Why did Jesus have to meet Moses and Elijah on the Mount of Transfiguration?
The transfiguration of Jesus is one of the most mysterious and awe-inspiring events in the Gospels. But why did Moses and Elijah appear at that specific moment? Was it just symbolic, or is there a deeper reason?
In this video, we will uncover the powerful meaning behind this encounter. Moses and Elijah were not chosen at random; their presence points directly to Jesus’ identity and mission. This was no ordinary meeting-it was a divine affirmation of who Jesus is and what He came to accomplish. We’ll explore how this extraordinary moment connects to key events in the Old Testament, the significance of the Law and the Prophets, and how the voice of God from the cloud reveals a truth that cha...

WHY CAN'T GOD KILL SATAN AND THE FALLEN ANGELS?

WHY CAN'T GOD KILL SATAN AND THE FALLEN ANGELS?
Jesus went to paradise, in Abraham's bosom. There He preached to the "spirits in prison", Paradise, and led captivity captive, by leading the Old Testament saints into heaven. Also, he specifically said He hadn't yet ascended to the Father, and told Mary not to cling to Him.
Job chapter 4:15
Several things are missed in this video. One is that the transfiguration of Jesus connects back to how he is referred to in Luke 1:32 (for example) as "Son of the Most High." The Most High in Hebrew Scriptures is Yahweh and in the New Testament is the Father. As Son of the Most High, Jesus was in divine assembly as Yahweh's Son. Further, Moses is identified with the Exodus. In Luke 9:31 says, "They appeared in glory and were speaking of his DEPARTURE, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem." The Greek word for departure is where we got the word Exodus. John the Baptist (also in Luke 1) is the one who will come (Luke 1:17) with "the spirit and power of Elijah." And Elijah's return was speculated on because of Malachi's promises. With the same idea of the Divine Assembly, we see the appearance of the angel Gabriel who was sent to speak of John and of Jesus. The transfiguration of Jesus is nothing less than the revealing in human presence (and with the cloud) of the Son of the Most High who had come to bring about the Exodus of his people. And remember that Jesus was crucified during the Passover Festivals which speaks to the Exodus first of Israel, and then later of Jesus for the people he would free from slavery to sin and death, and not from Roman rule/dominion. All of this will later feature in this Jesus's Ascension to the Father to sit as his right hand. This will also bear on all that Paul says about God's believing people (both Jews and Gentiles) who not only died with Christ and rose with Christ, but also were seated in the heavenly places with Jesus. The bodily resurrection (Paul calls this the glorification of our bodies) is fitting believing humanity in Christ to be with him to co-rule with Christ in the renewal of all things. Those are my thoughts that should be included, especially in light of what else Luke himself told us about this Jesus, Son of the Most High.
Satan is pure evil and therefore God won't forgive him and the other demons and that's the reason why only humans hsve that privilege to be redeemed and forgiven for their sins
Two reasons I can think of: 1- Those were the only two prophets who experienced a deep fellowship with God in the top of a mountain (Sinai, Horeb, whatever), when they saw God face to face. So this speaks of Jesus identity as God (the Son) incarnated. They met Him on the top of a mountain once more and the Father's approval is heard once more: "listen to Him". 2- The letter to the Romans chapter 1 says: "the Law and the Prophets bear witness to the righteousness of God" Moses represents the Law, given through him, and Elijah represents the succession of prophets who came later. They both agree and converge in Jesus as the fulfilment and revelation of the perfect righteousness of God, which could not be attained under the Old covenant. Both the Law and the Prophets point to Christ. "Christ is the purpose of the law for everyone who believes" (Romans10:4)
