It's so interesting seeing how other countries' university application systems work. I am from South Africa, and here, most universities look purely at grades in your final exam in year 11. It's a lotttt of pressure to perform as well as possible, and it's almost a one-shot thing. You either mis it or get it. It doesn't really matter how much extra curriculars you do; unis just aren't interested in that. I for example hold quite a few leadership postions in my school and it takes up a lot of my time, so sometimes it's a little discouraging becuase of the fact that, in the long run, it doesn't really matter. I guess it also depends on what course you are trying to get accepted for. My goal is ingeneuring or something STEM, and for those courses, you get an overall score (purely academic) out of 800, and that decides everything.

This is why I started with my safety schools first yesterday I applied to two colleges and got accepted. Of course I am a student with a 3.9 which means that I am a low achiever among the high achievers, but I am a high achiever among the low medium achievers, which means I feel kind of insecure about how low achieving I am comp to the nerdy kids. However, now that I have a boost to my ego, knowing that I can apply to college and get in, I will be applying for Harvard maybe Yale and Emory as well
