A video to assist in wiring up and operating your plan 107 external, ideally use this in conjunction with the sister video showing a plan 105 internal system. Link to the N diagrams mentioned here www.samhallas.co.uk/repository/n_diagrams/4000/
GPO/BT Connection boxes and sockets
Просмотров 6087 месяцев назад
A boring video about how your landline phone would have been connected in the distant past. Shown in the video are the Jack 620/1/2A which were the original “new” sockets introduced in 1981 when it became possible to purchase a telephone rather than rent it.
BT Ambassador ESS (Electronic Switching System)
Просмотров 557 месяцев назад
A small two-line four extension switching system from the early 1980s which replaced intercommunication systems such as the GPO Planset and Ericsson Plan systems.
GPO Plan 107 (External) extension system
Просмотров 1327 месяцев назад
The GPO (Later BT) Plan 107 extension system, a telephone system with intercommunication and call transfer facilities, used in businesses in the 1960 up to the early 1980s. This demonstration is for the system which had one external extension telephone which would be situated in a building some distance from the main unit, possibly even in another town or village within the same exchange area.

Just some more bad piano playing ;-) this was a sort of request from a Facebook friend.
Your Ambassador rings with a much faster pace than mine! And I too have a external extension adapter - very useful for bringing the answerphone into circuit.
Thank you for this video 👍
another reason GPO insisted on a separate bell-set on the plug system, was to allow engineers to test the line remotely even with the phone unplugged. (they were looking for the resistance/capacitance of internal components).
I find stuff like this really interesting. Ive got an old connection in my hallway that's the same size as a single socket, and has a square bung coves in the middle where a phone would connect, but it's wired to a modern socket with broadband filter in my living room. No longer used since switching to full fibre. My flat was built in 1975.
How did the out of service resistor work?
It just substituted the bell motor/coil when the telephone was unplugged from the socket, I think it was there more to adsorb the incoming ringing current when the phone was disconnected, it just meant that a caller would receive a ringing tone and think that there was no one at home.
And so it wouldn't fail a line test if a phone wasn't connected @@AndiiT
@@wisteela Yes, you'd still receive ringing tone even if the line was completely dis, but it would be flagged as faulty on routine tests
@@wisteela correct
@@TheChipmunk2008 the ringing tone, and the ringing current were supplied from 2 different systems in the exchange, hence that phenomonom
Thank you very interesting.
Do you have a separate breakfast table? Asking for a friend!
No, it's just easier to do the demos in the kitchen than it is in my workshop due to space limitations.
Nice history, there as also the very early bakelite lightning arrestor connection boxes
Who cares
@@robatkinson8581Clearly you have no sense of humour then 😅
Thank you Andy, this video is really helpful as I’m trying to set up my planset a but I have mine in cream colour 😊 are you running your on a landline and which phone are you working from? Many thanks
In the video, I'm using a couple of my C*net lines via a Linksys PAP2 ATA. Any PBX which provides two wire connections on its extension ports would also suffice as a suitable exchange line source/emulation.
@@AndiiT thank you 👍 that answered my question