did it happen? " Most writers, however, agree in stating that once a disease, which horribly disfigured the body, broke out over Egypt; that king Bocchoris, seeking a remedy, consulted the oracle of Hammon, and was bidden to cleanse his realm, and to convey into some foreign land this race detested by the gods. The people, who had been collected after diligent search, finding themselves left in a desert, sat for the most part in a stupor of grief, till one of the exiles, Moyses by name, warned them not to look for any relief from God or man, forsaken as they were of both, but to trust to themselves, taking for their heaven-sent leader that man who should first help them to be quit of their present misery. They agreed, and in utter ignorance began to advance at random. Nothing, however, distressed them so much as the scarcity of water, and they had sunk ready to perish in all directions over the plain, when a herd of wild asses was seen to retire from their pasture to a rock shaded by trees. Moyses followed them, and, guided by the appearance of a grassy spot, discovered an abundant spring of water. This furnished relief. After a continuous journey for six days, on the seventh they possessed themselves of a country, from which they expelled the inhabitants, and in which they founded a city and a temple. Moyses, wishing to secure for the future his authority over the nation, gave them a novel form of worship, opposed to all that is practised by other men. Things sacred with us, with them have no sanctity, while they allow what with us is forbidden. In their holy place they have consecrated an image of the animal by whose guidance they found deliverance from their long and thirsty wanderings. They slay the ram, seemingly in derision of Hammon, and they sacrifice the ox, because the Egyptians worship it as Apis. They abstain from swine's flesh, in consideration of what they suffered when they were infected by the leprosy to which this animal is liable. By their frequent fasts they still bear witness to the long hunger of former days, and the Jewish bread, made without leaven, is retained as a memorial of their hurried seizure of corn. We are told that the rest of the seventh day was adopted, because this day brought with it a termination of their toils; after a while the charm of indolence beguilded them into giving up the seventh year also to inaction. But others say that it is an observance in honour of Saturn, either from the primitive elements of their faith having been transmitted from the Idaei, who are said to have shared the flight of that God, and to have founded the race, or from the circumstance that of the seven stars which rule the destinies of men Saturn moves in the highest orbit and with the mightiest power, and that many of the heavenly bodies complete their revolutions and courses in multiples of seven. A great part of Judaea consists of scattered villages. They have also towns. Jersualem is the capital. There stood a temple of immense wealth. First came the city with its fortifications, then the royal palace, then........................ you will never know. this portion contains significance to the Alexamenos graffito
what i understood is that he brought them from sleep, they ascended from the earth Christ gathered them two, then they will be in heaven after this point, Christ

The nations are women. We christians are a Priestley nation. And as a nation, we will never desire the position of Jesus. So we submit to his teachings.
2:50 - Mount Sinai IS Mount Horeb. Same Mountain.
Something you didn't touch on was Satan sinned in Heaven after he fell. Read Job. He falsely accused (lied) about Job being unrighteous. Lying/false accusations are his native tongue (Christ, as recorded in John 8:44). It's easy to see why Satan's characteristics were seen in the two kings. If you're wise, you've seen the same thing in the group known as never trumpers, dems, dnc, whatever you know them by. Today, you can tell who is hell bound. Ecc 10:2, Is 5:20, & Ro 1:22 paint a singular picture that is summed up in John 8:44. The hypocrisy and lies flow from that group. We are not in a political war, but a spiritual one.
my advise is, don't preach, teach Bible verses based on your imagination, spreading fslse truth, entails punishment after life. transfiguration story has no explanation written, Moses, Elijah and Jesus spoke secretively, even the disciples who witnessed the event have no idea, why do you think you have the answer ?
So here is a different reason for the mount of transfiguration. In the previous chapter of Matthew the Savior told Peter "And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." (Matt. 16:19) Those keys were last held by Elijah as he had the sealing power and had used it. The Savior took Peter, James, and John upon the Mount so that they could be visited by Elijah, and he could give them the keys the Savior had promised them. Moses held the keys for the gathering of Israel, and there is not a consensus that he died. He would have to have been taken into heaven as Elijah was for him to show up before the Savior was resurrected. Peter would have to be given those keys as well, to be the leader of the gathering that the Savior made him.
