I was Born in Chicago so whenever I'm home I try to get by there to see this World Famous Aquarium. I've been in this Hobby for 52 Years. So when I Get to the Shedd Aquarium it's Like Coming for Me.

I have been to many aquariums in my 70+ years. I’ve been to the Shedd a couple of times. And I have to say it is the best public aquarium I have ever seen. I hope to get there again before I get too old to get around. I was there shortly after they got their first pair of Beluga whales. I made a special trip up there just to see them. I could spend a week at the aquarium and the museums right in a few block area there. Glad you had a great time there!

I own 200 of these, feed regularly throughout the day, being so active they burn off energy fast and become hungry very quickly, mine are fed fish scales, mealworm flakes(crushed up dried mealworm to a flake consistency), a few chunks of frozen blood worm, amongst other random natural food sources.. Incredibly predatory, while there is a puffer in with these guys, the larger the shoal the more confident they are. I feed a defrosted roach once daily and as for not having teeth, they get through a 5-6 inch roach like a swarm of piranha. I will be adding another 100 to my current shoal. I have seen first hand how quickly they will eat another shoal member, so maintaining a good food regime is paramount in keeping the numbers up. My favourite fish, hence investing in lots of them, going in a 12ft to possibly bigger as they grow in size. While many will state they will only attain 3-4 inches, 6 to 7 inches is possible with that right amount of space, good diet etc. A fantastic fish. In smaller groups, more timid, in larger numbers, watch your fingers around adults. Awesome species of tetra!!!

I'm 37 now, and haven't been to Shedd in about a dozen years or so, but listening to your reactions reminded me of the last time I was there. Lots of "Wow! Look at the size of ___! Wow!" love it!

Best aquarium in the midwest hands down. Most interactive and also most educational for schools and large groups to make reservations for the best purpose for the well being and future of all the animals. I am from Chicago and this also the Field Museum, but do not forget the science and industry museum also buy the pass for all three but each is a full day trip there is so much to see and learn.

Recent studies say the beluga can live 70 years. Just watch a show on them earlier

Growing up my local Zoo had a beluga whale, which is probably where I grew to love whales in general, My zoo won't keep whales anymore but it is so fun to be able to see them. The place has some monster tanks!

small correction: Shedd doesn't have bottlenose dolphins, what they have are the rarer Pacific White-Sided Dolphin. Shedd Aquarium and SeaWorld: San Antonio are the only aquariums in the West that keep pacific white-sided dolphin, which is a shame as they are such an amazing species.

For the plecos: L273 titanic Correct, 2x L25 scarlet cactus Acanthicus adonis, and this one actually does often get referred to as the world's largest pleco species growing up to almost over 3ft long. Great video too! Would love to visit there if it wasn't for me living in northern europe

If you ever get a chance to see the Dallas World Aquarium, I think their Amazonian section may just top this one for you. They have some truly enormous Arapaima too.
