Up the lions
Hey Mason, I’m in American born and raised in Philadelphia, and have become a huge Collingwood fan. Could you please do an explanation for us on penalties and tackles when referees decide possession or a throw in or toss up. Thanks!
yeah love hearing a key forward talk about defense good on him lol
... now to add Jamie Elliott's on Anzacc Day 24
Do the teams have their own stadiums and have to travel to each others home territory for games?
Yep that’s right mate. However some teams also share stadiums too. For example the West Australian -based AFL teams; the West Coast Eagles and the Fremantle Dockers, both share Optus Stadium. And the South Australian teams; the Adelaide Crows and the Port Adelaide Power, share Adelaide Oval.
@thebirdman8223 thanks for the answer. I randomly came across one of these videos and found myself fascinated by it. Its like all the sports i love combined into one big erratic event! I really want to get into it more and pick a team i like. Its super fun!
You're welcome@@xxthesarcasm, Australian Rules Football can seem like a complicated game at first, but once you've watched a few games it will start to make a bit of sense. If you like, there is a great video that explains the rules of Australian Rules Football. I recommend it if you want a brief crash course in how the game is played. This channel also goes over other sports around the world. ruclips.net/video/Mnv32s8jPz0/видео.html&pp=ygUQd2hhdCBpcyBhZmwgbnluaA%3D%3D Australian Rules Football was heavilly influenced by both Gaelic Football (which is based in Ireland - interestingly a lot of Australians are descendants of from convicts from Ireland, as well as convicts of other European countries that first arrived here with the First Fleet in 1788). There is ongoing debate over whether Australian Rules Football was influenced by an Indigenous Australian game called Marngrook. Overall though Australian Rules Football (or footy as most people refer to it) is very popular around the country (except for New South Wales and Queensland where Rugby League is generally the preferred sport) and Mason is right when he says that footy fans are very passionate and tribal with their support of their teams. I'm sorry this is such a long-winded comment but hopefully you, and everyone else watching this vid who doesn't know the sport, found this helpful in getting more of an understanding it. :)
Love what you're doing Coxy! But how could you not have a clip of Heath Shaw's sneak up smother on Nick Reiwoldt in the 2010 Grand Final? That's one for the history books. Keep doing what you do on and off the field brother, you're a legend!
What a brilliant idea for you to start this channel! Love the short form videos as well which focus on a particular aspect of the game. Great stuff Coxie. Keep making these, especially for all those in the US that we need to get interested in the greatest game on the planet!
Don't forget the man on the mark rule has changed. You can't move around anymore like you could in the past.
you're great for our game mason and i love your work. having said that i hope the pies lose the grand final after the siren
Your gunna be disappointed. Go PIES
Not this time! Now Mason knows how it feels when players lead the Magpie army and together "the Premiership’s a cakewalk."
Great hook, Mason. One criticism: Australian football does not equal AFL. One is a sport and the other is a competition. The former began in 1858 (or codified in 1859), the latter, in 1897.
Love this channel specifically made for outsiders to the sport! Really hope it attracts more fans to the sport ❤
This is great! As an aussie who lost his beloved team - which was one of the oldest teams in the sporting world - all in the name of 'Game expansion'.. I wish the AFL would stop pussy footing around and hurry up and put the big $ behind creating a product in the US.. We all know they would succeed but sadly lack the b*lls to go ahead and actually do it.
Hey Mason!!, love that you are doing the channel! I’m a massive footy head that covers the men’s and women’s comp and would love to have a chat about your career if you would be keen!! Cheers mate!
Great stuff Mason. Loving this.
VFL was founded in 1897 but 1877 was in inaugural year of the first football competition the VFA. So I'd say the games been around a little longer than 126 years. Closer to 150 is more on the money.
First game in 1858 I think(?)
Yeah Mason Is mixing up the sport with the league a bit but pretty sure he's meaning the League itself, so the the league is in it's 127th season. Australian Football the sport is in it's 165th year.
@@shmick6079 Yep 1858, codified 1859. Melbourne Demons 1858 and Geelong Cats 1859 are the 2 oldest professional football (of any code) teams in the world.
Create an "AFL fundamentals" play list and order the videos! Would help total freshies to click the play list and watch all basics in order
1 minute videos.... 😒
Around for 123 years? I thought about 150?
He’s talking the league specifically
Love this @Mason! Local team in North Texas repping DFW @ntxdevils! We’re growing the sport over here in the US and pumped for a future Tasmanian AFL team!
Mason would love to hear you discuss why players seem to just randomly shove and push each other throughout the game (especially before the first center bounce).
Another great thing about AFL is that it mostly takes place during the NFL and college football offseasons. Year-round football? Absolutely!
Yay
Love this sharing our sport to the world