You’ve just explained all the reasons why I believe they are the two witnesses that come before the return of Jesus Christ. The law and the profit. The two olive trees and lamp stands. in Zechariah 4 and Revelation 11.😅
Jesus Loves me yes I know because my Bible tells me so✝️✝️✝️...thank you
Moses= the Law, Elijah= the Prophets
How do you think the disciples identified these people as Moses and Elijah? Did Jesus tell them later? Were they carrying something which identified them?
I never compared the state of a born again person to the state of the pre-fall man. now that is really cool.
Plain and simple, Elijah was still alive Moses was dead, displaying he is God and he is God of both the Living (Elijah) and the Dead (Moses).
My biggest question is, "How did Peter know it was Moses & Elijah? Did they have name tags? How did Peter recognize they were Moses & Elijah? The Two Witnesses, many think, are Moses and Elijah. I believe it’s the Holy Spirit. Zechariah 4, Rev 1:20, Rev 11:4 make clear to me that the Lampstands are the churches. Not the buildings, the SPIRIT IN US! First in Israel, then in the church. The last Beast has risen and killed the Spirit off the planet. How? 1946themovie proves they mistranslated the bible. God is not a bigot, like most people who claim to know Him today. It’s a spiritual book. We must be BORN AGAIN (John 3). Rev 13:11-16 & Rev 18 are America. Two horns like a lamb are right-wing Christians and Catholics who just lifted the Trump abomination. 2Thess2:11 is fulfilled. Turn off the world and turn on Jesus' word. His word is LOVE (John 13-17). It’s the Image of the Beast that brings the false prophets and thieves, destroying truth, and destroying the earth. 666 is man making himself God. He, the Satan, caused ALL to receive his Mark, which is sin. The only way to wash off the Mark of the Beast is to get washed in the blood by faith in Jesus. Faith comes by HEARING THE WORD. Two ways to stop faith; bigotry and idolatry.
I believe that it was for this reason, and that it was the Salvation message! Jesus is the love of our Father! Jn 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Moses represents the law, the instructions on how we are to live in righteousness. Psalm 119:142 KJV - Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth. Elijah represents the prophecies of the Messiah. 1 Kings 17:24 KJV - And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth. The greatest commandment, and not the only one. Luke 10:27 KJV - And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. Matthew 22:40 KJV - On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. How to love our Father and others: 1 John 5:2 KJV - By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. Our Father's love perfected: 1Jn 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. 3¶ And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 He that saith, I know him, and keeps not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoever keeps his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
Could it also be Moses and Elijah are witnessing Jesus divinity? There will be two witnesses prophecy for 1260 days. They had to be witnesses to something.
Only 3 men fasted 40 days and forty nights. Moses stayed on Mount Sinai for 40 days and forty nights to receive the Word from heaven. Elijah walked 40 days and forty nights after eating the Bread from heaven.
Heaven is a celestial North Korea - where you are required to worship a petty jealous god for all eternity.
Leaving aside the false doctrine in this presentation (the Incarnation - I think the person who put this together thinks Jesus is God - not an idea found in the Bible) it was interesting. It is worth noting that God quoted the law, psalms, and prophets when he said "This is my beloved son (Psa. 2 - psalms) in whom I am well pleased (Isa. 42 - prophets), listen to him (Deut. 18 - law). Another thing worth nothing, and I think the main reason why it was Moses and Elijah, is because they went through similar experiences to Jesus. Both Moses and Elijah attempted to bring a people out of idolatry (Egypt, Baal worship) but seemingly failed in their mission (golden calf worship, nothing changed after Carmel) and that was going to happen to Jesus too. He was trying to bring the people out of idolatry (spiritually speaking) but they put him to death. From a human standpoint an abject failure. It would have been hard for Jesus not to try to convince everyone he truly was the Messiah like he was tempted to do in the wilderness. The same 3 temptations occur in the context (see John 6-7 for instance, and Matthew 16). But both Moses and Elijah learned something fundamental on mount Horeb/Sinai. Moses learned that all those miracles (plagues, Red Sea parting, manna etc.) weren't going