If you feel in your heart, that slavery is immoral then that is the message that you should be sending to everyone. I’m sorry there are no excuses for such action.
For me, it's not so much a question of why God didn't abolish slavery, or outlaw it, it's why didn't He at least tell us it was wrong, a sin, or against His will? That was done with hundreds of things in the Bible, including Jesus about divorce as you pointed out. But never about slavery itself. I've never understood that. And would you say that America condoned slavery? Because it seems to me that your argument would mean that they did not. They only regulated it?
We are saved by faith, an obedient faith, not a dead faith and we become children of God by faith when we are baptized into Christ, Gal 3:26-27
