Think my first post was deleted! If you do a search for Horizontal Power Feed for milling machine you will find these made for small machines that fit horizontally so you lose no travel and don't need to cut the drip tray. They also have a drive gear with 3 dogs that replaces the handle so easier to fit.
Just adding the make and part No. for the horizontal unit. ALSGS ALB-310 Horizontal Power Feed
No pressure at all. I understand the "Too many projects and not enough time." thing for sure. Also, I understand the too many people asking for help all the time too. As I get older, it seems like things take longer and go harder. I don't understand that because we should be getting on faster with more experience. But it doesn't seem to work that way, at least not for me. You may be finding it different. Have a really good day and stay busy. 🙂
Thanks Glen. I think I’ll show the lathe suds set up that I did a while ago in a new video as that’ll be quicker and a few people have asked to see the set up. Take care.
What a good idea. Did you make a video on the windscreen coolant pump? That sure does sound interesting. And that idea could be used on other tools as well. Also, it would be nice if you can, to make a video on how you modify the coolant tray on the mill. I think I understand what you are saying but you may have a much better idea than I was thinking. Thanks for what you do.
I'll post the video once I get a chance to build it. Im in the middle of building a wooden boat at the moment so too many projects and not enough time!!
Really good. I've been thinking about doing something very similar.
Go for it! I’ve been the same, in two minds for ages but no regrets at all now it’s done.
How much travel have you lost Toddy ?
I’ll check and let you know
So I had 28 cm of travel before it was fitted and I lost 7cm of travel with it fitted (total now 21cm) so quite a bit. That said, if I need that extra travel for a particular job its dead easy to remove with two machine screws and a roll pin so worth the trade-off.
This is a good video. A shame you needed to cut your chip tray, but I will need to as well. In my case it interferes with the tray too. I was thinking about how to reshape it so that it is still useful for the flood coolant. Thanks for the ideas and instructions.
Hi Glenn, I was going to make an extension for the mounting plate to move the unit further out so that I didn't need to cut the tray but it seemed more agro than it was worth. They do make horizontal units that sit level with the table but they are a lot dearer. It still gives me plenty of travel but time will tell if its a problem. If it does, two machine screws and its removed for that job. Thanks for your comment and best of luck fitting yours.
Hi Glenn. You've given me a thought. I'm going to fabricate a tray/collector that welds down and below the cut out so that the suds flood into the main tray, flow down into the new collector, below the autofeed, and back to the suds collection tank. I did a suds pump/tank for the lathe in the video out of a car windscreen pump and old petrol can and it works really well so thanks for the idea.
@glennfelpel9785 I replied in the main thread but thought I'd mention it here as well. If you search for Horizontal power feed for milling machines you can find these designed for machines like this. They fit horizontally so no need to cut the tray and also have a drive gear with 3 dogs that replaces the handle.
My round mast milling machine x axis power drive came with a power feed that was mounted horizontal on the other end of the table. YOU do not loose 4 inches of movement with that mount. Uses the same drive unit with an added mount and beveled gear.
Hi David, I did look at the horizontal mounted unit, some companies supply them, but I've limited space left and right so opted for the verticle one. Also the cheapest horizontal unit I could fine was more than double the cost. It seems that all solutions are a bit of a compromise and as I dont have a suds system it seemed the easiest solution. Your right that you lose travel but it still gives me enough for the jobs I tackle. Thanks for the comment
Hi Toddy The power feed is nice setup.I have one on my mill but it is made with a steper motor and a steper Controller plus power unit works good from slow to max From Brian west germany
Hi Brian. I've had my mill ages but finally got round to doing it. What a change, no more turning the handle hundreds of times! time will tell if China make good kit
great addition to the mill, what are the measurements of the main unit? ATB Cliff
Hi Cliff. 18cm wide, 13cm front to back and 24cm from the bottom to the centre of the spindle
Cheers Mike.
Looks like you had to cut away the drip tray, couldn't you have turned it upside down, or does that create more trouble?
Unfortunatly I did as the travel was too restricted otherwise. I looked at mounting it upside down but it just felt and looked wrong. I dont have a coolant pump so this seemed the best compromise
Hi. Please see my reply to a comment above, I'm going to fit a suds system now so watch this space. Thanks for your feedback
@@77miketodd sounds good 👍
Nice job Toddy all the best for Christmas and please keep putting new stuff out in the new Year👍
Many thanks. I’ll keep posting, thanks for watching. Happy new year.
Hi Toddy. Nice peace of wood and the bowl that come out off it is looking good from Brian w.germany have a happy Christmas and a good new year 😊😊
Danke Bryan, ich wünsche dir ein frohes Weihnachtsfest
Sorry, I spelt your name wrong. 😢
Hi Toddy nice video of the two typs from Brian w.germany
Thanks Brian. If you use the spray take care, it needs a mask as the vapours are really strong.