to convert the people but the power of God's character (the glory revealed on the mountain - Ex. 34:5-7). Elijah learned a similar lesson that great showy miracles weren't going to work like on Carmel. Instead of earthquake, wind, and fire it was going to be the still small voice. Moses and Elijah would have reminded Jesus of these things - you're not going to get anywhere turning stones into bread, jumping off the pinnacle of the temple, or, most significantly, by giving in to the people's wishes for the Messiah to get rid of the Romans (John 6:15). Jesus had just been in Caesarea Philippi - a very Roman city. He asked "who do men say I the son of man am?" alluding to Daniel 7 where the son of man appears in the context of the Roman beast that is now occupying the land. Peter's response would have reminded Jesus of Psalm 2 where it speaks of the Son of God conquering nations. It would have been immensely difficult for Jesus not to give in to the expectations of the people and use the Holy Spirit power he had to do things like Moses and Elijah did. But they were there on the mountain to remind him to keep going with the still small voice and development of godly character seen in Jesus that ultimately converts his followers. You might want to note also that in the context of Moses and Elijah's experiences on the mountain they both fasted for 40 days, just like Jesus. They also went through their own personal exodus (Moses, obviously, and Elijah in 1 Kgs. 19) - and so they spoke of Jesus "departure" (Gk. exodus) he would accomplish at Jerusalem. They had a fellow feeling with him and that's why they were there to strengthen him so that "for the joy set before him he might ensure the cross."
That was a great explanation of the reason for the Transfiguration and the appearance of Moses and Elijah. I enjoyed it.
TVA
how was this possible when Letter J did not officially enter the English Alphabet till a round 1640? the Letter I was use till then, and, the Greek, Hebrew, or Latin Alphabet did not have the Letter J to begin with 🤔🤔
Didn’t Moses and Elijah also both have encounters with God after asking to see his face where storms, earthquakes, fires, etc passed by. Is it possible they were translated through time to this meeting?
I often wonder why grown people get so immersed in this silly fairy tale. It'a nothing new. It's like people seriously discussing details of Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. Fun, but pointless.
Wrong. The Transfiguration was an historical event.
@richardmorgan3938 no eyewitness ever recorded it in fact not one single item in Jesus's life was ever recorded by any eyewitness. Absolutely everything said about him was written many years and decades later bypeople who were not there, do not claim to be eyewitnesses, and spoke a different language. It's kind of like, you know, like making a fictional character do and say anything you want him to do.
Moses was denied entry to The Promised Land during his life. But he stood in Israel during Jesus' transfiguration.
Mt. Horeb IS Mt. Sinai, one and the same.
Also that Jesus was actually showing that He was the one who talked with Moses on mt.Sinai and Elijah on Horeb.. that in that moment He is showing that He stepped out of time and gave them both the revelations they had and was with them simultaneously at that moment!! 😱 SO POWERFUL AND COOL!!!
Wrong. Jesus didn't exist until his birth.
I shared this story with my wife a few days ago, before watching this video. Moses spent 40 days and nights on Mount Sinai talking to the LORD when he received the commandment. Elijah spent 40 days and nights escaping to Mount Horeb (also known as Mount Sinai) and talking to the LORD. I don’t know exactly what that means, but it’s interesting to learn that these “coincidences” occur when reading the Bible.
Jesus was immersed in prayer with his God Jehovah. The vision was only seen by the 3 Apostles. Moses and Elijah are dead and do not exist. Ecclesiastes 9:5,10. Jesus requests the Apostles not to mention the vision they saw until Jesus was resurrected. Matthew 17:9.
Moses represents the Law and Elijah represents the prophets. God spoke in times past through the Law and the Prophets, now the Son of God has come in Grace. The Law and the Prophets disappear and God says - This is my beloved Son, hear ye HIM. All our hopes and future are wrapped up completely in the Lord Jesus Christ. He fulfilled the Law, like none other. He is the fulfilment of the promises and prophecies. To teach Christ plus works is to deny the efficacy of Christ's atoning sacrifice for us on the cross. The Law cannot be kept and ministers death. Grace is the free gift of God, giving Eternal Life in Christ. Christ plus the commandments does NOT work. They are like oil and water, they do not mix.
