ways. They should just make a 2nd foorswitch that ONLY changes channels.
I'm ok with on the fact pedal makers today dare to ask 2 or 3 hundred bucks for a pedal you can find a clone at 60 bucks... I don't see why I would lost such amont of cash!?!
Likewise! There's no need to spend that much money on a pedal nowadays. Great time to be a guitarist.
Bought it 2 weeks ago with 1x12 V30. Returned next day, as it was too loud for home usage :(
Was the bass really loud?
@@JRs-guitars Joyo had volume on ~3-5% and this was max I can stand in my room.
@gryg666 that's why a lot of people use a EQ pedal in the loop....the V30 speaker has really loud lows and low mids.
+ 1 subscriber sir😎
I forgot to mention...the Emulated line output in the rear does actually work really well too.
Sounded great. Is this an amp that is feasible for home use? What boost do you use?
Thanks, I was using a Joyo Vintage OD pedal with the gain at 0, volume at 10. This can do home volume just fine, but at those levels you don't get the full power tube feel and sound. The EVH LBX-S (stealth) might be a better choice if you're only playing at home.
@@JRs-guitarsI have both..the LBX Stealth and the 50 watt Stealth and yes the LBX works better at lower volumes but sounds awesome cranked up too.
If you use a noise gate it will clamp some bass, a lot of your extra bass is your palm mutes ringing to much , a good noise gate can really help that
Thanks, I have a noise gate in the front, but I also added the Joyo 6 band EQ in the loop to add a little presence and cut the mids just a bit.
Have you ever tried running you send from your fx loop , your amps preamp into the return of an actual tube amp, I’d love to hear Themis amps preamp getting pushed with some real tube prower
I have with the original and it freekin slays !! I own both versions. Unfortunately with the new XL version the loop will not slave out like the original. The XL also has slight clean channel bleed through, turn both volumes down and engage the gain channel.. yup clean bleeds through.. It’s cool to have independent controls but… the original IMO is better and works properly. But yes .. I have slaved it and also the Firebrand into 100 watt solid state Randall’s and various tube amps.
Such a perfect amp
The amp sounds great, but I think the technique of this player is perfect, making it easy for an amp to be amazing. Anything would sound amazing with this playing.
@OssianOtt thank you, but in all honesty I'm really not an advanced player. I've just learned to use my playing style to my advantage and not vear off from that.
I have the caline 10 band eq pedal and the zombie 2 and they work pretty good together
I have both of those also but haven't combined them...I don't think..well I prolly did but just don't remember ; )
The Bantamp series are freekin killer for the money. I own several including the original Zombie and the XL. The Blue Jay is phenomenal and (2) make a great stereo pedal platform 1)That short cable with two right angles is in fact the speaker cable 2)The XL effects loop is different from the original. My XL will NOT slave out like all my others using send 3)There is some clean channel bleed into gain channel. Turn both volumes down all the way and be on gain channel… hit your strings… did ya get clean sound still? 4)These 20 watt monsters LOVE a 8ohm 2x12 and REALLY push a 4x12 wired mono 8 ohms. Plenty loud
Thanks for clarifying on what that cable is, now I can use it! I forgot about the XL and BlueJay models. But it is a great amp for the money.
Oh man, that's good to know about the newer XL models not being able to send out to a separate power amp. I have the original Zombie and VIVO, and the sound awesome running into my Orange Pedal Baby 100.
What's the difference between Zombie I and II?

Getting the Wildpeak AT4W for my next set of tires! Currently running the Cooper Discoverer AT3, great tires but I wanted something much more aggressive since I live out in the country. I had BFGs before, not impressed by them at all, KO3 looks promising but my mind is set on AT4W.
Same thoughts here! I just bought a new set of Wildpeak AT3W right before Falken came out with the AT4W lol. They look like they'll be solid!
I just watched your video with the sonic cake Eq i was thinking im going to get me 1sonic cake but now I'm thinking to get me 2 joyos two for the price of one😂😂😂
They're both great pedals....the only reason to get the sonicake is if you really need more options, need a volume control...and hate your amp lol. Otherwise you can get two different Joyo pedals for the price of one Boss. I've had that Joyo OD boost pedal for 2 years and haven't had a single issue.
@@JRs-guitars oh yes I have the drive core from joyo that pedal rocks and I don't know about the boss Eq I seen comments that is to noise
@jcalzada74 sometimes it depends on the amp when a EQ pedal makes noise. That EVH iconic I had hated OD pedals and would hear a loud pop everytime I turned one on. Also...Joyo makes another pedal called the Ultimate Drive which is really nice.
Hello. What is better to take: Katana 100 mk2 or blackstar ID 100 TVP + eminence v128?
If you're going for high gain I'd pick the Blackstar...even if it's the Silverline series. If you're not looking for high gain metal, then I'd actually choose the Katana MK2 or even the Katana Artist series head. Those speakers will not make a huge difference due to being modeling amps.
