Extract your own Honey | Beequip NZ Extraction Pack
It looks great and much healthy for the beekeeper and even for the bees but the price is way very high
Do you sell those? Can you ship those to the United States?
We can’t sell soaked strips yet in USA but we do sell a lot of the dry strips and beekeepers soak them with our recipe. Check the description for links to our website.
11:19 - I bought the kit. Question: when saving the left over solution for later, does it degrade having mixed OA and glycerine? Any time frame that it would need to be used in? I think I read Randy Oliver talking about OA converting to oxalate
It is quite okay to reuse it up to 6 months later if it has been stored in an airtight container and is properly reheated and mixed before re-use.
Isn't it 50-50?
Earlier this year we did a trial with the cardboard strips soaked in 50:50 solution and the results were not as good as when we used 40:60. We have used 40:60 (OA/Glyc) strips in our hives for 4 years with great success. Randy Oliver did a field trial in 2022 with our strips soaked in 40:60 solution and achieved very good results. They are published on his website.
Hi from central Otago 👋 yeah I'm ordering this tomorrow morning 😂 I just hope the blasted courier takes better care of this box than the apiguard tubs I got from you guys a couple of weeks ago 😂 they must have dropped something heavy on them, I literally had to unfold the tubs 😳 but hey they didn't burst👍🤣 and they did a fantastic job of clearing up the chalkbrood I had too, but I think I might send you up a plastic tub to put them in for my next order😅, central Otago courier drivers are rough👍🤣 great video and timely, I've been talking to other beekeepers about this and they swear by it and also recommended I get it from you guys 👍👋

There is a old Roman book about bee keeping written in the year 48 AC curious back then they used also acids treatments
Wow, that is interesting. Could you please email me photos of the notes about it? russell@beequip.nz Was it written 48BC or 48AD?
Do you know the name of that book? Cheers.
Well made informational video.👍
Thanks 👍
Hope you ship to Canada.🤔
Yes, we have done it many times. Flick me an email and we can quote accordingly. russell@beequip.nz
Great video. Thanks Russell
You are very welcome
This is no good the rinse you did at the end i did this it leaked inside my machine got all the insolation wet in side now it wont heat up to more then 105 so i had to pull it apart pull out the insolation to let it dry do not turn upside down let the machine dry it out
I's sorry to hear you had this issue. The bowl shouldn’t leak into the insulation at all so you must have a sealing issue with the flange. Please contact us to discuss this further. Thanks!
Wow. Don’t bees prefer the inside of their hives to be dark?
Yes. These SpyHives are supplied with covers to keep the colony dark when not being viewed. But I have run an observation colony with no covers for 12 months with no issues.
Will this be got in india
We can ship to India.
Hi Lubomir. I use the sponges with KA and VG. Ittihad is the second use. Bees cover the sponge with propolis. Israrla it normal? Thanks for starling this method.
You stole the idea of a married couple from Serbia who came up with that idea and patented it, their version is still SF level for yours...
Oh hush. He didn't steal shit. You know how many bee keepers do this? Stop whining
Arnt bees attracted to light?. I have two wild bee hives at my hose, if a light is on after dark, they will go to the light like a moth.
I find them on the ground cold, so I have to move t hem into the sun so the can warm up.
Yes. The SpyHives come with clip-on covers to keep it dark inside when not being viewed.
doggo with six legs🥰
This is kind of random, but who ever shot and edited the video, that lil focus scroll across the bees at 1:44 was kind of cool.
I was told not to OA vaporize the honey supers. Is this correct?
It is okay to vaporize the brood boxes when there are honey supers present in NZ. Email me direct if you want a more comprehensive answer. russell@beequip.nz
Where do I buy one of these?
400bucks in germany
Had used these but found a build up of dead bees behind the screen like they had trouble cleaning the hive
This is the first time we have had this comment. We have the RobberGards on all our hives and never have this problem, even with just the 25mm opening. It would be nice to know why you have so many dead bees. There may be another factor involved.
But for $1500, kind of a rip off.
We haven't found an observation hive anywhere in the world that has all the features and benefits as SpyHive. It is designed as a nice and very functional piece of furniture to install in a house, school, zoo or Old People Rest Home, and operate as an awesome beehive for your whole lifetime. Excellent investment.
You can just build your own with wood and plexiglass. Just most likely would be stationary, as opposed to spinning. I’ve seen one just like that off the 126 in Ventura/Fillmore . Lol they built it and I guarantee it didn’t come anywhere near 1500$. Crazy. How much does material cost? 😂
Is cristal or plastic?
@@BrothasOnline in eu this would cost like 30$ max if you will to made it yourself, 1500$ is super fkn overpriced
For that price it better be diamond and platinum, maybe even a little 22k Peruvian gold. 😅@@raigelaa2683
When I was a Young boy......
Your father took you into the city, To see a marching band?
@gavinburnett91 how did you know??
I have seen the new smaller model. I own the full sized model. I think the full size one is good for commercial, but the smaller stripped down model is good for hobby users. They are still expensive, whichever model you chose. I think the extra cost for the full version is worth the money, despite being heavier - it is also more robust.