Short answer, No. Long Answer, also no. Angels are immortal (Luke 20:36) and 'the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Slightly longer answer, it is physically impossible for Angels to sin or "fall from heaven" as it would contradict their very existence and make God a liar. Bible said it, not me.
Moses and Elijah symbolizes a two groups of poeple of jesus second coming Moses :those people who died and resurrected and Elijah those people who did not die coz Jesus has come
How did Peter recognized Moses & Elijah?? There were no picture nor camera 2000 yrs ago.
In the same way he recognised Jesus to be the Christ, the son of the living God
Either they introduced themselves or Jesus told him.
One of the possibilities is that God revealed it to him or that during the conversation he picked it up.🤷🏾♂️
1: (moses and Elijah)Moses symbolises the people of god who is dead and resuuructed by god at his second coming ( moses is resurrected as per god touch him according to jude, and deturmony) Elijah symbolises the people of god who is alive at the time of the rapture. Here moses comes first means dead people ressuructed first then every one will be in the marriage supper of the lamb. 2:( the vanishing of moses and Elijah) God gave moses the law and used Elijah for judgment over Israel(eg:stopping rain).by this moses symbolises law and Elijah symbolises judgment they are standing with Lord Jesus who is grace, here thoses 3 disciples wanted to make 3 tents which represents they wants to stay with law and judgement but moses and Elijah vanished because we are not saved by law or judgment they are given because isreal people wanted that but we got salvation by Jesus(Grace) (ephasiens: 2) I HOPE IT HELPS
Which one of them is God, and which ones are humans? Are you sure that Jesus had to meet two humans?Or two humans had to meet Jesus.
Jesus is not God.
@richardmorgan3938 oh yes I am sorry, you are God
No. God will take away our will so that we don't sin.
We are so fortunate to live in a time where we can all learn. Thanks to all who share these wonderful lessons for us.
Everyone has lived in a time where they could learn.
As it is written " In the last days knowledge will increase " .... This is due to the technology we have today ( internet ) ...... Before internet , we had to go into a library to get information , but today we can have info in the palm of our hands ( phone / tablets )
Always learning and never able to come to the truth. 1946themovie proves they mistranslated the bible. God is not a bigot like most of His supposed followers today. Anti-LGBT, Anti-women, anti-immigrant are ANTI-CHRIST LIES. Leviticus 19:18? That's the one Jesus quoted. Jesus is coming soon for this born-again gay stoner Jew while most Christians are left behind because of bigotry and idolatry. 2Thess2:11 is fulfilled. The church is fallen. Trump is lawless. They believe THE LIE. Fascists for Jesus and Jihad for GOD are all full of demon frogs. Rev 16:13. Turn off the world and turn on Jesus word. His word is LOVE. ❤ John 13-17
Yes SO TRUE
That's not what happened on the Mt. that night. The easiest way to explain what happened is with a question... Who had the honour of the Law in the old testament? Moses...Duh. So how did Jesus get it? Remember he only gave SOME of this honour to Joshua... Numbers 27:20 “And thou shalt put SOME of thine honour upon him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel MAY BE OBEDIENT." Why only SOME? Why not all? Because the rest belonged to Jesus. Deuteronomy 18:15 “The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;” Him ye shall HEAR. Luke 9:35 “And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: HEAR him.” Which is why Satan wanted the body of Moses. So on the night of the Transfiguration Moses Passed the rest of the honour to Jesus. Elijah and the Father were witness to the event. With out this Jesus couldn't die for our sins..SO WE MAYBE OBEDIENT...😮
How would they know that is moses and elijah Did they have floating visible names like in computer games?
Moses has that beard that comes down in two points.
My question to this is. If free will gives humans and angels the possibly of sin, does that not mean that in the afterlife there is a possibility of sin. And if not humans for some reason that surely means after the second coming and new Jerusalem, angels can still sin and go to hell. How is it that sin is gone?