I wish your video gets millions of views because you have great content. Try running ads for your channel using some kind of system.
Thanks, I’ll look into it.
How many cans did it take to make the casting? Here in South Oztralia each can would be worth 10 cents at the recycler. I use old pistons, cylinder heads, water pumps, inlet manifolds and such I can find for raw material for casting. I even found a couple of Automatic transmissions on the road verge one time. It was a bit of a struggle fitting them in the back of the car but worth it. 😁😁😁😁😁 Cheers Eric
Hi Eric. No idea how many cans as I put them in the pot with all the other scrap but its hudreds now. Like you I melt down all the old scrap but over here scrap metal is so expensive you dont find it on the roadside like you can!!!! Also we dont get anything for recycling, they fine you if you dont! Thanks for the comment, its great to hear from everyone. I did do a copper recycling video but I think I'll do a beer can one as well as a few of my mates were suprised it was worth doing. Take care mate. Mike (Toddy Tackles)
Interesting video Toddy.
Thanks, I’ve a few videos on casting and mould making to follow.
Great work Mike, being able to knock up what you need is very handy.
You’re right, plus handy turning scrap beer cans into something useful.
Hi. I Like your work and the gate is looking good keep them comeing thank you from Brian w.germany
Many thanks for your kind words Brian.
Thanks Toddy, really useful, will probably watch a few times to take it all in .👍
@@stephensebborn1502 thanks Steve. Great hobby, definitely worth giving it a go.
Nice gates Toddy not sure what you use for cutting steel but I have found the Evolution 335mm metal cutting chop saw a god send.
Hi. I’ve been using a similar one to that but from Clarke. They sell them at Machine Mart. I think it’s very similar to the Evolution. As you say they’re a god send. Thanks for your comment.
Nice work there Toddy, keep em' coming, Atb, Cliff
Thanks Cliff. Back to wood turning next week 👍
Hi Toddy. Looks nice I like your work on the new gate 100% better than the other one. From Brian west germany
Thanks Brian. It was a really enjoyable project, I just need to improve my welding to save time with the grinder 😀. Thanks for your comments
Good video Toddy I have an old Coronet wood turning lathe that I fitted a 2hp 3phase motor and vfd on,the motor and vfd came from ebay both used and are still working fine 16yrs later.Another hoby is metal work and that lathe is a Drummond over a hundred years old now but still works well and has been in the family now for 60 years. Looking forward to Part 2.
We've similar hobbies as I've an old Boxford with a VFD and 3 phase motor! Thanks for the feedback and I'd love to see some of the things you've made on your lathes. Toddy
Very sad this but I have the same mower but with the briggs and stratton motor :)
@@router5840 both good motors
Nice one Mike, lovely ole' lathe that, put a vfd on it, you won't regret it! All the best, Cliff
Thanks Cliff. Dont VFD's only work with three phase motors though? If so I'd have to change the motor as well which would be a bit of a pain and cost. I'll look into it though as it's the only downside of the lathe. Thanks for watching and the comment
Good video that Toddy.
Thanks 👍
Would very much like to see the bike you are restoring 👍
Hi Jamie. I hadn’t thought about that. Good idea, I’ll put something out soon. It’s a BSA B31 and it’s been slow but steady progress.
Plus I’m doing up a Yamaha RD 250 so I’ll do that as well
I've used this product for years, Tools, Small motors, and what I found to be the best method for dipping is to use an up and down motion of about 1/4 to 1/8 inch while going in and coming out, this produces a thicker and more even coat across the surface.
Great, thanks for the help, I’ll give that a go. I’ve only been using it for a couple of months but think it’s really good. Going to try the spray can but not sure it’ll be very thick. Thanks for the feedback, it’s much appreciated
interesting stuff Mike, never seen it before. All the best, Cliff
Thanks Cliff, deffinitely worth a try, stops them rusting as well.
Nice one Mike, how much was it?
No idea unfortunatly as it was a birthday present. I'll see if I can get it out of her but shes a bit old fashioned with that sort of thing
Apparently about £150 for the cleaner and £35 for the carb cleaning fluid.
Very interesting 😊
Thanks, loads to follow 😊
Gone are the days when you could just bend the metal ball arm down 🙂 good old none recyclable plastic.
Tell me about it, still at £6 for a complete replacement I’m not grumbling. That’s the throw away world now. 😢
Hi Toddy I followed Cliffs link interesting video.
Thanks mate, glad you found it interesting, let me know if you've any topics that you want covered
Edgy video Mike!😂
Chisles, plane blades and lathe bit sharpening next !!!!
Great setup you’ve got!
Thanks