I own the full size but I'm getting the smaller model. It's an overall upgrade to the full size model. Better heat management, works for commercial beekeepers better due to the design. Make no mistake. It is an upgrade to the original. Not sure why they are still selling the og model
Bravo za video 👍😀
Can be used with other brands battery? Can be found in the US? Where? How much? Thank you.
Yes it works with most common batteries apart from Ryobi. Contact lorobbees.com to purchase in the US.
If your mite count is high you could try iceing sugar shake over the bees, or lionsmane sprinkle it on as well, and dried lavender or last resort a shook swarm? Vapours is definitely the way to go.
The background music is really annoying. I'm not wanting listen to music I information on varroa control. Only
Have you measured any resistance development by the mites by constant and frequent OA usage?
There have been no reports of any signs of varroa resistance to OA from any of our many beekeeper clients in NZ. We still get the same excellent mite drop with OAE strips in our hives now, as we did 4 years ago. Some scientists say that they don’t believe it is possible for the mites to get resistant to OA.
A very good tutorial. I bought an instant vap about a month back. I discovered when I did alcohol washes after pulling supers that I had some colonies with fairly heavy might loads. I have stopped using the chemical mite treatments and formic acid or Thymol because of problems in the past with queens shutting down. Both products will work but if the temperature is too high you get into trouble. I use sticky boards and hit all the hives in a yard every four days until the boards show clean three days after treatment. Usually that's three to five times. The hives keep going business as usual and no queens have stopped laying. In fact they start laying more when the mites are getting cleaned out. I haven't seen any problems with the bees that could be blamed on the OA. The machine is expensive but cheap compared to what the other treatments cost or the cost of a lost colony. Where I live the bees will go broodless about the end of November and I'll hit them again two or three times. That will get them through until spring buildup. The instant vap is a game changer
Thanks for your comments - much appreciated. Some great tips in there for sure! We agree - the InstantVap is a game changer!
Bought the same tool in USA. Doing the same. Need to pick up this yellow silicone thing to protect the metal. A bit expensive $37 here :( is it worth it?
It definitley helps to keep the unit clean. It does insulated it better and you really notice it on Windy days. If you have multiple apiaries it doesn't cool down as quick between them, conserving battery.
If only I could have one of these in my townhouse.
I love how she stuck her tongue out
I assume stainless will survive, but probably a good idea to wash frequently since oxalic acid is aggressive on iron
Can use OA in summer? because all know mites is brood
The Oxalic strips work great in summer. They can be used any time of the year, if it is warm enough for the bees to have brood frames.
Hi Russell. On average, how many doses would one battery manage to do before recharging. Thanks
Hello Paul It depends on the capacity of your batteries you will be using. The more Ah it has longer it will last. Also the larger the Dose, the more power it will use. Keep an eye out on our website for a new operating guide we will be releasing this week - it has battery life scenarios in it.
Brilliant! I got some of these a couple of months ago and they have been great! The video is good - I see now that I didn't need to worry about trying to get the screws to go through the wee screw holes, much easier to have tem screw in on either side of the plate! Cheers, thanks.
Appreciated the information but found it difficult to hear through the awful foreground music.
But smolle for hive mínimo 5frames
We have run a 2-frame observation hive like this for 3 years continuously. It works great and you can always see the queen.
I mean its not a production hive its sn observational hive for referencing and just display really. If youd want a honey hive then youd have other hives out placed in the usual boxes.. my only issue would be disturbing them being inside a house.. if you played any music or movie loud or created vibrations with a vacuum or had a dog or kids.. you can tap on a fishtank because they cant go anywhere. Bees can one day decide to jump ship and head to the next guys harvest or join colonies ..
@@Z-Ack Bees have no ears but they can hear. It has been shown by experimentation that honey bees can detect the air-particle movements associated with airborne sounds. Bees antenna have an area called Johnstons organ, that converts sound stimuli to neural impulses. Honey bees produce many frequencies of vibration and sound from less than 10 to more than 1000 Hz. So far it has been shown that they can detect/hear sound frequencies up to about 500 Hz
How do you prevent swarming with so little space. @@beequipnz6442
Hi..i have same rubber bottom in my hives…can put the instantvap pipe from the bottom door??
Yes, if you manage 2 things. 1. Ensure that none of the hot parts touch the rubber. A thin silicone sheet could make this easy. 2. Ensure the first 100mm of discharge is not directed at the rubber. After 100mm, the Oxalic Acid gas is not hot enough to damage anything.
Did you pay a lot for the 'music'?
God work
Where can l get the oxalic acid for bees
Sure - head to our website where you can buy online: beequip.nz/collections/oxalic-acid-solutions/products/oxalic-acid-crystals
Just brilliant...... All those thinking beekeepers are right behind you. You have a very big responsibility that must work. Your operation should be heralded by a fanfare of trumpets. What do the Authorities think about the success as regards the strips? I hope you don't mind me asking that question. Best of wishes Mick in the UK
Great question. The authorities haven’t commented... The NZ rules state:- Schedule 2 of the ACVM Regulations 2011 provides for an exemption from registration under the ACVM Act referred to as the ‘own use’ exemption. In a beekeeping context, the ‘own use’ exemption is commonly used when a beekeeper prepares and applies preparations containing generic substances, such as oxalic acid or formic acid, to their own hives for control of Varroa mites.
Awesome