The word sin means missing the mark. if there is no way for us to miss the mark then there is no way to sin with the glorified bodies we have chosen having no desire to.
@CalebHurely-bo6ff but angels are capable of sinning as seen throughout Lucifer and the fallen angels. And they do not get new bodies. So my point is that sin isn't completely gone even after revelation if the bible is telling the truth about angels being capable of sinning
The Jews knew Elijah would return -- and they still save him a seat at the Passover every year.
Have you considered that The Transfiguration of Jesus as recorded in Luke 9:28-36 was starting His inauguration of the Eucharist by speaking with Moses the Lawgiver from Exodus 33:17-23 and Elijah the Prophet from 1 Kings 19:9 at the same time? I suspect the Magi led Him to this. And I think this event reflects of the timeless transcendent nature of His Eternal Sacrifice. This may actually explain why Peter’s words did not make sense - Jesus, Moses and Elijah were standing in the ‘present moment’ of Christ yet separated by hundreds of years in reality, with both Moses and Elijah seeing the “back” of Christ from Exodus 33:17-23 & 1 Kings 19:9. I suspect space-time acts like a magnetic recorder that records 'events' which can be replayed by 'remote viewers'. I suspect young children between 18 months and 6 years are the most sensitive to the "sixth sense". Their spirits are just 'wide open'. You can help your child by taking their fears seriously and encouraging them to talk about their feelings. These “ghosts,” both remembered and unremembered, often manifest themselves as anxious or avoidant adult attachment styles. The Witch of Endor was able to summon the Ghost of Samuel the Seer. And I believe this event was literally, factually true as recorded in the Scriptures. However, at that ancient time in Hebrew History communication with the dead was a terrible taboo. Since the Death and Resurrection of Christ, we are now able to pray with the Saints since Christ now protects us. Jesus inaugurated the "safe zone" when he spoke with Moses & Elijah on the Mount of Transfiguration. If we read the Scriptures, we find that controversial passage found in 1 Samuel 28. This passage created great controversy among the Fathers of the Church. In fact, at least three distinct interpretations can be found. 1. The woman called Samuel forth from the dead (Justin Martyr, Origen, Ambrose, and Augustine). 2. Whether it was Samuel or a demon, it appeared at God’s bidding and not by some magic of the woman (Chrysostom, Theodoret). 3. The entity was a demon who deceived Saul and gave him a false prophecy (Tertullian, Hippolytus, Ephrem the Syrian, Evagrius, Basil, Jerome, Ambrosiaster, & Gregory of Nyssa). I'm not saying anyone is is wrong. But there does not seem to be any single interpretation of this passage. I personally think Justin Martyr was one who was closest to the 12 Apostles. And I trust the Holy Spirit is closest to him. Augustine seems to have the best interpretation regarding God's Grace, too. Peace be with you. ❤ Only Hebraic Christians seam to gleam His transcendence through space-time as recorded in 1 Peter 4:6, "For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh but live according to God in the spirit." Ephesians 4:9-10 further says it this way "Now this, "He ascended"-- what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things."
Who Did Moses and Elijah Represent at the Transfiguration? At the transfiguration, Moses and Elijah appeared alongside Jesus, symbolizing key aspects of his role and mission: Moses Represented the Law - Moses was the great lawgiver of Israel, and his presence highlighted that Jesus was the fulfillment of the Law, which pointed toward the coming Messiah. Elijah Represented the Prophets - Elijah was one of Israel’s greatest prophets, and his appearance emphasized that Jesus was the fulfillment of all the prophecies concerning the Messiah. Their discussion with Jesus about his departure (death and resurrection) reinforced that his sacrificial death was necessary, contrary to Peter’s earlier objections. The vision was a preview of Jesus' future glory in the Kingdom, confirming his divine role and strengthening the apostles' faith.
Correct 😊
I believe another Christophany (aka "pre-incarnate" Christ) was when The Angel of The Lord appeared to Abram in Genesis chapter 18.
